Local little coffee shop culture IS NOT DEAD!!! Long live Jimmy's. It goes to show that if you create a cool vibe, you can compete against Starbucks. Just don't try to do what Starbucks is doing ... be different. Keep up the great work Jimmy's.
Of course there is free wi-fi ... "welikecoffee" is the pw. -

Coffee is a very subjective thing but after spending 2 years in Vancouver I've been looking for a go-to place for an Americano. I've found it. Jimmy's is definitely one of the best around and the prices are very reasonable.
It's a quirky, hole-in-the-wall type of place but I've always found the service, and customers to be quite friendly. -

I came here on Boxing Day with a friend to have some coffee and to catch up. Located off of King West, Jimmy's Coffee is located on Portland in a little house that's converted into a coffee shop. There isn't many seats, however, we quickly grabbed a place to sit considering it was Boxing Day.
The service was great - very friendly people. There's also free wifi there as well.
According to BlogTO, Jimmy's Coffee has one of the best Americanos - so we both decided to grab an Americano -- definitely a great choice at Jimmy's. Unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to try any of the baked goods there.
Will be coming back another time -- it's such a quaint little place, loved it! -

My coworker swears by this place... and he's a 4-cup coffee a day kinda person. Whenever he wants coffee, he talks about Jimmy's like it's his best friend, yet it's too far of a walk so he settles for Country Style across the street.
I decided to take a brisk walk to jimmy's before my walk to work just to see what the hype was all about. At about 8:30 on a workday, this place is bustling. the place is not very big, so even if you cannot decide what to get, jump in line because it gets long quickly, but the service is speedy.
the lady was extremely polite, attentive, but still moving quickly to get orders out with one person steaming milk and making lattes.I decided to treat myself and got a banana chocolate chip muffin with my latte. Unfortunately, they did not have skim milk (which i really prefer), so settled for 1% instead.
The latte was good, i think the coffee beans were more acidic than I would prefer but to each person's own right? The muffin was soft and definitely hit the spot on a busy work day. The interior is rustic and home-like and I'll be back in for other deliciousness! -

Review from Anne B.
I'm going to admit it, I am addicted to Starbucks. Well, that is to say I was up until last Sunday when I tried Jimmy's for the first time. What a difference!
In keeping with the autumnal season, I ordered a pumpkin spice latte. Not to sound completely cliche, but it was love at first sip. I honestly felt like I hadn't ever had a real latte before - there was no comparison to how creamy and satisfying it was. The flavouring wasn't overly sweet (when I order these at Starbucks, it can be hit and miss...sometimes I swear 1/2 the cup must be filled w. syrup) just a gentle spicy pumpkin note enveloped by creamy (despite it being skim!) latte goodness. I unfortunately don't work or live close to Jimmy's...meaning that my midday 'bux fix now only serves to make me wish I could be transported back to 107 Portland somehow...
I also loved the vibe here. It was very welcoming and cozy.
Extraordinary coffee. You won't regret trying it out! Apparently the baked goods are also quite delicious - they even have gluten free options available. -

Good: The scones! The other baked goods look tasty as well, but haven't tried them yet.
Better: Service is quirky and friendly. Free wi-fi and a quiet place to get work done. Or dick around on the internet in my case. Also love sitting on the front patio on nice autumn days.
Best: Consistently the best coffee in my neck of Toronto! Better than dark horse, white squirrel, sense appeal, manic, moonbeam and all the others. Wow, this city seems to run on caffeine. Anyhow, both the drip and espresso-based coffees are perfection. -

Solidly busy late one Sunday morning, yet chirpy and efficient in providing me with the latte I so desperately desired - Jimmy's Coffee won immediate points with me.
Soy and almond milk are available for those of us lactose-intolerant or -avoidant - yay! Delicious soy latte, absolutely no complaints. I can't wait to get back for my next one! I'm hoping I can sit in next time, the cafe's a cute little spot with a variety of tables - and I love all the framed photos of various famous Jimmys on the wall. Nice touch.
They have a few snacky-wotsits on the counter if you're needing something solid to go with the sweet sweet caffeine too - stuff like nuts, Clif bars, fruit. Good idea if you don't want a pastry or something too heavy!
Thanks Jimmy's - and see you again soon! -
Review from Elle P.
I'm sure my friend Jennifer C is with me on this when I say that Jimmy is absolutely worthy of 5 *s.
Toronto is overrun with the ubiquitous Starbucks, Second Cup (the Canadian version of Starbucks), or the wretched and dreaded Timothy's. However, there are pockets of indie cafes that rebel against corporate blandness.
Jimmy's is tucked away on Portland, just off the hustle and bustle of King in the Entertainment District. I love the different sitting areas, and best of all the small outdoor patio has outlets, so I'm able to work outside comfortably under the shade of a large patio umbrella.
Latte is really good and strong; they have a pretty good croissant too. The exterior crust could be a little crispier, but the interior was perfectly flaky and tender. Sweet service, free wifi, lots of seats and not overcrowded with people. -

