Review from Tara A.
I feel slightly guilty as I thought for sure I had reviewed this place a million moons ago. With that being said, I love John Steinberg Salon. I go see Sheena everytime and she is so dependable.
She is always there to greet me at the front door and always offers me coffee / tea etc. She gets me settled and has so much patience with me when I'm trying to figure out exactly what colour I want / how short I want to go, etc. She offers lots of advice (which I need!). The thing I really love about her is that she can be very talkative when I want to be social and is quiet when i'm in my own little world.
The price is more than reasonable for what I get done and I have never left feeling remorse for the cut I got.
When Sheena isn't available and I'm desperate, I've gone to other stylists and always been happy. -

I would never recommend anyone to go here. I feel like I got ripped off! I went twice to get ombre and the first time I went I saw 0 difference but I thought I'd give it a second chance... The second time was even worse! He made it darker and I literally have like 4 highlights in my hair and I paid about 200 dollars! People who see my hair and ask how much I paid literally think it's a joke! 200 dollars for nothing! John Steinberg salon is filled with people who pretend they know what their doing.. they don't know anything. I feel ripped off big time and I should've said something at that moment but I didn't... At least I can warn people to not make the same mistake. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY at this salon.

Worst service and worst salon I have ever been too. Joseph did my hair and absolutely ruined the colour. Stripped it completely of all colour and then died it almost black. I was looking for dirty blonde and ended up looking like death warmed over. Terrible. Also the people at this salon made me feel like I wasn't good enough or stylish enough or rich enough to be there. Would never go again and would never recommend this salon to a friend.

I went here for the first time yesterday, and I will definitely go back. Everybody was very friendly, the hairdresser had a proper consultation with me, it's clean, and my appointment was on time. I had Sherrai, and she's great - I will ask for her next time I go. She's very professional and an excellent stylist, as well as fun and interesting to talk to. She made a point of asking as she went if I liked what she was doing, and if I wanted her to cut a bit more from one part and the effect that would have, etc. She also gave me tips and a demo on how I should blowdry my hair in particular, because it's quite wavy and I have problems blowdrying it straight. She was really excellent, and her price is quite fair. The people who greeted me, took my coat, got me water, shampooed me, and saw me out were all friendly and professional as well.

I recently moved to King West and was in search of a new stylist. I came across a review in BlogTO that raved about JS+A, so I thought I'd give it a try.
Upon arrival, I was greeted, seated, and offered a drink within 30 seconds. All of their staff were very friendly, and the design/atmosphere inside is vintage/chic... with lots to look at =]
Each of their stylists has a different rating and price (which you can find on their website or on their store front). Some prices are reasonable, and some are pretty high! I thought I'd start out with Benjamin (a Jr. Stylist) ... and to my surprise, he cut my hair better than any other stylist I've ever had. In addition....he was such a nice guy... he had an amazing personality... and he truly LISTENED to my questions, concerns, etc.
I've since been back 3 times and I recommended my boyfriend try it out too. We both agree it's the best place we've been to in the city.
Definitely check it out! -

the service was amazing. everyone was very helpful. I had Christopher do my colour and Alicia do my cut. When I first left I wasn't very impressed with the colour because i couldn't tell much of a difference in the colour. I ended up getting lots of compliments and after styling it a few times my way I am very impressed.

I love you analiese! She's amazing and a pro at cutting girl bangs which is something special. She'll even listen eagerly, while you talk about your dog. Just a super bonus for me!

Weee this is NOT a lawfirm. Thank god for that!
I changed, rechanged, rethought and cancelled my appointment a few times and finally one day decided today is the day! They were actually able to shuffle me between colorist and stylist and fit me in on a 3 hour notice. That alone is worth at least 3 stars.
My junior stylist, Sheena, not only coined the term "micro-trim" for me but also delivered the perfect micro-trim when I told her how little I wanted cut because I was trying to grow my hair out. A stylist that actually LISTENS to me! Unheard of. No really, UN-effin-heard of! -

Yay! I'm a fan.
It's sort of expensive since I'm a dude (52+ tip).
I go for Anelise- she's so friendly and funny. So really, this review is for her, not the hair salon. I think she charges less than most of the stylists in there.
Last time I was there, Geddy Lee was next to me! Wow!
/jk, rush sucks.
SO if you go....get Anelise. And bring her a sandwich from Reggie's! Or Craft Burger. Yeah, go to Craft Burger. Reggie's is worse than Rush.
And the coffee is pretty good. -

I've been going to this salon consistently for the past three years and have NEVER doubted by stylist. She treats me like a friend and the appointment is usually a conversation rather than me sitting nervously in my chair second guessing everything she's doing.
Message me and I'll let you in on who my stylist is. I don't want to put her name out there and then not be able to get appointments anymore. -

I can't claim to be the best with beauty maintenance - I get my haircut only a few times a year, but for me; there's no better salon in the city.
Compared to other high-end salons, the price is reasonable and the stylists are top-notch. Anyone can find the right style - no matter what your lifestyle, look, or background the team is professional and knowledgeable.
Plus, John Steinberg has graced City Line many times, and Marc Anthony's stylist reality-show - the man knows hair! (Despite not having any himself.) He is also kind and generous - no matter who you are John greets everyone with warm sincerity that makes you feel special. -

Fantastic service and got a great blowout.
As soon as I arrived I was offered a cold drink which was a welcome treat on a hot day.
The staff were super friendly and very knowledgable. My blowout lasted through a hot humid, then rainy day.
I will definitely return in the future for a haircut. -

This is the only hair salon I have been to in Toronto and I like it so much I have never considered going anywhere else. I found Samantha at John Steinberg on a music message board when I first moved here and I love the salon and her approach to hair. The décor of the salon is nice and minimal with rotating art that means you always have something new to look at when visiting. Sometimes small dogs are brought to the salon and those visits are always fun. A selection of excellent products are available for purchase but the salon doesn't pressure you to purchase them. All in all, it is a great place to get a new do!

just wanting to post in here cuz i was relying on other posts to choose a hair salon in toronto. got my hair cut sept17/09
i recommend this place, great vibe, Leesa was reaaaalllyy great!! she's got great experience and also taught - she calmly & confidently tells u what she's going to do & why, she gives advice on what type of cut will look best & what u described.
try it!!!
p.s. i actually didn't love my haircut, it was quite shaggy & all i want is some good bangs, is that too hard to ask? ha.
