After two years in Korea I feel pretty confident calling JJ Mart the most authentic Korean store in Halifax. It has the look, the feel, the kind and adorable family, and most importantly THE KIMCHI.
There are a few places in Halifax to buy kimchi. I've tried three of these places and while I won't point fingers, the boring and the MYSTIFYINGLY HORRIBLE kimchi I found elsewhere only made the sweet familiar perfection of JJ Mart's kimchi more satisfying.
I've eaten A LOT of kimchi. It's delicious, and it's incredibly healthy. JJ mart sells some of the best kimchi I've ever had, anywhere. It deserves 5 stars just for that. -

JJ Mart is awesome. The staff are wonderful. Routinely you can find a group of Korean folks in there just hanging out, drinking coffee and socializing. If you're keen to try some new ingredients and aren't sure what to do with it, fear not-- there's JJ Mart! You can hardly purchase anything without them asking if you know how to cook it. I've been offered tips on preparing kimchi, cooking sushi rice, and inari shells among other things. The staff at JJ Mart seem extremely pumped when you show an interest in cooking Korean food, and this makes it extra fun to shop there.
The selection is pretty good, as are the prices. My brother, who's spent time in Korea, feels that their homemade kimchi is the best he's had in Halifax. I'm a fan too. There are lots of other great things to try like Bacchus energy drink or fish-shaped bean-filled pancakes (a popular Korean street food). Next time you're returning books or DVDs to the North Branch library, take a quick trip across the street and explore JJ Mart!Listed in: Your friendly neighbourhood…

This little place carries a good variety of Asain Grocery. It is not a huge store, but here in a pinch you will find helpful staff and supplies for supper. At least I did.

Small but good selection of Asian grocery items, including dried and frozen items, drinks, snack foods. They were very friendly with advice on how to make things!
