An absolute awesome place to enjoy all the nice events all along the summers sponsored by the City of Chicago. Have attended some really nice events such as Ballet shows, Bhangra performance, Musicians from Nigeria and so many more. There are ample seating available for the visitors to enjoy the live performances. The event calendar is planned in such a way that they have artists from different countries and regions all across the world.

Thanks to Mayor and the City for organising all those nice events every year.

This place is wonderful. I used to come here nearly every other week with my roommate and a group of friends for the summer concert series. We would pick up wine, cheese, and crackers from the Trader Joe's in River North, then walk a mile down here and lay out a picnic blanket to listen to music and ponder our youth. They really do a good job with the programming, I've heard artists here that are actually on my iTunes as well as relatively famous names in classical music which I'm less familiar with. The venue is beautiful and I give Chicago major props for the summer music scene, and I'm sure that many other people agree with me because the lawn/chairs are always completely crowded.

Can't wait for next summer if I'm still in the city.

The Pritzker Pavilion consists of curving planes of stainless steel resembling the graceful blooming of a flower or the unfurling sails of a massive ship.

It is also the home of Grant Park Music Festival, the the nation's only remaining free, municipally-supported, outdoor, classical music series and designed by legendary architect Frank Gehry, this outdoor performance venue hosts many performances each year, including operas and free concerts.

Fabulous sound system for an outdoor venue. They really knew what they were doing when they constructed this visually appealing structure for sound and aesthetics.

Here's a tip: the bathrooms are to the left of the stage.

Wonderful sound, totally amazing.  I have been there so many times, but today I went to see Josh Berman and His Gang, at 12:00 during my lunch hour.
It was fabulous!  I seriously love the Pritzker Pavilion.

When I read the previews for February's Luminous Field at THE BEAN I thought it was badly timed to bring people to Chicago in the dead of winter for an outdoor event.  I took the chance and was pleasantly surprised.  It was a great show and everyone there seemed to love the colors projected on the ground to reflect on THE BEAN.  Mild temps allowed for us to walk around, watch the skaters and enjoy Millennium Park in the winter.

Wine *check, cheese *check, chairs *check...wine bottle opener...NOoooo.

In a sea of other picnic in the park-ers, I knew finding a friendly wine-er with a bottle opener would be a breeze...and it was.  After settling the cork issue, we were well on our way to getting slizzard to the most sophisticated concert I have ever experienced.  It was my first concert in the park and it was SO amazing.  I was just sad that it was my first but their last of the season.  I can only look forward to next summers series of music in the park.

    So much fun!

    The architecture is just INSPIRED.
I also have to give a huge thank you to all of the sound engineers who make the music sound even more pleasant.

I don't understand people who dismiss this as just another tourist hotspot. It is a wonderful outdoor venue for music, and as someone who has a tiny porch and no garden, I love the Pavilion for some post-work sun, sounds and people watching.

I've seen so many concerts here, under the stars during a sticky summer night. I'm always crossing my fingers to see the lineups for shoes scheduled here!

Tickets CAN be pricey, but its worth it. Bring a blanket, friends and you'll have the best time ever. Bathrooms aren't bad either--which is shocking!

Saw Dispatch and the sound was terrific wherever I walked throughout the area. There was plenty of places to buy beer and there was never a line for any of the bathrooms that I utilized.

My only issue was a complete lack of food vendors. I understand space constraints and the garbage that food creates, but it probably would have cut down on the amount of sloppy drunks stumbling around.

Going to have to knock the Pritzker Pavilion down a notch for shows that you actually want to see the action on stage from the lawn. Previously I've been enamored with the lawn and didn't mind not being able to see the orchestra sawing away during one of many fine Grant Park Music Festival concerts. The sound is excellent from the lawn seating, but you can't see a thing unless you're one of the first two rows of "blankets".

Still last night, Ray LaMontagne and David Gray's music and voices could be heard crystal clearly from the lawn. A few things could be improved for paid concerts though. Seeing bottles upon bottles of wine being confiscated and tossed at the entrance just seems ridiculous. Sure, the production company wants the beer vendors to make money, but carry-in restrictions should be eased up for paid concerts as they are for the free ones.

Add some blue porta potties around the back perimeter. The bathroom lines (esp. for women) were incredibly long. And finally, not to mess with Gehry's architecture, but since they failed to get the sight lines correct for 90% of the lawn, two video screens flanking the stage are sorely needed. Still a big fan of Pritzker, but room for improvement!

Impossible for me to believe that I have not been here before to see an actual concert! Well, I finally had my chance on what had to be one of the most perfect nights in a Chicago summer- low humidity, cool breezes and clear skies.

I was lucky enough to have row 10 pavilion seats in my pocket so know that this review is based on that, so I can only hope the experience is just as good back on the lawn.

