Review from Billy L.
Port Coquitlam, BC
When i walked in the door, i noticed that the owner was from a food court restaurant that closed down. Immediately i knew the food didn't deserve a two star review.
Started off with the Gado Gado and the Roti Canai. Both were equally delicious but the Gado Gado was my favorite. The hot tofu mixed with warm peanut sauce makes a perfect medley of flavors.
Deep fried chicken with coconut rice? Yes i like.
Pan fried rice noodle that was spicy and i have no idea what the name is was pretty good as well, a bit spicy for me though.
Hainanese chicken was the same as when they were in the food court, deboned and perfect.
Lunch menus were priced very reasonable, i believed they were 7.99 and it came with coffee.
In terms of the language being spoke, yes she spoke Cantonese. Please see wiki (http://en.wikipedia.or...). "The more common dialects in Peninsular Malaysia are Cantonese, Mandarin, Hokkien, Hakka, Hainanese, and Fuzhou"
In terms of cooking styles, it wasn't on par with some places such as Tropika or Banana Leaf but it was still good and affordable hence my 3 star review.
Worth giving a shot :) -

* Cantonese "Malaysian" *
This is in the location of the old Miki Ramen house (which I am not surprised at all went out of business based upon my single visit there: http://www.yelp.ca/biz...).
Sadly the replacement hasn't done much to up the ante in terms of quality. It is now a Malaysian place. But I use the term loosely because all I heard being spoken was Cantonese.
Hearing the Cantonese I figured the safest bet on the menu would be the Ipoh style Hor Fun, on the off chance that the Cantonese being spoken was being spoken by Cantonese speakers from Ipoh.
Based on my meal, I'm guessing not. The Ipoh Hor Fun was much closer to a Wat Tan Ho. It came in a very goopy eggy starch sauce. Here is what it looked like when served: http://www.yelp.ca/biz... and after digging underneath to find the noodles: http://www.yelp.ca/biz... The shrimp, beef, and mystery meat (couldn't identify what it was) were all severely overcooked to the point of being leather like. Not a nice texture at all. The noodles themselves were the highlight of the dish as they had a bit of wok hei. Overall I was left with feeling the overall dish was rather "meh" though.
So the old restaurant in this location was Chinese people copying Japanese copying Chinese food, and not a successful version. This new restaurant is Cantonese people copying Ipoh people copying Cantonese food, yet again not successful.
I'm sick of all the copying and just want the real thing!Listed in: Vancouver Chinese Food, Vanoodle, Vancouver…
