Peter is beyond awesome!! Jump Start Coffee has become a staple for my sisters and I. In fact, it is our favorite place. Peter always makes us feel so welcome and at home and makes the best dang iced coffee in this whole 7x7 city. We have a lot of food allergies (gluten free, dairy free, vegetarians, allergies to raw onions) and Peter accommodates all of us - he recently made us the most incredible lettuce wraps and now we crave them! I also highly recommend their falafel, hummus, dolmas, potato salad, baklava and Jordanian Way coffee...6 stars!!!!!!!

The girl who cuts my hair recommended this place since its right by her "barber shop."
it's the best Meatball sandwich I've ever had or will ever have. I didn't even care about meatball subs until I had this one. Now I'm a junkie.
Peter is probably the friendliest guy I've met in SF. He has single handily restored my belief that people on the west coast aren't all self-absorbed assholes. Most of you are though, so don't sweat it.
Coffee, desserts, and dolmas are all very good. Love sitting in the grocery to eat my lunch. Place rocks. -

Great neighborhood place with a wide variety of deli options (sandwiches, bagels, falafel, etc). The owner, Peter, is super friendly.

If it wasn't for Jumpstart my husband and I would probably starve to death, and Peter makes a mean bagel sandwich. He's also one of the nicest guys I know. Jumpstart is practically an extension of my own home-and Peter makes all of his customers feel that way. Now, however, he's probably going to give me a hard time for being all mushy about him.

I love this place! Tasty sandwiches, good coffee and convenient for groceries.
I don't come here as much as I used to. I used to come every morning for coffee though. In and out the door. Always fresh, and a variety of drip to choose from.
And yes - soooo nice. I always feel really comfortable and welcomed when I come into this shop. -

This place reminds me of why it's important to support small local places. The owners are nice as can be and always welcome me with a warm smile. They seem to really love what they do and it shows. They stock a good selection of groceries and deli items, and their coffee is always delicious. It feels like a place you'd find in NY...

Ditto everyone. I mean, come on, how NICE are they? I don't really grocery shop, so I haven't ever bought much here, but whenever I need something random like ginger or paper plates, they seem to have it!
The other day, I stole some a-hole's parking spot right across the street from Jump Start, and I seriously thought he was going to come back to murder me and/or key my car. The guy who works at Jump Start saw the whole thing go down, and he had his friend walk me home! What a gentleman. -

Peter is my saviour and friend. He took me in as a shoeless (albeit socked, I didn't travel far) under-clothed heathen and fed me lovely avocado bagel sandwiches and I hear he makes a mean falafel.
Seriously good man. The other day we went in and talked about how "the people from 'YALP' called him and are coming in to give him more stickers and stuff on thursday". I plan to go in so it looks like he has ++cute clientele.
This is loyalty.

I don't drink coffee, but I do appreciate a good corner store. I would love to have a place like this on my corner! I only picked up a couple items while I was in the neighborhood, but I noticed lots of goodies. They have several different types of Double Rainbow Soy Ice Cream for you vegans out there (dulce de leche, blueberry, white chocolate/raspberry), plenty of healthy (well, healthier than most) snacks, and a deli case with hummus, falafel, grape leaves, vegetarian tamales, and lots more.
A little overpriced, but I'm sure the rent is high! Also, they make coffee by the cup. I know nothing about coffee at all, but I assume that's probably a really good thing, no???
On a side note....now that I've mentioned Double Rainbow, it's the season for Double Rainbow Pumpkin Ice Cream! Wahooooo! Why didn't I ask them if they carried it? Damn! If you haven't tried it, you must! I know this has nothing to do with this review, but you will thank me later, trust me. -

Let's go ahead and get it out of the way: prices here are obscene. Come to terms with the fact that a.) most of us can't afford to shop here everyday and b.) you can get a lot of this stuff elsewhere for half the price.
That said, this adorable little market boasts a modest but quintessential lineup of organic fare, along with fresh coffee and pre-made meals. Moreover, if you're lucky enough to have this in your neighborhood, it's open late and has all those little things you seem to need on a Sunday night when everything else is closed: cold medicine, TP, detergent, brownie mix (sadly, no booze).
The best thing about Jump Start is the staff, with friendly George, who knows all his frequenters by name, working the cashier.Listed in: My Neighborhood

