Review from David G.
Vancouver, BC
I just bought a Primo XL Oval Kamado-style grill from them along with accessories. It was a bit slow for the guy at the counter to go and find all the accessories in the back but finally it was all ready and paid for. We loaded the grill itself into the back of our Jetta Wagon. It barely fit, and we had to take it out of the cardboard to get it into the trunk. The guy driving the forklift almost damaged our car badly when he accidentally drove it forward instead of in reverse after loading it in our car. Anyways, we got lucky and the prongs of the forklift were just above the bottom of the trunk.
I got home and right away, I knew that getting the grill out of the car was going to be a huge pain in the butt. The thing weighs 200 lbs. Also, during assembly of the Primo XL cradle, one of the clinch screws near the top of the cradle broke on me (the head's rim came right off), and the side tables for the XL were missing the screws, nuts, etc... I called Johnstone's and talked about Gary about getting someone to help take the grill out of the car, and about getting the hardware for side-tables, and about the broken screw. He said he couldn't do it that day, but maybe the next day. He offered to replace the whole cradle just because of the one broken screw. I thought that was pretty good.
The next day, his guys showed up (luckily my mother-in-law was home, as they never called ahead of time to say they were coming) and put together a new cradle along with the side tables, and then moved the grill from our car into the cradle and then wheeled it to the back of the house. They didn't charge me anything.
I would have given them a 4 for the somewhat slow service at the store the day I ordered and the fact that there was hardware missing, and the fact that they didn't offer to do a delivery/install at the time of purchase. But I think the fact that Gary took care of it all for me the day after I called makes up for all those other little things, and I will definitely go to them again for more accessories. Their showroom is huge and they have a large selection of BBQs and parts. -

If you're in the market for a barbecue, this is the place. They carry all the top brands, from Weber and Broil King on up, plus all the accessories you could ever want for outdoor cooking. I suffered for years with burnt food on my cheap hardware store special BBQ, but no more! I heart my Broil King barbecue from Johnstones. (Geez, I sound like an infomercial.)
When I bought it, they were really helpful about loading the heavy box into my car, despite the fact that I pretty much just made it there at closing time. They also offer repair service (thankfully, haven't had to take advantage of that yet) and will also assemble the BBQ for you for a small fee.
Johnstone's also sponsors a local Canadian Barbecue Championship team, so if this is where the pros go, that's good enough for me. -

For anything to get a 5 star from me, especially after I'm crabby from driving over the bridge, it means they're definitely good!
These guys know their BBQs well and you'll get a much better answer to your questions than if you're dealing with the random employees at Home Depot. Like Christine, we BBQ'ed for years on a crappy portable one. We decided that our house was worthy of getting a real grill.
Great selection of BBQs from Broil King and Weber, with a separate section for those crazy BBQ gurus with the massive patios. Huge selection of accessories too.
One of the big pluses about buying from here is the selection. Particularly with Weber, some of the exclusive higher end/premium models in the Genesis with the thicker stainless grates and interior are only sold at BBQ type stores and not the big box stores.
They don't try to oversell - I wanted a Weber Genesis and my husband was drooling over the Weber Summit. The salespeople are very practical and essentially told him it would be overkill for our needs.
The downside is the pricing which is set. Normally this is okay but with the great exchange this summer and currently, Webers are priced much more competitively in the US.