Jimmy's Coffee is our final stop for our Koffee Krawl... But it is also the first stop for some of our yelpers.. especially those one that partied so hard the night before and could not make it before 1 pm!
After having 4 cappuccinos..I am not really wired (maybe my fellow yelpers might disagree) but more like feel loaded with milk.... so I decide to try Jimmy's Americano ($2.25) instead.
The lone barista here was so efficient... taking orders, making coffees and collecting money like a well tuned machine!!
Though Jimmy's Coffee has a lot more seating than Thor but since it was set up to be laptop friendly so all the tables were taken and would likely be occupied for another hour or more at least. Luckily, it was a nice and warm afternoon.. the little patio at the storefront seems like a good place for us to decide where were going next.
My Americano is a refreshing change from all cappuccinos I have been drinking this morning... It really woke up my palate.. bold and nutty, the way I like it! A perfect ending to my first UYE Koffee Krawl! -

It's another one of those reviews where I'll keep that extra star to one side until I try the food!
I arrived too late for the UYE-not a Yelper to be seen. I had a massage booked for a while later though so it made sense to settle here for a quick cup of coffee beforehand.
Ashe served me and was just so so friendly and welcoming. Her chatty demeanour made me feel like this was a real local coffee shop. I watched as other people entered later and it was clear that they were regulars and really felt at home here.
The place is small but doesn't feel poky-just cosy. I loved all the weathered wood. Clientele was mixed and it had a nice chilled out ambience. The girl next to me was tapping away at her laptop using hte free wi-fi. I was happy to sit reading my book with my great cup of coffee...although the conversation next to me was way more interesting. There are advantages to closely placed tables!
$2 for a medium filter coffee seemed reasonable and it was smooth and not a bit bitter. For once, I decided against stuffing my face, so can't comment on the food but the guy next to me had what looked like a delicious scone! I'll definitely be back to test some of the baked goods. It would be so bad to leave my review incomplete, after all! -

Don't love it, don't dislike it.
The snacks are yummy, but I'm not overly thrilled by the coffee or espresso. When I went in today, I ordered an iced Chai Latte...meh. The chai was a syrup, and the guy didn't even bother to fill the drink up to the top. There was a good inch that could have been filled up. Not so impressed.
It's a cool place, but I definitely don't go out of my way to stop in. -

Great coffee and the staff are friendly too. Similar to say Manic coffee in quality just more congenial. I don't usually stay and drink coffee, it's a bit small but great coffee shop in the King West area.

Review from Corie A.
I am an avid Yelper. I have to Yelp everything, period. I recently moved to Toronto and after passing countless second cups and starbucks. I craved something a little more flavorful, personal, and less commercial. Jimmy's Coffee easily satisfied this craving. I ordered a soy latte and the nuttiness of the espresso plus the nutty soy milk was perfection. I am a little perturbed in general of the .50 cent charge of soy milk because really how much more does it cost? Ummm...it's about the same price to buy a carton of milk vs. a carton of soy. But, everybody else does it so I can't let it affect my review of the place.
I also parked it in the back room in one of the cozy sitting chairs and didn't move for maybe 4 hours. The Jimmy's staff knows how to choose some good tunes too.
Thanks for the great cup of coffee. -

They keep the nutella croissant an "open air" secret. It's there. Perched right next to the regular croissants, but there's no sign distinguishing it from the regular croissant. Only an insider would know. (Thanks to Vivek S for his insider knowledge).
A mass line forms and fades away faster than you would think. The baristas have it down to an artistic science. And my double shot americano proved that point. Loved that it came in glass complete with a knitted rainbow sleeve.
As for the famed nutella croissant. It's a smart invention. Forget a chocolate croissant whose insides stiffen once cooled, a nutella stays spreadable, yet not melted for your eating pleasure! But I don't think it can hold a candle to my true love, an almond croissant. Other than that - all I can say is "Yay Jimmy - you lit my fire!"

