    Delicious and extremely courteous staff!

Cowboy burger is AMAZING! Fries are highly craveable, and throw in their chipotle ketchup concoction, its perfect! All of their burgers are great, probably due to their high quality ingredients.

Had to catch a flight and told our server: order to bill was under 20 minutes and neither service nor quality was compromised (we even got wine)!

Been a few times and it is a GREAT restaurant with amazing food!

The onion rings here are delicious.  The drinks are good.  The view is great!  I am a big fan of restaurants with a view, and a bigger fan of restaurants that have a view and a parking lot.

This is a great spot to share an appetizer and have a beverage.  Haven't had a full meal here yet, but I probably will soon.

You can't go wrong with Jimmy's, I don't feel like they've ever wronged me with any dish. I've had the braised beef, the burger, the fried chicken and gravy, and even the turkey club was amazing!! And that's just a sandwich! Everything taste so fresh and wholesome.

I highly recommend the braised beef, the meat literally falls a part and the touch of horseradish and potato perfectly accent the dish. I don't even care much for horseradish.

Jimmy's view may be a little out of the way and hard to find, but the rustic, modern theme is really sophisticated and the patio view of the dock is beautiful. It's a little a little above average prices ($15-20), but well-worth the experience.

This place is a solid 3 stars. Hubby and I went here for a brunch date and wanted to try out a new place. I love the location and parking was pretty easy for our 10 am date.

Do your eyes ever wander to the table next to you to see what the portions look like and to see what looks good? Guilty. But strangely enough, the party next to us seemed to have barely made a dent into their entrees before they decided it was time to go. Hmmmm...worried me a little. I couldn't help but wonder why the dismay - was it the service or the food itself?

Right away, I noticed that the menu prices are much higher than what I'd pay for brunch unless I was eating at a buffet. I ordered the creme brulee french toast and Hubby got the steak and eggs. I didn't think my portion was going to satisfy my pregnant belly, but because it was so rich (like a creme brulee), I thought the portion was perfect, and it was pretty good! Hubby's steak and eggs were nothing to complain about  - yum.

Our server who I believe was Chris O. (according to the check) was very attentive and delivered great service. I'd definitely go back to JFAT maybe this time for dinner...I'm sure they'd possibly earn themselves another star.

For now, 3 stars because I felt that it was a bit overpriced and they don't offer things to order on the side (i.e. side of short stack of pancakes, side of bacon, hash, etc). Overall, good food, great service, and hip, stylish ambiance.

My boyfriend & I came to this joint, after purchasing a groupon. We don't normally frequent eateries around the Point Loma area, but thought we would give this place a try.

Arriving on a Sunday evening, we discovered the Sunday Supper special, where there are various entrees available at $18, with a choice of tomato bisque, clam chowder, &/or a garden salad. I had previewed the menu on-line and knew immediately that I had to try the Buttermilk Fried Chicken Breast with Mashed Potatoes in Thyme Gravy & was happy to learn it was part of the dinner special.

The fried chicken was more similar to a chicken fried steak type of feel, as it was lathered in a white creamy sauce. It was not what I was expecting (Think the popular Fried Chicken dish over at Craft & Commerce in Little Italy), as I thought it would be crispy fried chicken accompanied with the more traditional mashed potatoes on the side and brown gravy. The green beans were also caressed in the same white gravy and were a good contrast to the heavier companions of the dish.  I liked this platter and would recommend that everyone try it at least once. However, I would not get it again, due to the extreme richness and more of a chicken fried steak type of taste.

My boyfriend got the battered fish and chips, and he thought it was pretty good. He was not a fan of the chipolte ketchup, that other reviewers raved about. He loved the clam chowder, and I thought the tomato bisque, that came with homemade potato chips in seasoned pepper was pretty elite.

The Artisinal Three Cheese Pimento Dip with chips were good, but better for a party of four. We wanted a savory starter, but it was quite filling.  I washed it down with a cold root beer.

If we went back again, I would definitely go on a Monday, as they have a Burger and Beer special for $12.

