Review from Trina R.
Brooklyn, NY
I've lived in a lot of parts of BK & Manhattan. Jesse's is the best deli hand down. The staff is SUPER friendly. I love them all.
They not only have typical bodega stuff but they have good organic products that are fairly reasonably priced for the neighborhood.
And they make the best egg & cheese on a roll...and best sandwiches. BEST. That's not an exaggeration I swear.
While you may not think a bodega/deli is anything more than just that, Jesse's is a big part of what makes this neighborhood great. -
Review from Peter D.
There's nothing worse than things that are overrated, like The Doors, New Year's Eve, mixology, women's suffrage,* Pineapple Express, Zenkichi, your mom, looking respectable, crack, etc. They get our hopes up, which are only dashed later on when we realize it's just average, or worse, terrible.
When I first went to Jesse's, I assumed it was overrated. But after repeat visits, I've realized that for a little bodega/deli/convenience store, it really is as good as it gets. Everyone should have one of these near them.
The girl at the counter is cute and friendly.
They make good, fresh sandwiches.
It's open late night.
Awesome beer selection (Southern Tier even!).
The place is small, but completely packed with just about anything you'd want. And yet, it's still not too cluttered, just well-organized.
This is everything a corner deli should have. And more, even.

Ok, I've come around -- I love this place now. They've got everything under the sun and it's open 24/7 and the staff are always friendly, chatty, and helpful. The neighborhood would not be the same without Jesse's.
The made-to-order sandwiches are delicious (try the chicken club on a toasted hero), and the bagels are pretty fresh too.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Review from Brodi B.
Brooklyn, NY
Hands down the best beer selection west of Park Slope's Bierkraft.
This place is your typical tiny deli as far as staples go (milk, bread, etc.), but they also manage to always carry an amazing selection of beer - here's a couple brands they usually have: Unibroue, Samuel Smith's, Grolsch, Rogue Dead Guy, Arrogant Bastard, Pacifico, Skol, Chimay....to name a few. -

Where everybody knows your name and you're always glad you came!" Great neighborhood market with all the staples you need when you get off the #4 at Nevins feeling you just barely survived a human salmon run. Not only will you find Lindemann's Framboise Limbic, string cheese and a staggering variety of Pepperidge Farm cookies, you will also find that the folks who run the market are a very friendly and warm bunch who are just as likely to chat with you about the Steelers' non- touchdown in the Superbowl , who won the Africa Cup or whether your day went better today than yesterday.

This has been my neighborhood deli for several years so I must have been here a thousand times. They pour a great cup of coffee and make a mean sandwich but the amazing part is their service.
They get packed at times and it gets a little claustrophobic but they hustle to get everyone in and out. They have an almost ridiculous range of products tucked away throughout the store so if you don't see something you need be sure to ask.
And its definitely not open 24 hours. I think it closes from 3am to 5:30am. -

It seems they are no longer open 24/7 (or I was previously mistaken). However, I showed up late one night (around 4am) and since the gentleman inside recognized me, he opened the door and let me right in. "We're open 24/7 for friends," he smiled.
Also, recently, when it started pouring suddenly and I mentioned I'd forgotten my umbrella, they loaned me one of theirs and simply said "Just bring it back next time you come."
Does it get any better than that? And the sandwiches still can't be beat!1 Previous Review:

i've lived in Boerum Hill for about 10 years, and this little corner store has been a blessing. it's open till about 1:30 AM nightly, and the staff has always been friendly and helpful. while not a complete gourmet store by any means, it's surprising the variety of things they have there tucked in the corners that one may need in order to rescue a meal at the last minute -- jams, mustards, spices, syrups, different kinds olives, different kinds of rice, specialty juices, etc. -- and they are always eager to please with the sandwiches, made custom as per your request. they also have a nice little selection of international ready-to-heat foods and international seasonings. great little surprise of a store. (btw,Jesse's is NOT really a "bodega" because that word usually describes hispanically-owned stores -- which usually have a different flavor and carry a different selection of products.)

i'm updating my rating from 4 to 5 stars simply because the folks at Jesse's are just so damned nice and eager to please...and their coffee is better than the coffeehouse brew one block away (which costs 2-3 times as much!) -- and Jesse's even has brewed decaf! for what they are -- just a little corner deli / convenience grocer -- it doesn't get better.
