Review from Larry L.
Whenever I feel that need for Chinese food fixes and I'm in this particular area and don't want to travel anymore than needed (cause I'm lazy or don't have gas for the car). I will come here. The first time I had curry beef and rice with a side of Chinese soup and a diet soda.
Not bad, that first time I was impressed.
The second time, I did take out. It was decent too.
I had the vegetarian spicy tofu with rice and diet soda.
Not bad again.
I've been back once before, so this means, I'll most likely be back again when I get that hankering for this kind of food.
I've always wondered what it would be like at dinner time.

Review from Allen W.
SLOW = 15-20 minutes between *each* dish ordered
We ordered 8 dishes and 1 dessert. The food arrived very slowly and the restaurant was only half full when we placed our orders.
The chiu chow style food wasn't up to snuff per my mother in law (chiu chow born). The duck was cold and drab. The oyster pancake was so salty that none of us could eat it. Fried rice was good but everything seemed hit or miss. However, we managed our way through the other dishes:
Pork stomach soup
Soy duck
Fried rice
Oyster pancake
Ong choi
Sweet/sour pork
Intestines w/tofu
Due to getting slightly full and it taking SO long, we asked to cancel the last dish we had ordered. They informed us that they hadn't even recorded the last dish so it wasn't a problem. Um, ok.
We then asked just to get the dessert ... to which we were told, it would take at least 30 minutes to make and that the chef was really busy making other tables dishes. WTF? Are you kidding me? You knew we had it ordered and it had already been about 15 minutes since receiving the dish which you thought was our last dish ... so why no dessert after being at the restaurant for nearly 2 hours?
However, the host was laying it on thick and smiling, being overly dramatic with his explanations of how labor intensive the taro dessert would be to make, and condescending in his tone. Granted, I rec'd all this info via translation as I don't speak cantonese. But, some things don't need translation.
And at the end of the day, I sum it up like this ... I ate some nasty pork stomach soup because I knew there was a sweet taro dessert at the end of dinner. To reach the end and discover NO dessert because you're unable to manage your kitchen staff and ordering process?
Unforgivable. -

Vancouver, BC
Vancouver has a lot of Chinese foods, but, it only have 1-2 Chui Chow restaurant.
This restaurant located at commercial/industrial area that's not easy to find it. One of my friend recommended us to try it out.
This is very simple and casual restaurant. We got seated right the way when we walked in. We asked for the menu and tried to find some Chui Chow signature dishes, however, we only found 8-10 dishes and no price on the menu.
Well.... We got few things to try:
Whole pepper and pig stomach soup - It's so tasty and realized the soup was made/boiled at least few hours before it served.
Duck in aged sweeten soy sauce - It's good.
Pan fried oyster pan cake - It's delicious and crispy.
Stir fried chicken with pepper leave - It's ok, just a bit oily.
Dessert - Deep fried mash taro with sugar. Just ok.
Overall, the foods were good but no surprise. When we got the bill, we all found was very reasonable. Average cost $14-19 a dish. -

Vancouver, BC
It's billed as a Chiuchow restaurant but it isn't quite up to snuff. I grew up with authentic home cooked and good restaurant quality Chiuchow foods from family gatherings on my mother's side.
We ordered:
- pork stomach with white peppercorn soup
- oyster pancake
- omelette with preserved vegetable
- fried rice with taro and Chinese sausage
- water spinach
- soy duck
- sweet & sour pork
- pork intestine with tofu
- deep fried taro cubes dusted with powdered suger (dessert)
Although we were one of the first few tables seated, it still took at least 15 minutes between dishes. Nobody at our table found the soup spicy enough. Nobody took a second bite of the oyster pancake because it was so salty. Everything else was OK except:
- The omelette never came because it was not written on the order.
- The dessert did not come either because the head waiter only came after realizing the missed omelette and advised us that it would take 30 minutes to make the dessert as the kitchen was overwhelmed with orders. Should the kitchen not have timed our orders. Totally unacceptable.
