    Raddest JJ in all of Vancouver, period. Minimal in decor, this little guy oozes cool from its every concrete corner.

    Sweetest baristas in all of JJ-land, no doubt about it. They may look aloof and slightly apathetic, but are in all actuality the complete and total opposite. Goofy without annoying, sarcastic without offending, giving without expecting anything in return, these fun folks clearly love what they do.

    The same strong brew one could expect from any JJ location, but somehow, in someway, just a little bit sweeter. The best unexpected surprise I could hope for.

    Good coffee. Dare I say the best. They also have really yummy Vegan chocolate cookies.

    However they do close early at 5pm I believe.

    Head through the ring of Downtown Eastside social housing to Railtown, where you'll find this JJ Bean location along a street lined with industrial designers, high-end flooring at Colin Campbell, and furniture wonderland Carriage Lane Antiques.

    If you work in the area, this is the best chain to go for Coffee. But even if you're just visiting, there are two reasons to spend time here. Firstly, this happens to be the bakery for all JJ Bean locations - so the baking is literally oven-fresh in the morning. Secondly, the crowd is particularly diverse and interesting, featuring the triad of SFU School of Contemporary Arts students, fashionistas who work in the many textile and fashion companies (including Aritzia) just down the street, and design-types who work at one of the many firms within a couple blocks (Dossier, Karo, Burnkit). The Sartorialist would have a field day down here.

    The space clearly wasn't initially designed to be a coffee shop, so some of the tables are at slightly awkward angles, but particularly in summer, when the huge patio opens it, you'll never have trouble finding a seat. I recommend it.

    Update:  "so soon?" you ask? Why, yes!

    This JJ's in nerd heaven, as is the vibe in this mysterious part of town. This area is Vancouver's art mecca. It leaves one to wonder; what do all these fabulously smart and artsy people do for a living?
    Yesterday I was just passing by again,  *whistles to self*
    so I decided to stop in and see if there is anything for me to eat. Since they do offer Paninni's and they do offer a chicken breast, I wondered, could I just buy one by itself? The girl was SO nice, she made me a salad with the chicken breast on top, and a splash of vinaigrette. It was fabulous!

    The big guy had a droolicious looking grilled cheese sandwich with a salad (for only $5.30) and ran his nose along a newspaper while I secretly observed and made up stories for each of the so-cool looking customers. :-}

    This JJ Bean hidden location is the bakery headquarters for all the JJ outlets, it's small and hard to find, but a real cool JJ Bean location for that fix...  cause the espresso bar is on the edge of the actual bakery and you know what that means.... the fresh goods are being made before you as you wait for your coffee.

    The cafe has a open patio which is enclosed for the winter months. and great hours 7am - 4pm
