Review from Samuel K.
This hotel is classy and clean and convenient. The price per room here is HIGH but at the same time you get extraordinary service. so you get what you pay for.
Spent our anniversary here and we had a good time. if you're visiting from out of town this is a great location hotel as it's right across from the galleria mall.
we stayed in a junior suite and it was so nice. the bed was so comfy and room was so vast.
everything is recently renovated. not even marriott.com's website has up to date pictures. pretty modern on the inside.
it won't and shouldn't be disappointing at the price you pay. -

Best hotel in the Houston area. I have spent over 20+ nights in this JW and it is excellent.
First off, the location could not be better. You are right across the street from the Galleria, so if you get bored at night...just take a stroll across the street (not to mention, the Galleria has an Apple store--connect with your inner geek!).
Secondly, the gym is AWESOME and they have a racquetball court (seriously, do you know many hotels with a racquetball court?). They have sufficient cardio equipment, a wide range of free weights, smith machine, etc. They have an outdoor pool and hot tub on the same level as the gym (I want to say the 6th or 7th floor, so you can look out over Houston). They also provide towels soaked in ice water, which is is awesome when you are burning up after throwing down some miles on the treadmill.
The rooms are super plush, with comfortable beds, HDTV, LCD TVs, etc. This place has all the amenities. The only downside is having to pay for parking (parking garage underneath the hotel-however, valet is available for those safety conscious females traveling solo) and internet. Overall, an excellent hotel to satisfy your every need! -

If you're a fan of JW Marriott hotels, you'll probably find that this one is alarmingly close to perfection.
While it's true that the hotel's urban location isn't nearly as exotic as most JWs, this one excels in little touches on a grand scale. It's next door to The Galleria, Houston's behemoth shopping mall, and features surprising amenities like an indoor basketball court.
The hotel was originally built in the mid-'80s, but you would never know it, save for a few pieces of the interior. The door numbers, for example, are clearly the originals, and look strangely out of place since the rest of the building has been renovated. Little hints of that decade's excess, such as bathroom telephones that prompt thoughts which could lead you to wash your hands like a surgeon, have also survived and are sprinkled throughout the property.
Overall, the rooms are predictably superb, just as one would expect from this brand. The beds are very comfortable, flat screen TVs are present in every room (with connections for your laptop), and the fixtures are suitable for a high-end residence. Some rooms overlook the Westheimer strip, tempting you to spend time gazing down on the headlights and taillights of passing cars. Provided that The Galleria is closed, of course.
Like most high-rise hotels, parking is underground, and you're encouraged to valet. Elevators connect the parking garage to the lobby; from there, you must walk across to another set of elevators in order to access the guest room levels. Inconvenient? Maybe, but it does give the property a more secure feel.
Meanwhile, the hotel's staff is extremely professional. Having stayed here on many occasions, I can't recall ever running into a single hitch. Even the room service food, for once, is worth the premium.
Ridiculously good deals can be found here on weekends, especially if you're a member of the rewards program. Despite being off the beaten path and outside of downtown Houston, the experience provided by this hotel is definitely worth an extra bit of commute. -

Fab hotel with grandeur style and great service. Rooms are plush and nicely decorated. The breakfast buffet for Platinum members made the difference from a good experience to a great experience; free hot and cold breakfast with coffee made this my one stop shop every morning. Not to mention the location is superb across from the galleria, with lots of choices to take up your time and hurt your wallet. Great value for the money as well.

Love the beds! Love the fluffy (IT'S SO FLUFFY~!~!~!) towels.
Some rooms can have a weird sound from the air vents which can get annoying if you have difficulty falling asleep.
At least on this trip, slept like a baby.
Checked in super late (~ midnight) and was upgraded to a 2-story suite on the top floor. I have no clue why I would need 3-showers, 8-person dining table, 2-studies, and 3 TVs but if I ever wanted to try to pull off the Hang Over, Houston-style........Hrmm...................1 Previous Review: Show all »

Fantastic location! It is literally across the street from Galleria mall. It would probably take you 2 minutes to talk there.
The room was very spacious and the bed was super comfy. It felt like I was sleeping in a California King and not just a regular King. The bathroom looked like it was newly renovated and they had a huge flat screen TV in the room. I think it is an older hotel, so you could tell the carpet was pretty dingy and the decor was sort of outdated. But those were such small details I really didn't mind it.
Room service was the best part. I ordered the cheeseburger and chocolate cake and it was better than food that I've had at some restaurants. Absolutely delicious! 5 stars for the food.
Parking was really convenient. $17 a night and they do something to the room key card so you can use that to swipe yourself into the garage. -
Review from Steve S.
We were in Houston with friends who were playing in a football tournament so we scored the tournament rate of $109/night but I saw that normally the JW Marriott goes for $289 during the week. But gotta be honest, for being Marriott's "highest end" division, I would expect a much nicer hotel. I've seen regular Marriott's that are much better. And high end divisions like Conrad do a much better job than this particular JW Marriott.
The hotel is not bad. Lobby is nice but the elevators are a bit cut up between the parking garage and main elevators. Rooms are arranged differently with the bathroom being a bit more open than the standard setup. And the king size bed in our room faced the window. Our bed was okay but seemed to have a slight downward angle. Not sure why. One thing I found weird was the door to the adjoining room had no doorknob. Just had a rough, exposed metal ring where the doorknob should have been. Small thing I know but I would think a hotel on this level wouldn't overlook even the smallest details. And the $12.95/day WiFi charge seems a bit high to me. Fitness center is actually very good. Probably one of the better ones I have seen. And with the hotel being right across from the gigantic Galleria mall so you've got tons of restaurants and other stuff to do. Staff is good but I usually don't have a huge need for hotel staff.
It's not a bad hotel at all. It's just that I was expecting more. Hilton does a good job of establishing its Conrad division as the "premier" level. This hotel did not differentiate enough from a regular Marriott. -