I give this place 4 stars because I really liked my waiter and the other guy that brought out my food, who always had a HUGE smile on his face. The service is unpretentious, and it is not one of those places where you have to wait for them to refill your soda or check-in with you toward the end of the meal. It was relatively busy overall, but not at full capacity.

I would probably give the food more of a 3-star rating, only because I think the dishes themselves appear pretty typical, and while the tastes were good, I cannot say that it was the best food I had ever eaten. But I still really enjoyed the experience, and the friendly and attentive staff really made a difference, so kudos to the manager for the waiters he hired.

First things first. This place is a little overpriced. For $15 you get a double veggie burger and fries.

The burger was freakin delicious, but for $15 it should come with a drink.

I will say this though. DO NOT get a steak at this place. Trust me on that one.

went on a recommendation from a friend...and so glad we did. This place is amazing. We had a party of 8 at dinner time and were seated right away. The staff very polite and attentive. We had a wide variety of appetizers ranging from the "chips" to the spinach fondue and they were all amazing. The entrees were also a variety from the soy salmon to the fish and chips to burgers and everyone in our party raved about the food. We also shared a dessert and was not disappointed.

The location is right on the harbor so that is a great added benefit. Overall this place is worth the visit and I would be a regular if I were lucky enough to live in San Diego.

Came here for a very late lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Barely any patrons at the restaurant but enough to keep the workers occupied. Place is well kept and plenty of seating. Was seated right away. You have your choice of dining inside or in their patio. Being graced with lovely weather, we opted to get seated at their patio.
Our server was prompt and friendly. My little one and I shared the classic burger with a side salad and hubster ordered the cowboy with a side of fries. Was disappointed that we couldn't substitute our sides with onion rings but we ordered it anyway. Didn't really get to enjoy our onion rings since it came after we started eating our burgers. I did however enjoy their burger which was cooked to how I ordered it and liked the tartness of their house vinaigrette salad.
Would definitely come back here the next time we are back in town.

This is probably my favorite restaurant in SD.

Just had Sunday brunch here and was blown away.

Decided to start off by splitting a bloody mary with the boyfriend and ended up ordering another because it was that good. Best bloody Mary I have EVER had.

I had the Southern Eggs Benedict and they were awesome! So creamy and delicious and an interesting twist on Southern biscuits and gravy. The tots were also awesome - better than Bub's tots!

The bf had steak and eggs and also agreed that this was hands down the best brunch he's ever had.

We've also had their burgers (amazing), onion rings (ginormous), and selection of beers for dinner.

Def worth a visit and a great place to take out-of-towners bc of the great bay view!

Im gonna say it....BEST BURGER I HAVE EVER HAD AT A RESTURANT!!!!!!!!
I am a self proclaimed burger expert and I will defend my above statement to the death. I LOVE JFAT. Wonderful menu, great waterfront view, excellent wait staff, great bartender, and awesome decor. Prices are moderate and wayyyyy cheaper than anything found in the gaslamp for compareable (if not better) quality. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and this is a geat place to spend a happy hour after work. The only problem I have with JFAT is that I have to actually force myself to try other resturants otherwise I just keep coming back here. Would def recomend to anyone anytime. Oh yeah all the food is really good but I pretty much stick to the burgers.

I had a deal to use(as I usually do) and wanted to take a friend here for her bday lunch since we missed having brunch earlier this week. (I didn't realize they only do brunch on Sundays)

Anyway, we made it right after they opened at 11:30 and there were already a few parties lunchin'. We were seated on the deck-ish area with a lovely view of the boats on the harbor. I was a little too warm because of the heaters overhead but I could feel cold air too so I just dealt with it. A little heater wasn't gonna ruin my lunch!

The first thing we noticed was the mangos soaking in vodka at the bar...Ebony decided she must have whatever was in that container! We found out it was mango martini an it was delicious! I only tasted hers but it had a nice subtle mango flavor that totally infused itself into he vodka...well done.

Our server, Ciara, was a doll. My friend had her practically in tears with her inappropriate racial jokes about fried chicken and watermelon! Lord have mercy.