Review from Vivek S.
It was a diminutive sandwich board on King Street that pointed me in the direction of Jimmy's. It's a wee squeeze of a place that at 10 am was busier than a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest. A dim room in the back is more chill, which some benches, granite-topped tables, a wall-mounted TV blasting CP24, magazines, a few inconveniently located outlets and a petite window as the main source of light. My Americano was top-drawer except that it was served in a glass tumbler with a odd-fitting felt sleeve (it almost seemed like a repurposed wristband). But I had fair warning from the staff on this issue. No worries. Oh, the muffins are delicious, btw. I will be coming back.
Obligatory Title Rhyme: Why do Timmy's when there's JIMMY'S? (No pun this time, sorry.)
Menu Readability: Hand-written menu on an overhead chalkboard. Nicely done.
Need to mention: There is a patio out back.
What this place teaches me about myself: It took me a while to figure out why there were photos of Jim Morrison, Jimmy Hendrix, and Jimmy Page mounted against the exposed brick interior wall. (I'm sloooow.) -
Review from Tanya N.
Jimmy's is somewhat tucked away on Portland but there's usually a sandwich sign on the north east corner of King & Portland pointing you to the right direction. Once you walk in, it's as though you're taken away into a little cozy neighbourhood cafe as opposed to impersonal cafe along King (eg. Starbucks).
I met a friend here for a morning latte - good morning, indeed. Just what I needed to start the day. Seating is limited so we were lucky to grab a spot. They have a number of baked goods and....sushi. Yes, they had a take out sushi in their "cold section" (not sure what else to call it, but that's where they have all their juices, yogurt, pop etc). It threw me off a bit but I guess it's good for the people that work that don't want another sandwich.
The decor is great and they have pictures of various "Jimmy's" on the wall to keep you occupied while waiting in line.
I need to go back.Listed in: For the Love of Lattes

Ran into this place today. Pretty tucked away and hidden from the main thoroughfare on King West. and it's right beside some dumpsters and parking lot so it's not a storefront that you would THINK charming. But it really is.
I asked for, what I felt was a non-complicated order but they gave me a slightly --uhh...ok...-look as they wrote it down. That look alone is the minus one star. Other than that the espresso was EXCELLENT. Sweet, with fair crema (although doesn't beat Sam James) but is still very very good.
Really really chill place to hang out, have a meeting. Super cozy inside and I would forgo the wifi just because it's such a nice place to come with PEOPLE and hang out. -

Very simple and good. Jimmy's Coffee is a great coffee shop. It's the end of the line, the fifth stop on the coffee crawl.
The coffee shop has an old rustic look. It reminds me of an old pub, but it works for this coffee shop and it's quite inviting. Space is limited, but there is space to hang out and sit outside.
The server was friendly and quick. She seemed like a veteran of the barista trade as she was working alone and made the drinks and handled the cash with complete competence and confidence.
I had the medium cappuccino. It was very creamy, but light on taste. I would have liked it to have more of a coffee taste.
This is a nice place to hang out over coffee, tea, etc. I would definitely come back to try some of the other offerings. -
Review from Tara Z.
So I'm not a coffee drinker, which may immediately disqualify this review, but I'm a lover of baked goods and I have a great weakness for cozy coffee shops that look like they'd be cool with me hanging out for hours mooching wifi and pretending to work on a novel. (Seriously, it's like halfway done--I've totally named all the main characters.)
You should definitely try the butter tarts. Seriously, do. And then maybe get yourself a steamed milk and go sit at a table in the front patio with your dog (don't forget to grab a biscuit from the bowl at the cash for him) and maybe finish writing that damn book already.
Jimmy's seems like it would be cool with that. -
Review from Kat F.
I've very much warmed up to Jimmy's Coffee and it's become one of my favourites. Yes it's true, I was not a fan of the hot chocolate on my first visit, but as of my fifth, sixth, seventh visit and beyond, I've been loving their cappuccinos (the charming and beautiful girl that makes them is so sweet), and they always have a fully stocked selection of Circles & Squares baked goods - cookies, brownies, tarts and loaves. I never have to let out a disappointed sigh that my favourite muffin is sold out; they know which flavours to replenish. If you know me, you know I'm going to complain about their early hours (6pm) but for some reason I'm always in the area during the day anyway. That's about the only thing they could improve.
They have dog biscuits for your pup at the counter, a sweet back AND front patio, free, strong wi-fi, ample fans to keep you cool, and a few TVs airing CP24 to keep you educated. Be mindful though that this place is small - maybe 15 seats total, so don't come here with a huge group looking for somewhere to hang out. The magazine selection is also killer - current selections and a nice variety of men's and women's interest issues. They also take debit without any fees or minimums. Sweet! -

Not only is this a chill place to hang out and do some massive wifi'ing, but they can make my drinks with LACTOSE-FREE MILK. For reals.
I am now stomach-gurgle free and no longer have to cancel dates just because of a mid-afternoon iced latte! -