The Pritzker has always challenged my sense of what is beautiful as it looks like an exploding Coke can at the end of Millennium Park. But once you are seated within the space, and hear the sound- you know that it is built perfectly for what it needs to do.

The seats are actually spacious with enough leg room for those of us with long legs who usually have to get up to let people pass by. The concessions? They have that down to a small science too. Pay at the front end of the table and show your receipt to pick up your drinks at the other end of the table. Be flexible as they tend to run out of things (on the night I was there- it was beer only as the wine had run out earlier in the evening)

The stars twinkle above, the music plays and in that moment, you revel in the majesty that is Chicago in the Summertime. I don't know how many times we talked about how much we loved the city but everywhere we looked, something more beautiful caught our eye.

If there was any downside (thus the missing star) it was with the restroom situation. The lines were unbelievable and if we hadn't slipped into the unmarked door to the right of the "janitor's closet" (ladies- know that it's the handicapped bathroom) as we waited in a line that wound itself all the way back to the seating area, we would have missed most of the concert. Even the men's room line was long. There has to be a better plan!

So go enjoy a perfect night out in Chicago. But limit your liquid intake. Or you just might find yourself listening to your concert in a line that certainly covers most of Millennium Park.

this venue is absolutely fantastic!  one of my favorite things in the summer is to come listen to the free concerts with a group of friends.  sometimes even if i'm flying solo, i'll stop to relax on the lawn while the orchestra practices or b.b. king sings some serious blues (blues fest circa 2007 i think).  the sound quality is amazing, and the atmosphere is unbeatable.  hands down one of the best things about chicago.

Free concerts in the park at Millennium Park have been a great form of entertainment for me this summer. Dare I say, I like it better than Ravinia because it's free, you can walk there, and there are no mosquitos in the city. Beautiful music under the stars on a hot summer night--it doesn't get any better than this. Great to go with a group of friends or on a date.

Pavilion seating is first come, first served. Music is still impeccable from the lawn. It can get crowded so do try to get there earlier to snag a nice spot on the lawn. Concerts are usually on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday nights. Schedule can be found at: http://www.millenniump...

Bring a blanket, some snacks, and a bottle of wine or two. Park security is cracking down on drunk and disorderly conduct though, so they come around after the concert is over to make sure you don't open any new bottles of alcohol, you're allowed to finish what you already have open.

This place was the setting for a free show with my favorite artist of all time, Andrew Bird. I have never heard music here, but the sound totally blew me away. The night was perfect, almost magical. It felt like a mini Ravinia for sure. It was also super clean, and when I took my daughter to the bathroom it was organized and clean which is amazing for such a large public venue.
    We will definately be back!

This was my first time at Pritzker Pavilion. I had some lovely lawn tickets for the Ray LaMontagne & David Gray concert. It was a beautiful night out...really you could not have asked for better weather but what we all wanted to ask for...was some dang screens!

The lawn area is nice and the sound quality is top notch but if you  think that you'll have any sort of view beyond the first 20 feet of lawn...you will be disappointed. I realize why there (probably) aren't screens but it sure would be nice. We missed all the ridiculous head bobbin that is David Gray. Sigh.

The lines for the bathroom were HORRENDOUS...for both the men & women. Plus, it was really warm down there. Ick. Finally made my way into the ladies room only to find there was no water to wash your hands. Double ick.

I appreciated being able to bring my own eats but beware...most ticketed events are not BYOB. Don't make the mistake that many other patrons made by bringing wine or hard liquor. It will get confiscated and your heart will be broken.

I dug the surroundings and aside from a few hiccups I really enjoyed this venue. This was my first visit, but definitely not my last.

Beautiful music surrounded by a beautiful city? Yes please! I am not sure how it took me years to mosey my way over to this park for an actual evening of music, but I am grateful that I finally did.

There truly is no better way to take in a lovely Chicago night than with your favorite picnic buddy and a bottle of wine. Add some free music to the mix and 8 bazillion of your closest friends, and you've got the Music Monday experience at Millennium Park. Of course it's crowded, it's free (and the night we were there, it was Zooey Deschanel, the apple of everyone's eye, man and woman alike) and it's gorgeous.

While we were unable to cram ourselves on the lawn the evening we ventured over there, we donned an appropriate patch of grass just on the other side of the fence where the listening was just as good, and the views of the stage were just as unattainable.

My only gripe was the people that don't seem to get that it is inappropriate to step ON a picnic blanket (seriously?!)  to cross over to the walkway. Not cool, dudes, not cool at all. However, it's summer in Chicago. I'll let a little rudeness slip away and remember to bring a second bottle of wine next time.