On to the food...I ordered The Jimmy Burger(pimento cheese, applewood bacon and jalapeño jelly), she ordered the Cowboy Burger(bacon, onion ring, cheddar, green chile and BBQ sauce). Everything about the burgers was divine! Brioche bun was soft and buttered, fries were seasoned and crisp. Don't forget the house chipotle ketchup...BOMB! So good we bought a bottle to take home for $7 each! We also  got the deviled eggs--BOMB!

This is a really cute place and I can't wait to go back...I have another deal to use, of course!

I tried the fish and chips this time.  This place has the best fried cod in town.  The fish had excellent flavor and the batter was crunchy and tasty.  It's a bit pricey at $18 but it's alot better than Red Robin's fried cod which has gone downhill a bit.

For dessert I tried the hot fudge sundae.  It was excellent!  I loved the vanilla ice cream and chocolate chip cookies.  I found out they get there ice cream from Fosselman's in Alhambra.  I'm gonna try them out next time I'm in the area.

JFAT... this is a MAN's MAN of a place, Paul Bunyan himself would enjoy. Super open with big over stuffed bar stools. Typical style ALL-AMERICAN style and food, Still have yet to try the food, but have been for a YELP event and then again for Yelp drinks week.
The place is tucked out of the way, No crazy club kids messing up your good day and sunny afternoon. We did catch the place on the tail end of brunch so there were a few kiddos around. Just warning all of you who don't mix kids with a booze and a good time.

I think this could be my new favorite restaurant.  Have been here once for dinner and once for Sunday brunch.  Love the ambience, location and the food!  Everything we had was delicious.  Apparently they are known for their burgers, but we tried the onion rings, fish sandwich, and fried chicken.  That was two weeks ago and I have be dreaming of that fried chicken ever since.  And I don't even like chicken all that much!

This is a great place for a low key meal with a little flair :)

The place was really packed on Saturday night so we sat at the bar. Just had some drinks and appetizers. Since everyone was raving about the onion rings we ordered them and they were to die for!!! The drinks were ok - not very tasty and creative. Also didn't think the view was that great. The pictures on the website are a little misleading. Not that fancy and their patio is ok but not really a place to chill with friends

Big fan of the atmosphere here.  I have yet to try the food, but it's your typical All-American burgers, salads and soups kind of place.
JFAT is like a cozy cabin inside, opening to a great view of the harbor.  Laid-back vibe, as it's away from the craziness of Gaslamp.  Mostly I just love boats - being around them, looking at them, etc.  During my most recent visit, we caught the tail end of the brunch crowd, which seemed to be more of a family feel.
Be wary of the Strawberry Ginger Deluxe, which really was more like Ginger Punch In the Face, i.e. I hope you like ginger if you get this drink.  But I did like the strawberry on the rim :).

Heading towards SAN with an hour to spare before your flight? Spend it here. I stopped-in for the sunny patio but I found that the harbor was sporting a blanket of gray. Even so, Jimmy's still has a great scene.

Consuming an excellent, generously portioned burgers and a $3 Pint of STONE (happy hour pricing starts at 3pm) will grease-the-wheels for that flight.

If the SAN TSA didn't insist on exclusively hiring grade school drop-outs, I wouldn't give the security lines a second thought and spend every minute of my pre-flight time here.

While it was a little pricey, it was not at all surprising, JFAT is right on the harbor, providing a nice view, especially at dusk.
We sat outside right next to the fire pit and it was perfect.
Their drink selection was incredible, I had the Kentucky Colonel which seems to be a rarity in these parts seeing as no one has ginger beer; she had the strawberry ginger deluxe... Having tried it myself, it was different and not what I had expected by the presentation which was a good thing!
    Now the food...
She, being the blue cheese fan that she is ordered the Blues Burger and was ready to jump the broom. I took the advice of the friend at the table and ordered the Sweet soy glazed salmon. To be perfectly honest, being from the pacific northwest myself, I was a little skeptical ordering because if salmon isn't fresh it doesn't have the same quality taste. My skepticism was made a fool as I was absolutely blown away at the taste and quality of the fish and the composition of the dish all together.
Well worth the money spent, the service we received was top notch, worth well over the 18% gratuity we were charged for our party of 8.
The only reason I don't give five stars is because I wasnt a huge fan of the location of the building. Being on the harbor was nice but being along north harbor drive in point loma most people in attendance are from the plethora of surrounding chain hotels.

