I found a beautiful little tartan dress for my daughter in this shop. It was a little pricey in the $40s, but it helped me finish my shopping. I found the same dress at another store in Halifax later on, with more variety in colour, sizes, and accessories, but they had exactly what I was looking for, so I'm a fan. (I didn't look at the price, just in case it was lower.)
The shop has a lot of Scottish- and Irish-related items that tourists would hope and expect to find in Halifax. I don't imagine the locals stop in too often, but it's a must for tourists looking for something smaller to fit into a suitcase.
The staff is very helpful and friendly. -

While it's merchandise is primarily aimed at tourists, this can still be a fun store to visit, even as a local. They have some nice gift ideas (of course there are the tartan clothing items, folk art pieces, maple syrup everything and other general Nova Scotian cliches you might expect, but there are other interesting things as well).
There are dishes, food and drink items such as specialty teas (they have the *best* blueberry tea...my mom's always begging me to buy her some when she runs out since it's hard for her to get downtown) and jars of jams, jellies, and other spreadables...I like the spicy mustards, and the raspberry mustard (sounds weird, but it's surprisingly good). They also have jewellry, handmade soaps and bath salts, pewter collectibles (again with the Nova Scotia cliches), a few books by local authors, other craft items such as wooden and pewter cheeseboards in all kinds of shapes and sizes, and a lot more.
The staff are friendly enough, they don't seem to interact a lot of their own accord, but if you approach them they're more than happy to give you a hand.
All in all, not a place I'd want to visit all the time, but one that I enjoy the occasional stroll through.Listed in: 30 Days of Yelp!, Great Gifts!

Jennifer's of Nova Scotia is the absolute perfect shop when you're needing a gift for folks "from away". From knitting to Nova Scotia Tartan to stained glass to jewelry to ... well, I think I'm making my point!
Occupying the corner territory of Spring Garden Rd and Dresden Row, Jennifer's overwhelms you with the quantity and quality of their products. Featuring hand-crafted Nova Scotia items, stepping inside is like entering a kaleidoscope - you don't know what to look at first. There's so much to draw the eye; whether your passion is pottery or pewter, you'll find it here.
Shopping at Jennifer's is an experience - be sure to leave yourself enough time to fully browse all the products they have on offer. (The helpful sales staff will hold purchases behind the counter if your arms get too full!) I typically head to Jennifer's a few times a year: it makes Christmas (of course!), birthdays and bridal showers an easy shopping trip.
Jennifer's is quintessentially Nova Scotian. Although there are other stores which specialize in Nova Scotian handicraft, Jennifer's blows them out of the water. (Plus, it's on Spring Garden Rd - the not-quite pedestrian mall of Halifax. Shopping on Spring Garden Rd is delightful no matter the season.) -

I have personally never been to Jennifer's but a really good friend of mine just got back from Nova Scotia and brought me a bag of their sweet, savory salt water taffy! OMG! the real deal. Jennifer's has been making this stuff since 1978. They have approximately 240 artisans who work in house creating everything from pottery to kids clothing ....and did I mention the salt water taffy? These handcrafters are not mass producers and there is not an infinite supply of product so I suggest you jump in a car, plane, train, or grab a team of dogs and MUSH your way to Nova Scotia to get some of the amazing stuff!
THANX Jen! -

OK OK I know - who LIVES in Halifax and actually goes to this place? Not too many of us I'd assume, but to be honest, that it's geared towards tourists isn't a problem for me. I like that there's something not made in China to be found on Spring Garden - home grown, home town proud. The joint is expensive, no doubt - a small pewter bowl was $43 + tax.
Having said that, the customer service was laissez faire and quiet; the NS tartan in abundance and it's quaintness unsurpassed in the HRM. I recommend at least a look. -

Jennifers of Nova Scotia is a very unique store offering many products that really bring out Nova Scotia's culture.
Jennifers are mostly known for their tartan clothing and accessories, their maple products and their selection of pewter ornaments (including sand-dollars, starfish and seagulls). But they also offer an assortment of jellies and spreads, some locally made jewelry, and a wide selection of homemade socks and mittens.
Their prices are quite steep (e.g., $25 for a pair of homemade mittens and $50 for a small clay dragon statue), but the uniqueness of their products and the culture experience itself make it all worth the while, especially when buying a gift for someone away from home... -

Jennifer's is a home décor type shop with a certain Nova Scotia flavour. It offers an inner nest of goodies, from candles to ornaments and local pottery, and emphasizes a tasteful touch for tourists and locals alike.
I found this spot to carry an overall country home esthetic-- its wide range of product all becomes cohesive in a warm, maritime way. And with so much to look at; the store extends to a second room in the back that is just as abundant as the first.
My sister recently purchased a silver cuff bracelet with piano keys engraved around its body. Very different, and very elegant! Jennifer's is a fun place to browse, and the next time I'm in the area I'll gladly pop in for a visit. -

