Great price, location and utterly gorgeous attention to detail.

My boyfriend and I wanted a quick weekend getaway to just relax and take it slow.  That's exactly what we got and it was magical.

We stayed in the Organic Green Tea Room and both loved the space.  It was like being in our own little tree house cabin.  I loved the window seat that allowed my early bird self to lounge and stare out across the valley, bird watch, or read a book.

Across the meadow were sheep which made the view idyllic.  I'm also pretty sure I saw a Bald Eagle swoop out of the tree right in front of the window one morning.  We both agreed that just hanging out in the room would be awesome.  Who needed anything else?

The bathroom was beautiful and that's where you really saw the loving attention to detail up close.  The tiling was tight and obviously done specifically for this location and by someone who has mad skills.

The leveled yard feels very private even though you're right off a main drag and I'd love to come back in the summer and have a bonfire.  The frogs were cacophonous standing outside in the yard at night, which I'd never experienced being a city girl and all.  It was an extraordinary experience, but if you're worried about the noise, just know that once in the house, you could only hear them faintly.

A couple of baby deer and their mama came one evening and dozed in the shelter of a big tree at the side of the house.  That's how peaceful this location is.  And it really is only a couple of miles from the ferry dock, but I wouldn't walk it.  If you had a bike, it'd probably be fine.

The decorating style reminded me of my own style--COLOR!  Color everywhere and lots of fun cultural relics, masks, nick-knacks to ogle.

    We'll be back!

There is a reason this place is reviewed so highly; it is amazing and very affordable.

I stayed here for two nights in the Mandala room. This room has a queen bed and shares a full bathroom with another room. Our room was incredibly clean, comfortable, beautifully decorated (as was the entire house), and had its own little deck with a table and chairs. It was absolutely perfect in every way.

I love that the house had a shared kitchen. We weren't too successful at finding affordable, good  food in Friday Harbor so it allowed us to prepare a few meals on our own. Plus, it was a great space to socialize with the other guests who were absolutely delightful.

The rest of the common space is very colorful and inviting as were the grounds of the property. There were hammocks in the back yard, and there were sheep on the large farm next door that you could very quietly hear at night. It was great, but we just weren't there enough to take full advantage of lazing about outside. Maybe next time.

My one and only complaint is that there isn't a common half bath in the house. We just arrived at the guest house as someone entered our shared bath to shower. It would have been very nice to have a place to freshen up, but nothing was available. That doesn't knock the review down for me because this inn is incredible; I can't imagine staying anywhere else in Friday Harbor!

This place is FANTASTIC.  I had a great feeling about it after reading all the reviews and viewing the website, but it wasn't until we arrived that I truly understood what all the hype was about - the Juniper Lane Guest House is amazing.

It is beautiful, it is peaceful, and it has a great energy about it.  From the moment we arrived, I just felt relaxed and happy.

It isn't too far out of town and is an easy find as it is right along Beaverton Valley Road.  The property is great and has absolutely gorgeous views of the San Juan hills.

We stayed in the Regal Royale room upstairs and it was so so lovely.  The decor is exotic in a unique and laid-back way.  The bed was amazing - super comfortable and some of the softest sheets I have ever slept on.  It was almost a bummer getting home and sleeping in my own bed because my sheets do not compare to the ones here!  There is a standing shower and claw-foot tub in the bathroom.

There are areas that we did not use, but are of great advantage to guests.  There is the shared kitchen, filled with free coffee and tea, as well as use of the refrigerator, stove, etc.  If you buy fresh seafood in town and want to make dinner, you can bring it back here and easily cook it up.  There is the backyard with its fire pit and tables, where you can sit out and have a cup of coffee while enjoying the views.  They even have hammocks out there, which we tested out after a long day of bike riding.  The downstairs common area with couches and chairs is filled with all sorts of interesting books and CDs.  The entire property is a unique space and really designed to give the guests a warm and welcomed feeling.