While in town for business I walked here for dinner. I sat at the bar and tried the two San Diego beers on tap: Stone Pale Ale and Ballast Point Calico Amber. I am by no means a beer connoisseur, but I found them both pleasing to my palate.

I explained to the bartender that I was only in town for a few more days and would probably never dine here again. I asked him what item I absolutely must try. I followed his recommendation and ordered the sea bass. The sea bass was beautifully cooked and came with mashed red potatoes and asparagus. I love asparagus and mashed potatoes, and they didn't disappoint.

If I am back in this area, I would certainly come here again.

Last night was my first time at JFAT. The food was great as was the scenery, but the prices seemed a little high for my taste. The fish and chips came with 3 small pieces of cod for $18. Even the mussels we ordered came in a bigger portion with a smaller price tag. Don't get me wrong, the food was delicious. I was just surprised that we ended up spending that much for dinner. We also had the jalapeno deviled eggs which were very good with just a hint of spiciness. I would definitely come back when the weather is warm enough for me to sit at a table on the patio. Or on a Sunday for the prime rib special.

My girlfriend, mother and I happened upon this place after looking up "best burgers in San Diego" online.  None of us had ever heard of Jimmy's but were willing to give it a go.

We arrived around 3pm on a Saturday (not during football season) and were promptly seated at a table of our choosing.  The restaurant was full but not crowded and there was a good vibe from the wait staff and bartenders.  Our drink orders were taken immediately after we were seated.  The ladies both ordered Mango Martinis and I ordered a Karl Strauss Woodie Gold lager.  All the drinks left something to be desired.  The girls complained of their drinks not being strong enough and I thought this particular Karl Strauss lacked taste, but at no fault of Jimmy's as it was very fresh and ice cold.

Our server returned to check on us and took our order.  All three of us ordered burgers: one Spicy California, one Classic Cheeseburger and one Cowboy.  All three were cooked to absolute perfection and came in huge portion, with an ample amount of toppings and among the best frech fries I've ever tasted on the side.  None of us were really a fan of the chipotle ketchup but if you're a fan of chipotle seasoning then I'm certain you'll love it.

Overall J-FAT was a great experience.  Right on the water, great atmosphere, great service and great food.  The drinks we ordered weren't the best but with Stone Pale Ale on tap, you could certainly come here and not go wrong with anything you order.  I will be back.

On an weekend trip to San Diego with the family for some fun we found Jimmy's Famous American Tavern.

After having driven a few hours stuck in traffic on the 5 everyone was hungry, and with kids this can be doubly frustrating.  We hadn't planned anything in particular for dinner that night, not sure of when exactly we would arrive so we looked up a few places online and decided to take a shot with this one, mostly because the online description said it was reasonably kid friendly and had food that would be good for both kids and adults.

As we got closer to San Diego it was starting to look like we would arrive at dinner sometime around 7.  Jimmy's in on the harbor and sports a full bar, and since this was a Friday night we decided to call ahead and see if they would take a reservation.  We were told that they normally don't do reservations for less than a party of six, but when I explained I had hungry kids, they said, "No worries", and put us down anyway.

We actually showed up about 10 minutes late and they were still very understanding saying given their location and traffic, it wasn't uncommon.  Very cool, very friendly people.

The location is awesome, right on the water, and even though the parking lot and the restaurant seemed full, there was a pretty good "come and go" and we had no problem parking and were sat immediately.

The restaurant itself was very clean and very nice with a casual yet upscale bar and grill atmosphere, very comfortable for adults, but still someplace that well behaved kids wouldn't be out of place or inappropriate.   When we arrived there was another couple with kids about the same age as ours having dinner, but the majority of the patrons ranged from the mid-late 20's up in their 50's and were dressed from casual to nice, with some in jeans and others still in slacks and dress clothes from either work or an evening out and both styles seemed completely appropriate and at home.  Jimmy's has both indoor and outdoor dining, plenty of heat lamps so even though it was a little cooler that night, there were still plenty of people out on the patio.

