Review from Morten R.
Burnaby, BC
If you're a Hendrix fan this place is well worth the trip. Though it's a run down little house with a cloth mock-up of the actual Hendrix shrine in Seattle it's an interesting piece of rock n' roll history. The shrine is actually the kitchen of Jimi's grandmother's fried chicken restaurant. Inside you find the typical Hendrix images and stuff and also some family photos and very cool authentic-looking photocopies of his own notes - everything from setlists to personal notes.
Historically significant, at least for people who consider Jimi Hendrix historically significant. -
Review from Louise G.
The restaurant on this site used to belong to Nora Rose Moore Hendrix, who was Jimi Hendrix's grandmother. Jimi lived by here for a while while he was in primary school.
There's a lovely, well-kept shrine here that needs more respectful attention.
Nora was a leading light in the local black community called "Hogan's Alley" which used to be here before the viaduct went in.
Near the train station - it was a perfect place for Pullman porters to own a house when working for the railway was one of the few upwardly mobile jobs available to blacks.
Over the years, the community built a strong church here which was a strong attraction to new arrivals in Vancouver
Check out the button on the east side of the building for the full "Experience Music" experience..Listed in: FTRs, Mainly Main
