Love Joes Grill, but when we got here, it was closed for the night.

    Too late.  Next time.

They've got a great breakfast selection and like Mike P's review, this place serves up terrific breakfasts!

Will have to bring my greasy breakfast buddy to try out the Popeye.

The name always reminded me of a phrase John Lennon said in an interview about eating at Joes (in Liverpool of course).  So it's my Beatles connect for me in a way.

We used to eat here every weekend!

A mainstay in the Kits neighbourhood. It is only open for breakfast/brunch/lunch so do not plan on dinner. If you visit at certain times of the day/week, you may have to wait to get a seat.

Once inside, the menu is quite predictable: egg-based dishes to help you cope with your hangover! On my last visit I had the BLT and it was OK. I don't care for fries/coleslaw sides but that comes standard. The service is surly but effective. i will return soon.

I'm somewhat stubborn when it comes to my weekend breakfast, it needs to be within (short) walking distance of my apartment or I'm not interested, except for Joe's.  For Joe's I will hop in my car and drive there and be happy about it.

I've been to Joe's a few times, the prices are always very reasonable and the quality of food is always top notch, which is unexpected given the "greasy spoon" decor.  My last visit my wife and I decided to be a bit adventurous by getting the specials.  She got the "waffle sandwich", which was basically every breakfast food imaginable stuffed inside a waffle and I got the sampler (which was pretty much the same but not stuffed in a waffle).  I was a bit skeptical of the waffle sandwich so I tried my wife's, it was delicious!  I was amazed!  The sampler was very good as well, they cooked my eggs just how I asked for (not hard, but lots of placed mess this up) and the portions were quite big (which was good because I was hungry.  The bacon as well was prepared perfectly (not dry and brittle like a lot of breakfast places).  The only thing i didn't care much for was the giant sausage (i think it was a chorizo...just didn't seem like breakfast food to me).

Extra bonus points for being kid/baby friendly.

Just good old fashion value...excellent food at a reasonable price. I guess that's why there is always a long line to get in at meal time hours. Will mark as one of my favorites.

I really enjoy eating at Joe's Grill.  Yes, a friend of mine works in the kitchen--but that is besides the point here.

The food is delicious diner fare and at really good prices! (Especially for Kits!).

Today I veered away from breakfast food and ordered the grilled cheese with bacon and sides of 1/2 fries and 1/2 salad.  The fries were perfection!  Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.  I dipped said fries into a concoction of ketchup mixed with their house special hot sauce. SO good!

I ordered the grilled cheese on whole wheat bread.  It really satiated my recent pregnancy craving for it.  Yum.

I also ordered the clam chowder, which I couldn't completely finish because my eyes were bigger than my stomach when I ordered, but it was very tasty as well.

If you are in the neighbourhood give Joe's Grill a try.  They are sure to win your diner heart over.

For a cheap-ish breakfast, Joe's Grill is a great place. I had 3 blueberry pancakes, 2 slices of bacon, 2 sausages, and I was happy. Nothing mind-boggling, mind you, but good for the price.

I just wish they were open 24 hours so I could get my cheap breakfast fix any time.

My favourite place to grab brunch in kits.  Their prices are much fairer than its surrounding restaraunts.  Service is very warm and kind, and their food is always very delicious.  I highly recommend their Bennys, and their Patty Melt is quite delicious as well.  Better watch out on weekends though, since there is usually a line in the mornings.  Takes Credit, debit and cash!

There are a few of these grills around the city but I have to confess that the one of Fourth is the BEST to go to for cheap breakfasts.  There's often a line up out the door but it moves quite quickly due to the fact that your meal often arrives within the first 5-10 minutes after you've ordered.

Most call it a greasy spoon, but it's far more then that & can't be that greasy or I'd be feeling it afterwards like several of the other locations downtown.

The staff are GREAT & always make you feel at home albeit for only a brief visit as the patrons know it's a busy place & are courteous to the many awaiting a table.

Good bang for your buck,...NO QUESTION!

Joe's Grill has become my default cheapish breakfast/brunch spot in the neighbourhood. For maintaining decent prices for as long as I can remember, Joe's gets a solid 4 stars.

For just about 10 bucks I can your standard greasy spoon breakfast, with links of sausage that taste like butter tubes and a hot cup of passable coffee.

I mean it's no $3-$4 breakfast like Lion's Den or Yummy Sushi but it's also not up in the teens like other breakfasts in the area (Paul's, Sophie's, Autumn Brook, ReFuel).

I also really enjoy the dated chalkboard drawings of plates of spaghetti and cat/dog portraits.

We used to end up at Joe's Grill on 4th out of desperation. The lineup at Sophies was halfway down the block and the servers at Hell's Kitchen were too surly or stoned to know that it was opening time. Sheer laziness often prevented us from venturing much further and we'd wander on into Joe's.

The decor is nothing fancy. In fact, there's no illusion that they even tried. You seat yourself here, but the tables turn quickly. The service is also fast, and you'll never have to wait too long, even on busy days.

The food at Joe's is always decent. In fact, everything about this place is routine. If you are hungover on a Saturday morning this is blissful. There are no flashing lights or loud music, and the clientele is definitely less demanding than at Sophie's or at any place along Yew. You're in good company in your sweatpants, even if they aren't lululemon.

For $4.95 you can get a good heaping plate of eggs, vinegary hasbrowns, and toast. Breakfasts like the Ranchero (eggs, black beans, salsa, and cheese served in a deep fried tortilla bowl) are slightly cheaper than at Sophies or Hells Kitchen and are just as good. The coffee is decent and plentiful.