My wife and I both like a good margarita, and so both ordered the J-Fat from their drink menu.  Excellent.  I typically prefer a larger grain, flakier sea-salt rim to a fine grain salt, but it didn't have that overpowering ordinary table salt flavor to it, so it was all good, and the tequila was a nice El Jimador Silver, with real agave, lime, and  Cointreau.  All-in-all a very good margarita.

After the drinks came the onion rings, the meatballs also looked very tempting but the portions looked large so we stuck to one app.  Homemade, good beer batter, again very nice quality and flavor.  When we asked for a sauce to go with them, they brought us a spicy ketchup based sauce that goes was very good and a little different.

For dinner I ordered the fish and chips.  Good local cod, light and flaky with a clean oil- free flavor in an equally light crispy beer batter that also was not at all oily or greasy.  All with malt vinegar of course.  The portions as I mentioned were a good size, and after having my share of the onion rings, along with sampling a little of everyone else's, I couldn't finish mine.

My wife is from New Orleans and whenever we are out, if she sees a dish similar to what she might get at home she gives it a try, usually with disappointing results.  This time she ordered the spicy peel and eat shrimp broil starter for her entrée and was very impressed.  In her words, "On par with the Palace Café shrimp broil," and if you know NOLA, then you know that's pretty high praise.

Jimmy's also features burgers made with Creekstone Farms 100%  black angus beef.  Which while not grass-fed (the leanest, best flavored, and best for you beef there is) is still pretty damn good.  So we ordered sliders for the kids and did a little sampling. Excellent flavor and perfectly cooked, and quickly gone.

Then for dessert we split a cheesecake, my wife and kids split a cheesecake, which I forced myself to taste.  Once again, very good, surprising light body, very smooth, very fresh.  According to my daughter, "It tastes real, better than anything at the Cheesecake Factory".   I personally think the Cheesecake factory sucks, so couldn't agree more.

The prices are typical of what you would expect to find in the harbor of San Diego with 12-20$ entrée's and 8-12$ apps, but when were done, our bill was not that much more than what we would have spent at a Chili's or a TGI Fridays, but the service, atmosphere, drinks, and food were far superior to anything either of those places has ever served.

Given the type of place it is, it couldn't get much better.  5 stars.

I have been meaning to write this review for about a month now, and with the holidays now over, I can finally sit down and focus on it.

I had my birthday party here, with 20ish of my closest friends and family members. When I called to make the appt, who ever answered the phone (was a guy) was super friendly and polite and said he would grab a manager to make sure the reservation was ok. She was great, no hesitation when i told her it was a large party. She said we could be seated on the patio, but assured me it was warm.

The morning of, I received a call to confirm. I had told her that it was probably about 20 people, but i wasnt exactly sure because people flake out. She told me she understood and would see me and my party at 6.

My boyfriend and I were to first to arrive and although they had our table set up already, we took advantage of the large "seating area" to wait for a few more guests.

When we all arrived, we sat down and looked over the menu and ordered some drinks. Since it was my birthday I opted for the bellini. The menu wasnt too extensive, just that everything looked amazing. I couldn't decide between the butternut squash mac and cheese or the braised short ribs. Since i was feeling decadent, i went with the short ribs. I also liked that they had good veggie options since a few of my party didn't eat meat. All I can say is the short ribs were one of the most amazing things I have ever tasted. The meat was so tender it melted in my mouth. The garlic mashed potatoes were perfect. Not too garlicy, which is good. I had asked for the horshradish on the side, and somehow that got missed, but it wasn't very over powering so it worked out. My friend ended up getting the mac and cheese, so i got to try that and it was amazing as well.

They were very accomedating and friendly through out everything. Large parties are a pain in the ass, and they never made me feel like we were asking too much.
Everyone had a great time and I am so glad I chose this place. I will totally be returning to try some of the other things on the menu, and more bellinis!!