Rates are extremely reasonable considering it was the summer peak season.  We paid $135 per night, which seemed like a an absolute steal - especially compared to some of the prices of actual hotels on the island.  Other rooms have lower rates - due to their having shared baths - or slightly higher rates (only if you have higher occupancy than two people).  There is also a cabin available for rent that easily holds a family.

There was only one small thing that really bugged me and that was the lack of water pressure in the shower in the bathroom.  I am one of those people that likes a strong water flow and this shower head did not do the trick.  This probably wouldn't bug most people, but it was my one tiny pet peeve about this place.  Everything else was perfection.

Overall, we had a really great experience staying here.  It was the perfect location and perfect environment for us to really sit back, relax, and enjoy our stay on the island.  I would stay here again, no doubt about it.

I'll concur with the other reviews. While I may not have gotten the same transcendant amazingness vibe expressed by other reviews, this place is definitely top in its class. Just realize what class it is. If you're looking to stay at the "nicest place" on the island with the most amenities, best view, best breakfast, etc., this is not the place, nor would it claim to be. If you want a unique, cozy, friendly place that is close to town where you will likely meet some interesting people, this is definitely the place. Every room has a private bathroom, the decorations are very tasteful and unique, and the owner is very friendly. Finally, it is an excellent value.

I can't even tell you how fantastic this place is. It's magical. It is beautiful, quirky in the best way, peaceful, and- not to sound all new-agey, but- has a really great energy about it. I have met some wonderful people there over the years- I've stayed a number of times, and have great memories from each time. I've even developed friendships with fellow guests that I've continued over the years. Like I said before, I really can't tell you how absolutely wonderful the Juniper Lane Guest House is, you'll just have to go find out for yourself. So...

Go- go right now. Or at least drop what you're doing and make a reservation right now and go soon. You will not regret it, you will only regret that it's taken you so long to get there.

Wow!  My sweetie and I stayed here last weekend.  We wanted to cycle on San Juan and Lopez and not spend too much dinero.  The beautifully equipped kitchen allowed us to cook our own meals.  We ate out back overlooking a pastoral scene, relaxed in the peaceful little Mandala Room (which has a great bed, by the way) and enjoyed a full moon and glass of wine on our private deck.  Michael has stayed at Juniper Lane before and I will definitely be back.  Juniper herself is great - friendly, warm, informative. . .  she has created a welcoming, homey and eclectic environment with lots of sweet touches.   We just loved our stay!!

O WOW let me tell you...this place was amazing!! We missed the ferry to Orcas Island and so had to stay in Friday Harbor and one of the guys working at the ferry told me about this place. At first, I was a little apprehensive because it is a little bit "out of the city", but I am so glad we went. One of the owners was there and treated us with such hospitality, I immidiately felt right at home. My husband and I showered and had planned to go out, but we layed down around 7:30pm and were out until about 7am the next day. I have not slept that well in a VERY long time. It was great...loved the place...clean...reasonably priced....what more can I say?

This wonderful home turned guest house caters to whatever kind of traveler you may be. The owner herself appears to be well traveled, so she definitely knows how to accommodate a wide range of folks from backpackers to honeymooners. Heck, if you have a special event on the island coming up you can rent the whole place for a reasonable price (it includes a separate cabin that sleeps 4-6 people I believe).
It's colorful, eco-friendly, a bit exotic (but tastefully so), homey, and it's centrally located on the island only a few minutes away from Friday Harbor.  The owner is a sweetheart as well, be prepared to fall in love with Juniper Lane Guest House.  You won't want to leave!

Wow.  We stayed in the cabin and it was an amazing experience!  As others have said, the whole property is beautiful and peaceful, in a perfect location, and just has a good "vibe."  The cabin itself is cozy, rustic yet modern, and full of special little details.  The kitchen alone makes it worth the affordable off-season rate of $150 per night (we stayed three nights; the rate is slightly higher if you stay only two nights)--it's large, with lots of counter space and well-stocked with all the dishes and cooking implements we needed to prepare our meals.  It's a major plus to have a kitchen when staying in the San Juans as the dining options are sparse, mediocre and VERY expensive.  True, groceries are pricey on the island too, but it's still cheaper than eating out, as well as healthier and of better quality.  We brought what we could from "the mainland" and supplemented with perishables from the market in town.