These guys are the best.
They welcome everyone with open arms and are among the nicest people in the city. They don't mind dogs in the store. In fact, my dog (and all the others) gets a nice treat when she comes in. I'm not talking about a tiny Milkbone biscuit. I'm talking about a nice slice of turkey, pastrami, or whatever else is on hand.
The coffee is excellent as well.
I'm so happy to be living around the corner from this place. One of the reasons I love living in San Francisco.Listed in: Da Mission

Grilled chicken on dutch crunch with everything. So good I haven't tried anything else yet. Very friendly owner, treats me like a regular and I've only just started going. Just a lovely place.

This family owned establishment has welcomed me every day since the day I moved in. They have an excellent assortment of fresh Mediterranean deli items, snacks and assorted sundries to get you buy when the sugar has run out and you need to make cookies.
Peter and George are great, and they make a mean club or breakfast sandwich when I am feeling decadent (or just lazy). If there are ever any issues with what you've bought, they're more than happy to issue a refund, and they have fixed the ice-cream issue with a new line of freezers.
Try the Big Bopper coffee - one of the best in the city and a good substitute for Ritual when I'm feeling lazy. -

When I was in high school (ICA! See my review!), the owner of this joint used to let us hang out in the back of his store and smoke weed before class. Good times. Until one the tenants in the building complained and called the principal.
They had good lattes. -

So the sign outside says "Brewed One Cup at a Time" I thought this would be Totally Awesome(tm). Instead this was probably the worst mocha I have ever had, hands down, and the manager was even worst!
First I asked the friendly barrista if they had non-powdered chocolate, which they didn't. Looking back I should have taken this as a sign. So they used a chocolate flavored syrup. Then the barrista started to steam the milk for my iced mocha WTF!, and then rummaged out some old ice that loks like it was hanging out in their fridge for some time.
I was asked if I wanted a double shot of espresso and said sure. So I get this fugly looking mocha and I thought well at least its cheap.
No Dice!
The barrista asks the manager the price, which said $2.60, on their signage, but he says $3.25. I decide ask about this and he gives me the evil-eye. Again, WTF! Then the barrista adds another 50 cents for a shot of crappy watery espresso. For a grand total of $4 after tax.
I have had bad coffee, and when I know when to expect it I can temper my taste, but this was truly horrendous.
I hope to some divine force that this place is banned from making coffee at some point in the future. Do yourself a favor:
DO NOT GO, AT ALL COSTS! -

My neighbor, my spare-key holder, my neighborhood news provider, UPS pkg. collector, awesome sandwich builders, hug-when-I-need-one providers....and groceries! Oh yeah, and my favorite coffee provider. I'll take a cup of Big Bopper over waiting in line at Ritual Roasters (which I like, but have no patience for) any day.
Jump Start, you're almost the perfect boy friend! -

Five reasons for five stars:
1. Whole wheat rolls
2. Grilled chicken (among many, many options)
3. Half-sized sandwiches
4. Accepts credit cards
5. Wide selection of energy bars
And that doesn't even include the friendly, attentive service. Great spot. -

I'm quickly learning that prices in a San Francisco grocery are inversely proportional to A) the size of the grocery and b) how obviously the word "organic" is featured.
This place is really small and organic is displayed brightly on the storefront. So there you go. -

This place is pretty standard-- nothing out of the ordinary. The sandwiches used decent ingredients but are nothing special. Anyone who says the BLT is the "best in SF" is not very finicky about their BLTs.

This place is well appointed, the staff are friendly, everything is in the right place apart from the prices.
This place is too expensive compared to other places in the neighborhood.
Try 26th Street market two blocks away. It has very reasonable prices and the staff are really friendly. -

AMAZING coffee! I used to go to another coffee shop for my coffee but after tasting Jump Start's jet fuel, I can only come here in the mornings now (plus their coffee is cheaper by the cup than the other place i used to go to).
not only am i addicted to their coffee, but their sandwiches as well. get the grilled chicken...it comes on a roll and is one of the best sandwiches i've eaten for lunch :D
plus, the guy who works here is SO incredibly nice and friendly. LOVE it! -

My one stop shop in The Mission. Perfectly brewed and economical coffee, yummy sammies, good produce, healthy snack options and Peter, the nicest shop owner ever. So lucky this is close.