Oooh, I get a first to review in Houston? Exciting!
This is my new home away from home, and I could not be happier about it. Well I could be, and I will be, when they finish building the second bar and restaurant! But I digress.
Service is wonderful, the concierge lounge is great, and the rooms are large, clean, and new. Love the LG flat screens, and the comfy towels (thank you for extra plush). My coworkers used to stay at the Westin Oaks and have been abandoning it in favor of the JW Marriott! -

Modern, contemporary hotel, with lots of bright bold colors...
This hotel is located across the street from The Galleria Mall in Houston. It is a nice short walk to the hotel and really if you get tired you can always grab a cab back to the hotel.
Government rates are available, so make sure to ask for these rates if you have an appropriate ID! The room was clean and well maintained, had a view of The Galleria, the bed was comfortable and had lots of pillows, had two comfortable robes, receptionist were very friendly and helpful. Check out was a breeze, just called the operator told them we were checking out, and that was it.
Self-parking ($15 with in/out privilege) is available in the building or you can valet park ($27). Take note that there is an Upper Parking (UP) and Lower Parking (LP), we did not realize this, and went walking around the parking lot for our car. Make sure to take note of where you are parked. You can avoid walking around the lot, looking like lost souls! In the elevator take note that UP and LP designates the parking lot! Duh!
Highly recommended places to stay at a great rate! -

This is my favorite place to stay while in Houston. Not only is it in the Galleria area, but the stay has always been top-notch. The beds! The rooms! The dining! The view! The pool! The exercise room! The location!
Did I get you excited? If not, then you just have to see for yourself. You will not be disappointed.
By the way, we get concierge lounge service and we've always been pleased with the access to the lounge, computer, snacks, drinks, and magazines. They've always treated us like family and when we go back, I know it will still be the same.Listed in: Road Trip Places

The bed is super comfortable and the room is nice. My coworkers are raving about the pool. The food in the restaurant isn't bad.
But the shower has no water pressure and internet isn't included in the price. Is wifi really that expensive, Marriott? -

A big comfy bed, excellent service, helpful staff and a reliable internet connection is what a traveller like me needs. I slept so good in my king sized bed with eight big fluffy pillows. It is a bit pricey, but it is worth every penny that you get in service, cleanliness, and quiet. I wish I was staying there tonight. The big plus is this hotel is located in the Galleria area of Houston, so there are a ton of great restaurants, such a Morton's Steakhouse. What I like is the Walgreen's across the street, as I forgot to pack toothpaste but I was able to go somewhere and get a tube at a decent price.
I love Marriott Hotels! -

Whohooo, my home of 48 hours... great location (next to the Galleria which is a huge mall), good rooms, and conference rooms (where I lived most of my stay while in Houston)
I love the Marriott bed, and am purchasing one for my own home...
Great lobby, great service. No issues. -

One of the best hotels in the country. I've stayed at dozens of hotels all over, and this hotel has everything you need. The beds are very comfortable, and the rooms are spacious. This JW has the best fitness center of any hotel that I've frequented which makes staying fit on the road much easier. There is plenty of underground parking, and several dining and shopping options in the area.

My family ran a 5 star resort so I am very picky when it comes to reviews of hotels. That said, I got a room here on Hotwire (love it!) and paid about 80 bucks a night. The hotel is so un Marriott like it is a breath of fresh air. The pool and gym is great (unlike Hotel Derek) and the aromatherapy in the lobby is amazing. Cold, infused water in pitchers await the weary guest. The rooms are great, location is excellent and I would highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a moderately priced room in the Galleria area. Try Hotwire! I also like the Intercontinental in the same area.

This is one very comfortable and classy Marriott hotel. Great service, as well as nicely appointed and spacious rooms It's across the street from the Galleria and offers free parking next to the Walgreens just down Westheimer. I have stayed here and attended meetings both within the hotel and separate convention building. It's always been a pleasure and a treat, especially when your out of town and away from your family.

The place is clean and well maintained. My cousins stayed here. The rooms were great too. Also, its right in the middle of the galleria. SO, huge number of eating / shopping options. Parking is kind of a pain if you are not staying here. But, you can park in the galleria or one of the strip centers close by and walk over.

Pretty good hotel! Had great amenities! You really cant complain much since the rooms were clean! Pool and basketball court were good. Glad this hotel is close to alot of places downtown as well. Right across the Galleria which is convenient. One thing that I wish they would have had is free parking if you stay as a guest but cant complain about that since most places do that.

So only one restaurant is available to guests and it is the downstairs lobby bar. I thought it was impossible to have a bad steak in Houston - well I was proved wrong. The bar was busy with business men having drinks and as a result the service was lousey. I had to fetch my meal from the counter as the waitress wsa too busy to realise that my meal was ready. I waited 45 minutes for the meal to arrive and whne it did it was unedible. $29 for a 5 cm steak which was overdone not as I ordered. The chips were not bad.

I was so impressed with this hotel. The location is a given... this is why we stayed here. Everything else was a surprise. The service was incredible. The workout facility was amazing... with a hot tub and a pool. It was cleaner than my regular gym and the attendant was so helpful. They even have basketball and raquetball. We played basketball and had a blast.
Our room was very comfortable, with the down comforter and many pillows. Our third night, we cancelled reservations and stayed in the room, ordered room service (we loved it) and ordered a movie. We will definitely be back. The value was amazing.
