Ahh good o'l Joe Leland. Russell is the man there. When I am in a rush to work I just stop on in and he knows my drink. Soy Chai. Prices are super cheap. 1.75 for a medium sized soy chai! Can't help but tip the guy a few bucks on top of that since I'd be paying more at any other chain coffee joint. It's a great tasting cup of soy chai too!
Other than it being small, it is a really charming addition to the Vis Valley neighborhood. It has your essentials there. A nice assortment of teas, coffees, cold drinks and bagels too! :) -

Ah! Mister Russell at Leland Joe's is my favorite barista in the city. He's local - he's friendly - and makes good coffee.
There are also maps and charts on the wall about the Viz Valley and Leland Avenue restoration and renewal projects. Good to see that someone's paying attention! -

I don't want to call anyone out, but the owner's name is really Russell. The name of the place refers to the fact that it's the only place on Leland to get a cup a joe. It's a pretty good cup a joe too. Not a fixed gear bike in site and no long lines to wait in, just a friendly neighborhood coffee shop. And Russell is a really nice guy as well. Next time you're traveling down Bayshore Blvd., make a right on Leland and see for yourself.

This is an oasis in Visitacion Valley. The owner and operator (Joe) is a charismatic, handsome, friendly guy who is a pleasure to visit. His cafe is clean and attractive and I love his tea selection (my intro to Mighty Leaf). He is a neighborhood activist and knows what is going on and makes wonderful conversation. I live in the Portola, but I will come clear over the hill to have a cup with Joe.

They open at like 10am and close by 2pm. They get city grant funds to stay open. It would otherwise be closed.

Joe Leland is a haven in Visitacion Valley. It's one of the first true coffee shops to be open on the Leland Ave (the neighborhood's main commercial district). The environment is ripe for studying with some headphones on, or catching the latest neighborhoods news from the locals, or just to catch some nice quiet time to read a book off the shelf. Russel, the owner, has a good selection of drinks and an abundance of knowledge of the neighborhood. So if you want a new experience in Vis Valley head down the hill to 28 Leland Avenue!