I love Jump Start. I go every morning and Peter or George makes me my onion bagel with one egg, swiss, and tomato, and they know exactly how I like it. Their brewed coffees are great, although I can only really vouch for the Big Bopper kind. They also have tons of organic grocery necessities, so I get my soy milk and frozen Amy's meals there sometimes too. Oh, and they now make me a great turkey melt on a French roll that's so good I went seven days in a row!

I'm glad to fully advocate Jump Start Coffee and Grocery. I may be a bit biased, as it's about 30 feet from my front door, but the sandwiches are fantastic. The salads are great. The coffee is my favorite in the city. And, last but not least by any stretch, the crew that runs it are all very cool and down-to-earth. It's always a pleasure to stop in and if I could give it 6 stars, I would.

This is exactly the kind of family owned and operated establishment that I want to endorse. There is nothing that I didn't like about this place, including being called 'sweetie' and the like. Peter and George and any of the other people that filled in from time to time are always always super nice. They've given me things to sample when I was there and it's always been good. They have a good selection of ice cream which is always important and they make great sandwiches. My only complaint is the sometimes lack of bacon... often I would come in for my favorite cream cheese and bacon bagel sandwich and alas... no bacon! It always made me a little sad, but I kept coming back for more. I even baked these guys christmas cookies one year (when I still lived in the hood).

This place is a slice of the neighborhood. The folks who own it are great. One guy in particular can talk some shit, but that is what makes it so great. They have great coffee. Their bagles are full of flavor and are made with TLC. I love the garlic bagel toasted with cream cheese, onion, tomato and avocado. You will thank me later.

San Francisco, CA
This was exactly what I needed today. They delivered with a hand made single shot cappuccino and hummus snack for 4.00 even. The coffee was mild but tasty while the milk was a little bit frothy for my taste, but still delicious. Hummus was fantastic but I recommend avoiding the "garlic sauce" on top -- it's too salty. I love the true corner-coffee shop to the place. I will be back.

I have total EA for JumpStart. They grind my coffee and suggested the perfect mix that receives continuous compliments when I serve it at home - it's a mix of 2/3 organic french roast with 1/3 hazelnut. Nothing, and I mean nothing, compares to this coffee. The family that owns and works there is so incredibly nice... I feel like I'm cheating on them when I go to any other coffee shop in a 1 mile radius. The bagels, the sandwiches, the handsome guy who calls me (and everyone else) "Sweetie", the ATM outside, my favorite cleaners next store, and of course, the coffee... totally increase my apartment's property value. I heart JumpStart.

I've been coming to Jump Start for about six years now. Every morning, I get my first cup of coffee for the morning from them before BART and work. These guys make my day better, for real. Their coffee rivals the ritual down the street, especially since there isn't the 20 minute line, and their friendly attitude makes all the difference.

San Francisco, CA
It would be difficult to calculate exactly how many times I go to jump start in a given week. It's not because the prices are good or the coffee is that great. It's not.Often I get there too late for the selection of coffee I like and end up opting for the big bopper or kenya blend. That doesn't mean (time willing) I couldn't just ask them to brew me a cup of what I really want because they will. I'm often in a rush. When I'm not I like sitting on the bench outside or talking to Peter. He always calls me sweetie, which, I have to say feels pretty good.I guess it's just the little things that make this place what it is.

Peter the owner made my friend and I amazing sandwiches! He even remembered her sandwich order from months before, and took the time to recommend to us what would make each of our orders taste better. (salt and pepper on the tomatoes, without mayo, with ranch, garlic spread etc). This deli is friendly, clean, yummy, and a great place for all of your quicky mart needs!

The family that runs this place is great. I go there fairly often for coffee, deli sandwiches and their great salad selections. Prices are good, great customer service, and most importantly, good eats.