I came across this shop when I was working in the area and thought the only coffee option I had was Second Cup, until I saw the little sandwich board proclaiming 'Jimmy's Coffee' with an arrow. Who was this Jimmy? Where was I headed? It turns out, to coffee heaven.
The decor is cozy and cool, the staff are friendly and the have a good selection of magazines in the back room if you happen to be able to get a seat. The lattes, americanos and espressos are well made and come as quickly as Jimmy and the staff can make them. A great coffee shop in a pretty terrible coffee neighbourhood. Hooray for Jimmy's!Listed in: Must...drink...coffee. A list…

I can tell a lot about a coffee shop by, well, literally their coffee.
Lattes, cappuccinos, hot chocolates and orange mocha frappuccinos are all fine and dandy (And don't get me wrong I love poncey caffeinated beverages as much as the next person!) But if a coffee shop can't get a basic coffee right then forget it.
Jimmy's though does get it right. To the point where I don't want to order anything but.
Fantastic lovely coffee each and every time. It's become a haven for my coffee drinking needs in the morning when the most convenient coffee shops in the area are Starbucks and Second Cup, I'll go to Jimmy's every time and they're quicker too! -
Review from Kelly O.
Wow...this place IS amazing.
I had a large medium roast drip to go, which was delicious and smooth, and not at all burned tasting. I also got a salted brownie (or some such name), and IT IS AMAZING. The brownie base is SUPER moist, fudgy and chocolatey, and to further blow my mind, there is a slightly crunchy top, which isn't icing, but like a crisp salty layer of some kind. It really IS f*ing awesome. Like homemade, but better!
All this for only $4.10!
The atmosphere is great too, and its a safe little spot to tie up the dog while I went in to order...and they have a lovely patio perfect for the impending summer season! Go there!!!!Listed in: ROTDs! Holla!

Review from Anne M.
Great little coffee shop in the King W. are, made that much better given it's coffee deficient surroundings. I always get a latte and it is always good. However, what is especially great is the variety of baked goods, both savoury and sweet. My personal favourite is the cheddar and herb muffin... Seating is limited, and it tends to get really busy around 10-11 in the morning. But they move quickly and are always friendly. Also worth noting is a $0.25 discount when you bring your own mug.
On a side note, I had a good laugh when I understood the connection between most of the photos - they are all famous Jimmys, Jims and James'!Listed in: Do you like a latte? I do.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Timmies, but after trying Jimmy's Coffee I felt like I had missed out on some vital part of my coffee education.
The vibe is hip & indie and the goods are quality. What can I say about the coffee? Go try it. It's amazing. Nothing more really needs to be said there.
Love love LOVE the bacon & cheese scones.
The highlight for me is the enclosed back patio- perfect to sit and chill, whether you want to go alone or with a group. The staff are friendly and it's a pefect "local coffee house". Quite literally an old converted house! Great place! -

My vanilla iced latte was kind of eh at first, but once I loaded on the sugar it was quite good! As for the caramel banana bar I ordered to go with it...heavenly at first bite! Apparently a company named Circles and Squares makes 'em and they sure can bake!
They have free wifi and I was psyched to be able to use my iPhone for free...or so I thought until I got hit with a $400 cell phone bill when I got home. Yikes! Fortunately, AT&T was nice to me (for once) and took off the charges.Listed in: My visit to Toronto

I really like this place. Aside from the charming, cozy and warm atmosphere, the pastries and treats are what bring me back here almost 3 times a week. I am very keen on some of those delicious and buttery scones, particularly the cheddar and bacon one, that crumble and melt in your mouth. They also sometimes have these wondrous Parisian macarons that are the size of my palm. Mmmmmm
The service is amazing too. Everyone that has served me here is extremely friendly and welcoming. They seem genuinely happy to serve you and to work there. To sound as corny as possible: Jimmy's Coffee really brightens my day. -

