It's amazing how many people are unaware of our free social programs.

JS is a sweet spot in Leslieville full of fun things to do, and they help keep our youth out of trouble.

Lap Swimming, that's what I do, I have to keep in shape. I'm losing my Brad Pitt physique and time only makes it worse, bugger... Pleas read Lap Swimming Etiquette 101 - Common Sense

Yesterday I had a blast, really, but it had nothing to do with the program. As I was changing to go home a large man, John Candy build, walked in from the showers stark naked looking for his towel.

"Hey, did somebody take my blue towel?" A petit man wearing Buddy Holly glasses looks up, he was wrapped in this large man's blue towel.

"Sorry I thought it was mine", Buddy Holly was red from embarrassment.

In the end Buddy Holly gave John Candy his towel which was tucked under the benches, and they both stressed the towels were fresh out of the laundry (it felt like being in the movie Planes, Trains & Automobiles). http://www.youtube.com...

The funniest part was that John Candy continued to joke about it, still standing naked in front of this poor man.

I weaseled out of there trying not to laugh, and then it struck me, what's going to happen with the towels? I mean, are they going to swap after being used on a strangers biological feature?

Who's going to break the ice and present a solution?

    I'll never know.

I've lived in the east end of Toronto nearly my entire life, and I only just started going here. For the most part, I think the reason behind this is that the exterior has always looked a little daunting and a bit sketchy to me. However, after recent renovations (the facilities were closed for most of the beginning on 2010) I ventured in for the first time, and was pleasantly surprised. Incredible clean, the change rooms where not what I have grown to expect from Toronto public swimming pools. They were dry, pleasant and didn't even smell much like chlorine. Showers are divided kinda like toilet stalls and the washrooms themselves were also pristine clean (again, surprising for public, free, facilities).

There are two swimming pools, one of which is a shallow tot pool. The adult pool has lane swimming everyday, along with a variety of aqua-fit, free swims, family swims and open swims (still not sure what the difference between these are). I've found the other swimmers to be courteous and do generally keep to the correct lane for their speed. If you're in the hood - don't be afraid to check it out, it's nice!

its free.  this important to remember when approaching and using this place.  when i first moved into the neighbourhood, the outside of the jimmy simpson was adorned with graffiti and perhaps prophetically, shedding its blue painted skin from the siding that covers most of its exterior.   For, like the neighbourhood in which it resides, it has made itself over.  during the summer and spring months the large plot of land attached to the centre has beds of lovely flowers, a tennis court and a baseball diamond.  i also remember attending a rally against big box stores bullying their way into the neighbourhood on its grounds.

now there is a large gym there, no weights, but a large swimming pool.  thats what i do.  as is to be expected, the pool is divided into 3 large lanes for distance swimming but it can often be crowded and disorganized, so i always find myself attention being split between giving good energy and focus to my swimming body, and wanting to use the legs of my swimming body to kick somebody in the head.  (it's a tough go but im getting better.).  there is one lifeguard there (oldest of all of them - read most professional) that does take rules like showering before you enter the pool, or swimming in the proper counterclockwise format seriously.  im appreciative of that because the other lifeguards look like they need some saving of their own frankly.  from boredom.  i also happened to mix up scheduling there before and found myself getting my exercise from doing an in-pool aerobics class run by this boisterous guy who made everyone laugh and kept them from bemoaning all the exercise he was subjecting them to.

so for a pretty good place thats free, as yelp says, this place is aok.