If it's character or feng shui you are after, there are numerous cute breakfast spots in Kits, and they are definitely worth the walk. Joe's Grill seems inspired by the great restaurants in curling rinks or forgotten strip malls, and I'm fine with that. So long as my toast is buttered and my coffee refilled, I'll keep coming back to Joe's.

Walk on past the line at Sophie's and head straight in to Joe's Grill. Okay, okay, there's some times a line here too, but nothing that's not standard for a weekend brunch.

Joe's is a decent greasy diner. It does nothing really to stand out and delivers exactly what you'd expect. I've always been pleased at the speed of the kitchen here, the coffee refills are consistent, and the booths are great for lingering over a crossword. The menu is classic American diner: expect grilled, fried, and deep fried galore.

Joe's Grill epitomizes the greasy spoon diner. If you're looking for decently-priced simple and satisfying grub, this is a good place to go. Just don't expect to be blown away by the food.

I came here for breakfast on a Monday morning and found the restaurant to be mostly empty. We ordered the eggs benedict (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...) and waffle combo (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...). Both dishes were just meh - not bad but not great either. I wasn't a huge fan of the hollandaise sauce and the too-thin ham was a little tough to cut through. The eggs were the tiniest I've ever seen and looked as if they come from some mutant chicken-quail hybrid. The dish also came with home fries that were your typical greasy fried potatoes, but the seasoning wasn't quite there and I've definitely had better. Though the waffles tasted fine, their wilted and wrinkly appearance made them unappealing.

This is a fine place to go if you lived around the area, but I wouldn't make a special trip out for it.

This is a small, no-frills kind of diner that reminds me of the diners of the olden days.  And they are quite a bit cheaper than Sophie's. However, the quality isn't as great either.  I got my basic Eggs Benny to test the waters: hollandaise sauce was definitely made from a mix. :( The ham was kind of like sandwich meet. The potatoes were really good though.  The coffee was also quite watered down.

So why not  a 2-star? Their prices are so cheap. You really can get a meal and coffee for under $10.

This place has an east coast style diner atmosphere. 4 stars for value. The waffle combo really hit the spot (2 waffles, 2 sausages, 2 eggs, 2 bacon strips, and fruit) for about $10 including that obscene HST.

Just like the other reviews, I'd have to agree that this place is a pretty great greasy spoon.  I often walk right past Sophie's for the oft less-busy (and perhaps slightly cheaper?) Joe's.
Bennys are good.  Classic breakfasts are great.

I never feel like waiting in line at other restaurants.  First because often, the service will suck or the food will, or both.  Going to Sofie's and being disappointed many times, one day we just kept on walking for 10 more seconds and got to Joe's Grill.

The place is not too crowded even though it will get busy from time to time, the friendly service will never lack.  The food is consistent and that's all that is important.  The coffee is pretty strong and will keep you alert for a while.  I like it because it's not pretentious: consistent good food, consistent good service,   That's all you can ask for.

Had a craving for some great breakfast grub with a couple of buddies and one of the wives. We decided on Joe's on the recommendation from a friend. When I arrived there my friends were waiting to be seated, there were probably about 5 groups waiting. We were seated within a few minutes. Menu had a good selection of the typical greasy spoon. I ordered the Joe's special omelet. It was well cooked and the potato hash browns was tasty. Coffee was constantly refilled without us having to flag someone down to fill it. I would have only given it 3 stars but the service deserved another star. The thing that impressed me was that the wait staff worked as a team helping each other out instead of: "oh it's not my table but I'll get your waiter for you". Each one had no problem filling our request. It just made things run so much smoother. A+ for the service at this place.

I took visiting family here after we arrived too late for lunch at Sophie's (which closes between lunch and dinner), and needed a quick bite that wouldn't spoil a planned dinner out. This place did the job of taking care of our hunger, but I left feeling pretty underwhelmed. My chef salad had fresh ingredients and was a generous portion, but it was nothing I couldn't have whipped together easily at home (although, to be fair, I did order a fairly basic salad). My family wasn't impressed with their burgers or club sandwiches, either, although there nothing "wrong" with them. On the plus side, it is no-frills, inexpensive and the vibe is old-fashioned diner. Also, our server was great, and as mentioned, it was open in that awkward in-between, late afternoon period when many restaurants around were not. If I came back it would be for weekend brunch, as I suspect the atmosphere would be more lively and their brunch items looked tasty, but there is tough brunch competition from other great places in the 'hood.

I have come to learn  over the years that no matter who you are and no matter what you do, or how much money you make there is nothing like a greasy spoon breakfast joint to get the day going.  It's charm is the no frills food and no frills decor.    I know one thing for sure is your guaranteed a great omelet at a no frills price.. I always have the three cheeser! yum!!!

Joe's is pretty standard diner food. It is relatively cheap and fast, and though it does get crowded sometimes I've never not been able to get a seat. I always order the waffle combo with scrambled eggs, bacon, and a bowl of fruit that is mainly composed of grapes, cantaloupe, and honeydew melon... Out of the 5 breakfast spots in the neighborhood, I like their bacon the least. I need it to be more crunchy.

Oh man, do I love this brunch spot! Sophie's has never impressed me, despite being *the* place to head for weekend brunch in Kits. Try Joe's instead. Sometimes there's a line but it has always moved really quickly for us, and the food comes up pretty snappy as well. Tons of brunch and lunch options on the menu, and they're alll delicious (Omelettes here are like the best I've ever had)
