London, ON
Before this place showed up, London's entertainment scene was a bit weak. Performers would speed past us on the 401 on the way to Detroit or Toronto and wouldn't give us a second glance. Now thanks to the JLC, we're back on the map!
If you've never been, here's what I can tell you: it is a licensed facility. There are 2 bars on site, but alcohol -- Labatts, natch! -- is available at the concessions and sometimes the smoothie huts will be open to have a little mixed drink. However certain acts will NOT have alcohol served (aka if the age of most patrons will be below 19). Most instances you will have to get a wristband by showing proper ID. Concessions serve pizza, popcorn, nachos and the like. Merch table is always ground level and if you come for Knights games, they also have a (year round?) store. It's hard to have a bad seat here, believe it or not. Yeah, sure the back of the house may not be ideal but the arena size is perfectly suited for many types of stage set-ups. Acoustics are fabulous, although, the closer you are to the giant speakers on stage, the more distortion you may hear -- or if the sound dude is having an off day.
If you're in the stands, you will most likely remain seated. This is what Londoners do...for whatever reason. You may be lucky (or unlucky, depending on how you feel about it) to get a section that actually stands up and shows appreciation to the act on stage. Act accordingly. Heh.
I'm just pleased as punch that we have the JLC now and it's well worth going to any show that revs up your excitement. Check out their website for upcoming gigs... -

I'm not sure what Londoner's ever did without the presence of the JLC in the downtown core. Oh wait that's right Jennifer already mentioned that as performers would just speed right past us on the 401! I've been to the here for concerts, knights games, and recently even an NHL game! Which would never have come to London if not for the JLC. The place seats approximately 10,000 people give or take when seating is taken up for a stage or what have you. Always pretty packed for hockey games so I suggest getting your tickets in advance. There are no "nose-bleed" seats here as it is a relatively small and intimate place compared to bigger stadiums/arenas like the Rogers Centre, and Air Canada Centre, but for something like a Jay-Z concert or NHL hockey game it couldn't get any better for the price you pay to sit in the upper bowl, it's literally like sitting at the 200 level at the Rogers Centre. The only gripe I have with the JLC are the food and alcohol prices, The exact same as going to an event in the big city aka Toronto, $10 beers and the food is no better. And you would think with the Labatt plant being in London and the place being called the John Labatt Centre, they would give us Londoner's a break and offer cheaper beer prices, but nooo. Anyways I'm also really happy that we have the JLC here now, and hopefully many more great events and performances to come!