    Thank you JFAT!!

Ps....Im not sure if it was all the bellinis or not, but it was soooooo warm on the patio, even on a december night.

Love the outdoor seating with lotts of sun and a gorgeous view. Probably my favorite patio in SD. As far as the food goes, there really are only a few healthy things to choose from so if that important to you, I'd check the menu before going. Lots of artery clogging options:-) They do have a great mimosa Sunday deal though which is bottomless mimosas for $10! They have great cocktails and a great beer selection.

JFAT I think I love you.
I came back just a couple weeks later to enjoy those mango infused martini's once again. Bonus! It was happy hour. $3 off all appetizers.
We had the sliders, which have a blue cheese topping, which added the perfect unique flavor to an old favorite.
I also had the spinach fondue dip and the buffalo meatballs. The dip was tasty, but damn! the meatballs were off the chain! I think I can make meatballs at home, but even the 10 year old boy said, "Mom's meatballs are the best 'regular' meatballs, but she has never made buffalo meatballs". Quite the diplomat, yet so very true. I can't compete, and I wouldn't want to - it makes me have something to look forward to every time I am in the fair city of San Diego.
The server was super and make us laugh. The hostess laughed at my joke, even though I wasn't sure she got it at first, but she just thought I was nuts, which is even better.
The staff here is fantastic. Professional yet fun! Tops!
I won't even go into how amazing it is to lunch, or dine, or just drink in an open air environment with boats as your backdrop.
    I heart you!

i totally love this place. it is my new go-to place for when people are in town. it has really good food, and is right on the waterfront, so it's great for visitors who don't get to eat on the water all the time. it also has indoor and outdoor seating, and the outdoor seats are fully equipped with heaters, so you dont get cold. it's also really conveniently located.

my favorite thing is probably the kitchen sink salad. it has EVERYTHING in it, but it's not too much (somehow. i know if i made it at home it'd be a whole different story). i've had a few of the sandwiches which were all good too. and i think fish tacos as well. i love this place!

oh, i also think i have heard they have a good breakfast/brunch, so i'll definitely try to hit that up sometime soon!

UPDATE: still haven't been to breakfast. but get the soy-glazed salmon. it is sooooo good! i have been thinking about it all week!!

Sunday morning brunch was not crowded at all, and our food came really quickly.  Tater tots were amazing, as was my husband's creme brulee french toast.

Really nice setting.  Will definitely be back.

the view (or at least i would assume -- not sure since it was dark when i got there) is likely awesome with the boats and the pier location in point loma...service can be a tad sluggish (or at least that night that i was there), but eats are decent and the atmosphere is casual, trendy, and fun...

def get the deviled eggs as they are amazng...the buffalo meatballs are nothing to write home about...

    for next time:
i'm definetely checking out their sunday dinner deals...2 course for $18...not bad at all i say!

I came to Famous Jimmy's for the 3rd time and was again very pleased with everything!

They have an outdoor patio with a retractable ceiling that allows an outdoor feeling even if its a little chilly by the bay. They have a greta selection of beers, their hamburgers are top notch and love their chipotle-like ketchup. The atmosphere is relaxed but with an upscale feel.

I ordered the Spicy California and my friend ordered the Cowboy. We both loved our burgers and the fries were fantastic. Service was very quick, courteous and we never had to ask for a thing.

Great location for a lunch  by the bay... though no real bay view, just all the yachts and passerby on the sidewalks.

I love this place. The fish sandwhich is plenty yummy! Service is on point. Their special kecthup is frigging awesome. I will say that I enjoyed the fish sandwich so much, that it lead me to find a yummy fish sandwich recipe to try out. Which I did and it was as if a Fish Cod God, lent me skills on how to make a tasty sandwich out of one of his children.

I recently visited this restaurant for lunch with a friend from out of town. The restaurant itself is beautiful and the food matched the atmosphere! The server was very attentive and gave great suggestions. We started with the pimento cheese dip which was good but the grilled sea bass sandwich was amazing!! Overall a good place to visit!