The cabin also has two bedrooms, a huge deck, numerous windows, several good places to curl up with a book, and a TV/DVD player and Dish network.

Finally, the hostess, Juniper, is helpful and friendly, while still respecting her guests' privacy.

All in all, this is a great find and we will definitely be coming back!

This place is beautiful and is a warm friendly space that you will never want to leave. It is gorgeously decorated, immaculately clean and feels very homey. It has a nice large kitchen and a good shared space with loads of CDs and books to peruse.

The only things that are somewhat bothersome is that the place is definitely not sound proof. You can hear everything in the rooms near and above yours and the doors are pretty creaky and slam shut most of the time. The curtains are pretty thin in the mandala room and shine light through anytime a car passes on the road. Your experience will definitely depend on the other guests staying there as you have a lot of interaction with them especially if you are in one of the downstairs rooms (mandala and the backpacker rooms). We had the unfortunate experience of some folks that plopped themselves in from of the TV in the shared space for 5 hours straight at night. It would be better if the common space didn't have a TV but was instead a space to congregate to read, listen to music and talk with other guests.

I love the place, but feel people should know some of it's quirks!

The Juniper Lane Guest House is an absolutely gorgeous home with several beautiful guest rooms.  I stayed in the room upstairs with a private bathroom including a clawfoot tub plus a separate shower.  I **LOVED** it.  The house also boasts a cozy living area where guests can read or relax with a glass of wine, plus a spacious, eat-in kitchen with all the amenities there for you should you choose to save a little cash and make breakfast/dinner in. There is also a charming outdoor patio/garden area where one can yet again relax with a glass of wine and take in the incredible views.  The home itself was clearly designed and built with a lot of imagination and love.  The woodwork
and finishes are of such high quality, and the style and paint choices are whimsical yet elegant.  In addition, the location of the house is perfect.  It's just outside the island's main village, but within easy walking distance to all the boutiques and restaurants.  I honestly think anyone planning trip to San Juan Island should seek out this guest house! It will make your trip that much better!!!

We had a wonderful stay at Juniper Lane! We did not stay in the Guest House itself, but in the beautiful, cozy cabin next door that Juniper Lane also manages. The view from the porch is an amazing one of pasture and San Juan's rolling hills! We loved the zen design of both the Guest House and the cabin, and were impressed by how clean and comfortable it was, as well as our hostess' warm and welcoming (yet not intrusive) manner. We will most definitely be back!

Highly recommended. Our room and shared bathroom were impeccably clean and very comfortable. There is wifi and satellite TV, but it is a place where you want to unplug and relax with a good book, and/or some wine and s'mores. There is a full kitchen available for guests, and the backyard has cedar reclining chairs and a fire pit. When we stayed there for four nights, there was a couple celebrating their 25th anniversary, a 30-year old woman traveling alone, a group of five female friends in their 50s, a mother and daughter, and another young couple. Everyone we talked to thought the place was perfect. It is one of the more affordable places on San Juan Island. One big thing: this is a mile from Friday Harbor, so make sure you have a car, bikes, or don't mind walking. We walked, and it was fine.

Stayed here recently and fell a bit in love with it. My brother & I were traveling around Washington staying in a different place each night, this place was by far my favorite and I'm already looking for excuses to go back! The house is lovely and filled with quirky & interesting decorations, with a communal living room stocked with music & books and a spacious kitchen  for anyone who wants to cook in. We couldn't have been more comfortable or happy with the place, had to tear ourselves away from the hammocks overlooking grazing sheep in order to go explore the rest of the island. loved the fire pit, all it took was a phone call & the owner had a wheelbarrow of wood & kindling left for us to use. Can't wait to go back!
