    I loved this place!

It is located in the Holiday Inn!  The service and food was outstanding! First, I started with the stuffed mushrooms smothered with cheese....Amazing!  The best I have had anywhere.  I was told by the General Manager that it is the local sausage that takes it over the top!  Finally, I ordered the Ribeye Bone-in!  the steak was ordered medium rare and cooked to perfection!  I have found a hotel (Holiday Inn) and restaurant (Johnny's Italian Steakhouse) that I will continue to patronize when I make my monthly visits to Des Moines. Job well done!

Johnny's is a Fantastic Steak House.I had the filet and she had the parmesan encrusted New York. Both were prepared perfectly. Cooking a steak Rare seems to be a lost art anymore,Johnny's has it down. The special was salmon blah blah blah. But it did have risoto as a side. I asked our server if I could get it with my Filet. He made it happen and it was great.Drinks are spot on with a great selection. The whole experience at Johnny's is Superb. The service matches the food. It is normally a pretty quiet place.

It is the best steak in this town, therefore I gave it 5.

Forget Longhorn, and Texas Roadhouse those chain joints can not compare.

This may be one of the highlights of my trip to Iowa. Surrounded by a bunch of lovely dovey couples, there I was sitting next to my 2 old married coworkers. Let's just say that the food made up for the interesting atmosphere at our table. haha

Ambience is very romantic. Dim lit settings. Small cozy restaurant. Bar in the front. In the middle are tables and at the sides are the booths. Slow swing music (not live) in the background.

Food was so good. We order crab cakes and it was amazing. It tasted fresh. You could taste the fragrance of the crab and it was soft and fleshy. I would totally come back for the crab cakes.

Calamari was not good at all. There was more batter than the squid. Squid was dry and salty. I don't recommend calamari.

Signature steak medallions with their special herb sauce. I think this was the first entry written in the steak menu. I would recommend this dish. I ordered asparagus with mine which paired very nicely. Steak (medium rare) was tender and flavorful. Not as marbled as I would have liked it, but it still hit a very nice spot.

Chocolate martini, loved it. I think I was very happy by the end of dinner.

I would definitely recommend eating at this restaurant. Make reservations beforehand. We ended up getting a 9PM reservation...but perhaps VDay may have had something to do with the crazy schedule.

All I can say is fantastic.  Steaks were perfect, we did not have reservations, but we only waited about 1/2 hour.  Blue Moon was cold at the bar, who cares about wait.  Waitress did nice job.  We will be back.  Gave 4 stars, have not found a five yet.  This was close

Surprisingly good spot.  Great menu with lots of options - it's a steakhouse, but choices include: nice salads, pasta, seafood, and of course meat.  Lobster ravioli gets a thumbs up.  Perfect location for a business lunch or nice dinner out.

I went here with 5 others for a business dinner last night. We were seated promptly (it was also 5:30, and there wasn't much competition for seating). The place wasn't a ghost town, but I wouldn't say that it was bustling either. Like I said, it was 5:30.

Our server (Chris) took very good care of us. He was friendly, and had very helpful suggestions. There was one point where we all wondered where he was (towards the end of the entree portion), but other than that he was quite attentive. I can't necessarily fault him, as there could be some explanation.

Given the size of our party, he steered us toward the Little Italy Sampler. Four of the appetizers on one plate. I must say that I was disappointed with this choice, however. The sausage bread in particular was very limp. Fried mozzerella and the calamari were run of the mill. Nothing more, nothing less. The shrimp on the shrimp bruschetta added nothing to the equation (shrimp bruschetta isn't on the menu by itself, only as a part of the sampler). I think the regular bruschetta would have been better. Overall, the appetizer section of the menu was a little bleak.

Chris did not flinch when I ordered a Campari and soda. A lot of servers would have a deer in the headlights look if I were to order that somewhere else (as in not be familiar with the apertif). When our host ordered wine, our table agreed on a Pinot Noir. He had a particular one in mind, and let the server know our selection, but our server recommended a couple that were lower in price. I give him high marks because he brought a splash of three different Pinots for the host to sample: Irony (our server's initial recommendation, and currently being pushed by the restaurant), Blackstone, and Kenwood (our host ruled this one out immediately). He ultimately settled on the Irony. This was a decent wine, but not a lot of depth. Our host noted that the server didn't bring a sample of the one that he initially requested, but we all concluded that this was because it was not available by the glass, and he would have had to open a bottle just for this purpose.

I had the bone-in ribeye, rare, with a shot of bernaise on the side (and I got kudos from Chris for my order - his favorite menu item).  It came out perfect. The mashed potatoes couldn't decide if they were supposed to be creamy or lumpy. Most of it was creamy, but there was about a quarter of it that felt like it had barely been touched with the masher/mixer/whatever.

Dessert was excellent. I had the Grand Marnier Chocolate Mousse. Others at the table had the berry cheesecake, tiramisu, and the chocolate cake. Each went over very well.

Unfortunate Coda: The drive home was unpleasant. It was more like a race. Could have been the bernaise sauce (the likely culprit), could have been the rare ribeye (not as likely). But the drive home has never felt so long.

I've been here a handful of times since this location opened.   We've never had bad service here--servers are always prompt, attentive and have never gotten anything wrong.  The steaks are quite good, very tender, albeit a little fattier than at some other steak restaurants.  We always over-indulge on the great, family-style salad and bread served with each meal.  The only time I've ever been disappointed is when I ordered the prime rib-not the greatest.  Now that I've learned to stick with steaks, I'm happy.