Located on possibly the busiest corner in Halifax (spring garden and dresden row) this little NS themed gift shop certainly gets a ton of sidewalk traffic.
If you have a particularly difficult relative to shop for, this might be a good stop off. With pottery, hand knit gloves, jewelry, post cards and bobbles of every variety, you'll be sure to find something at Jennifer's of NS! -

Let's face it: sometimes you have relatives in town "from away," and sometimes they want to get some sort of souvenir of the place, so sometimes you're going to take them to Jennifer's of Nova Scotia, whether you want to or not.
I only suggest that you wouldn't want to go there because then you'll be forced to face all the craft-y cliches that we try to deny about our local heritage. You know, the tartan, the pewter, the folk art people carvings.
Still, if you look a bit beyond the most cliched handicrafts at Jennifers, you'll find some startling and beautiful artworks hidden among the kitsch. You may even find something for yourself in there, and, hey, you live here. -

Jennifer's of Nova Scotia is Halifax's version of the sketchy stores that sell "I (heart) NY" shirts in NYC, except with a Nova Scotia twist. This twist is mostly the fact that the store is not a hole in the wall and doesn't appear to be operated by unsavory characters.
However, the tacky souvenirs are abundant. I guess Meat Loaf was right, two outta three ain't bad.
Jennifer's is filled with tartan and lobster bibs and silly clothing for babies. Sounds of Nova Scotia CD's, stuffed lobster toys, sou'westers (ask your fishermen friends) and anything else generically Nova Scotian you can think of fill up the store. It's charming I suppose, though not my kind of place.
But of course it's not my kind of place, this is generally for tourists and come-from-aways. If you're visiting and looking for a souvenir, come to Jennifer's. If you're in town for school and looking for Christmas gifts, go to Jennifer's. If you're local, you probably don't need a kitschy reminder of rural life in Nova Scotia because odds are at one time or another you've lived it.
A cute shop and worth a peak, but definitely more suited to tourists to our fair city than residents. -

Right in the middle of the Spring Garden Road Shopping District, and a prime spot to find tourists that want to take a little bit of the Maritimes back home with them.
It's filled with every sort of artisan treasure from handmade scarves from locally produced yarns, to jewellery, glassware and pottery. There are books sharing the history or perhaps you're more inclined to take home a cookbook that will allow you to recreate your foodie experiences.
And, naturally, there are the chotchkes souvenirs to bring back home to those who couldn't join in the fun. -

I had initially walked into Jennifer's in hopes of finding some bakeware. Well, I definitely walked into the wrong store, but I was kind of glad I did. This place is full of old school, hand crafted Nova Scotian novelties. They have everything from hand knitted cloths to baby clothes. It was a very attractive store.
One of my favourite things in this store was the lady bug items. They had pot holders and tea cups peppered with little lady bugs. There were even nice, smooth rocks painted as such. Sadly, for almost $12 per stone, I found it hard to buy. I mean, I could find a smooth stone too and paint it up real nice. Well, maybe not real nice, but I could paint it.
Jennifer's also had a bunch of ceramic china sets. Most of them seemed durable and looked very nice. Each item in this store was personally handcrafted by someone, which means there isn't an abundance of the products. If you see something you really like in this store, you should get it while it's there because the next time you go, it may be gone. -

On my way home from the market this morning, I decided to pop into Jennifer's for the first time. I'm surprised that I've never been into this great shop before!
Firstly, it's far larger than it appears from the outside. The interior is lovely, with large windows and lovely wooden floors. Secondly, there were so many charming things for sale. From beautiful local pottery, to useful cutting boards, to sweet tapestries - Jennifer's seemed to have a little bit of everything.
They have salt water taffy, tons of home décor, as well as anything else characteristically Nova Scotian. This place is the ultimate in supporting your neighborhood artisans and locally made goods.
I think this would be a great store to buy presents or to get some nice new things for your home. I suggest popping into Jennifer's next time you're heading down Spring Garden: it's a lovely store offering merchandise to suit the tastes of many. -

This is a place that if you are visiting to Halifax that is a must and I guarantee that you walk out of Jennifers with something to either take home for yourself or a souvenir.
It is a high end tasteful store that has anything from candles to tea cozies to coaster, window chimes all reflecting the Nova Scotia Tartan.
This is a one of a kind store and if not mistaken the only one in NS. Summer time at Jennifers is very busy so make sure that you get there early or even just walk by and enjoy the great windows as they are always done with a creative flair! -

Jennifer's is the perfect place to pick up gifts for out of town friends and family who think it's cute that you live in Nova Scotia. For the holidays this year I found jams for grandmas, a beautiful ceramic sea urchin bowl for mom, knit mitts and hats for the brother and more. It's great to see all of these local craftspeople profiled here in one place - really shows you how much stuff is being made by the people of this province (even though you know this must barely scratch the surface).
I don't know what the stock rotation is like, as I haven't lived here long enough to notice, but hopefully the move things through fairly frequently for variety. -

This is a great store! Has a lot of souvenirs for people travelling from ouf of town. This store has things like necklaces, earrings, home decor, baby bibs, tshirts, adult clothing, cutlery, etc. Very Nova Scotia country home feel. I love it!
