Jos et Basile is a butcher's shop just beyond the Jean Talon market square in the pretty of Little Italy. Originally based in Lasalle, Jos et Basile have been serving rare Italian products for over 30 years. Foie Gras? Bison? Horse Filet Mignon? If they don't have it in shop when you pass by they can ship it anywhere in Canada. Sometimes we luck out and there are just 2 huge, aged steaks waiting for us (gotta get up pretty early to get to the steaks before this local, ha!)
There is a prepared food counter with some pizzas and sandwiches, a couple of tables with a local or two eating whatever is freshest and watching the game, and a TV that seems permanently turned to soccer. As it should be. This is also one the spots in the area where, throughout the summer, you can buy the big bags of maple lump charcoal ie; wood not pressed chemicals! Deeelicious.