I really love this place - definitely the best latte within a five block radius and I've tried most of the cafes in the area. This place is an extra couple blocks away from places like Le Gourmand but well worth the short jaunt in my opinion (any latte I've gotten at Le Gourmand has tasted awful).
I come here as a treat a few times a week and it always lives up to my high expectations.
The cafe is small and cozy. The majority of the staff are nice enough but I don't get a great vibe from most of them - except this one guy who I've seen only once and quite recently, he was much more friendly than the others. (As a side note, one of the women is downright cold, unless, of course, you're a dude. Then she warms right up.) No matter who's making my latte, though, it's always delicious and that's really the most important thing for me when it comes to a coffee shop.
The second most important thing in a cafe is the baked goods and treats. I'm fairly sure they're not made in house but it doesn't matter because they are fucking fantastic! I've tried the cookies, the butter tarts, and a mini cinnamon roll - each of them tasted good and fresh.
There are a couple better cafes in the city, but this is the best one in this 'hood. -
Review from Aaron B.
I live up the street from this place and I spend most of my days in cafes so why did it take several months for me to finally get a chance to come here? They close too friggin' early: 6:00pm!!! I feel like I need to remind them that they are a cafe in a predominantly residential neighborhood and surrounded by nightspots (restaurants, bars, pubs, clubs). This whole area is abuzz at night but you can't find a single cafe that's open even just to get the rather commonplace after-dinner coffee. What the hell?!? So they obviously lose a star for being unreasonable inaccessible.
The bran/date muffin I had was pretty decent, a bit dry and nothing special. The macchiato I had was above average, and I appreciate that they have lactose-free milk (so do most places if you know to ask). I don't know if my friend liked her latte, but she left 1/3 of it in her glass so that's not a good sign. The seats aren't particularly comfortable. The fans they need to keep the temperature below boiling on a rather cool (for summer) day are bothersomely noisy, and finally the music being played for the last 30 minutes I was there was loud and intolerable! Thankfully I wasn't trying to study during that time or I would have been forced to leave. Before then it was fine.
Don't try it on a really hot day because it's sure to be sweltering. And you may need noise-canceling headphones. And there are lots of drafts in the winter so you'll need a sweater to wear inside. And they start their cleaning/restocking drill at 5:00pm so if you want to concentrate then that's the effective closing time. With all those flaws it's still a step above Starbucks because it's got character and good-tasting coffee, but it's nothing great. -

I had my first Jimmy's coffee last week and it was a perfect moccacino! I used Jimmy's for a casual business meeting with a couple of good friends I'm working with and found the atmosphere relaxed (love the bw portraits of all the "Jimmys" on the wall) and the coffee was a hit with everyone.
I had the bacon/cheese scone and thought it was a little bland. I'm not normally a huge fan of scones (which I usually find bland) but I couldn't turn down something with bacon and cheese staring me in the face. I'll grab one of the other delicious looking treats next time.
If they offer a wider variety of snacks, I'd bump this up to a 5 star review! If it was closer to my place, I'd be there much more often! -

Jimmy's is one of the best coffee shops in this neighborhood.
I always get a soy chai latte with a shot of espresso and they make it perfect every time. It's also cheaper than Starbucks and 1 million times tastier than Starbucks. I also get the date squares sometimes, which are delicious. The staff are very friendly and are damn good at making coffee beverages.
The atmosphere has a bit of 'hipster' vibe to it.
I also work in the area and last summer I used to spend hours working at their back patio. It's small and only fits about 8-10 people so good if you need a quiet space. It gets a little crowded inside so I wouldn't recommend going there to study unless you like the noise. -

I love everything about this place. The coffee is awesome and cheap. You can get an americano for $2. And it's a fucking awesome americano. The staff are friendly and good looking. The place gets busy, but they churn our coffee at a good clip. It's a small space, with few tables. The interior is quite nice and homely. Most people just get take out so I've never actually had a problem getting a seat when I have needed one. They have a tiny patio in the back, and a small one out front. It's easy to miss the shop, since it more or less looks like someones house. The Fashion District is pretty full of good coffee shops, but I think Jimmy's is currently the best of the bunch.

I finally had a chance to stop in and visit Jimmy's on Saturday.
My overall first impression of Jimmy's was good. I found it cozy and comfortable. I didn't try any of the treats but my double Americano was delicious. It gave me that jolt of energy I needed. An added bonus was being asked how I was enjoying my coffee by one of the baristas. Interesting. I've never been asked that question about my coffee before. It was a pleasant surprise, and an invitation to return again.
I'm giving Jimmy's 3.5 stars, the .5 comes from the customer service I received. -

One thing I miss about Seattle is good coffee. I finally got the fix I've been jonesing for at Jimmy's. I have to confess: I drink decaf. I would love to drink regular, but it makes me sick -- so, decaf it is. However, finding a place that does a good decaf is rare. Not so at Jimmy's. I got a great latte with nice, velvety foam. The barista was nice, too, and didn't give me an ass-face for ordering decaf. The coffee shop itself is cozy, bordering on cramped. It's good for short periods, but I wouldn't camp out there for extended periods doing work. The only thing I wish they'd do is a mocha latte -- I didn't see it on the menu, but would have loved to have one if they could make it.