My tips for you to maximize the experience:
-Don't drive. Parking is non-existent or ridiculously expensive over here. (Tons of public transportation options too.)
-Get there as early as you are able.
-Plan ahead. You don't need too much to enjoy yourself, but a blanket, a bottle of wine (transported to a discreet bottle in the event you don't get to sit on the lawn proper) and a well-made sammie go a long way.
-Don't fret the crowds so much. It's free. Deal with it.

Marvelous. THIS is why we live in this city, folks.

Millennium Park had it's great unveiling the first summer that I lived in Chicago. I remember going to check it out and seeing the Pavilion for the first time on a beautiful sunny day with people playing frisbee on the lawn. As a bit of an architecture nerd, and being familiar with Frank Gehry's work, I marveled at the beautiful crisscrossing trellis, the gorgeous wood stage, and the stainless steel ribbons fluttering up into the sky. I thought to myself that this was one of the greatest reasons that I moved to Chicago and I would go see concerts there all the time. Sadly, I did not.

Last night I got my first peek at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion as a concert goer. With a blanket, picnic basket, and good friends, I enjoyed some latin jazz under the luminous cityscape. The sound was impeccable. The view was, well, so-so. The music and crowd were fun. I even got to do a little latin dancing. This was a recipe for a great Chicago evening.

Fellas, take note! A night at the Pritzker Pavilion is a very romanitcal time. Pack a picnic and a blanket and you'll wow your special gal. I promise.

Pritzker Pavilion is so many things in the summer.  It is...

the ideal place to listen to a free evening concert, surrounded by symphonic music, the city skyline, and nighttime stars.

a relaxing spot to have a picnic while watching children gleefully dance and play.

a unique work of architecture to interact with in downtown Chicago.

The first time I was here was for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, which was great, my peeps and I brought wine, snackies, etc. I was here for the second time last night for the Death Cab show with the lovely Paige. The concert was great. Sound amazing.  I wish I had brought picnicy (it's a word) items for the DCFC, but I had never been there for a "rock" show, so I skipped it. As a local it's easy to forget how amazing our city/lakefront is. This is a great reminder.

Ps- The beer vendors were selling until almost the last song. Big plus for this girl

Free show, free show, free show and for once someone is not chanting how I've managed to accidentally expose myself.

Living in the city can be so harsh on the pocketbook.  It's nice that I can grab some culture at the expense my taxpaying dollars.  I like the casualness of sitting on the lawn, sipping on my "non-alcoholic" fermented grape juice.  "Why no officer, this is just an innocent bottle of juice or sodey pop."

This is also a nice place to bring out of town guests so you can show them what Chicago is really like and what a typical day is like for you.  Oh yes, I'm very culturally involved.  Plus walking by those spitting towers never fails to amuse me.

It has taken me a bit of time to warm up to this structure, now that I have, I think it is pretty funky & cool.  It is a very striking part of Millennium Park--it intrigues you, you have to get closer to it to see what it is all about.

Listening to music on the lawn is a treat--mind you, you will not see the performers as the stage is a bit away.  You can relax on a blanket or chair, bring some beverages & snacks and just enjoy the show.  It is a nice place to sit even if there is no music--perhaps over your lunch break you can go & read.

Now it loses 1 star only based on the fact that I did not see a show here. I was walking around the Millennium Park area with my brother, when we came across this amazing structure. Very cool looking, and we had hoped they had a show there, while we were in town, but they did not. We sat in front of the stage and enjoyed our lunch, while people watching.

Later that night, while walking around the area again, we walked by this Pavilion, and they light it up so nicely, that it was worth taking a picture of it. If you are in Chicago, try to check out a show here.

Jay Pritzker Pavillion is an awesome venue. I have been here for jazz shows, classical music concerts, the ballet, and rock concerts. And each time it has been absolutely enjoyable.

You'd think that an outdoor venue would have horrible acoustics, but the Pritzker Pavillion has a great sound system. The seats aren't particularly comfortable, but you do get to be closer to the stage. The lawn area is nice if you bring a blanket to sit on. You might as well make it a picnic and bring some food and wine along. If you go for a dance event, you can't see the stage very well from the lawn seats, but they have big screens set up for you to see what's going on. Lastly, the night view of the skyline is absolutely breathtaking.

Oh, and the lattice work takes some pretty sweet photos.

Now officially my front yard! (I live across the street).   I can't think of too many other public spaces in the US that have such an amazing character, interfacing the rows of classic Chicago architecture with the modern sheen of contemporary sculpture and modernism.  The Grant Park Orchestra's summer season is twice as diverse and interesting as the CSO or Ravinia, making those long trips north to Ravinia to sit on the lawn with no distinctive views and poor speakers with traditional music unnecessary.   Also may other public concerts with pop and world music this summer, making it almost a concert every night.  Last year was overcrowded but this year the crowds have backed off, making it the perfect experience to lay on the grass in the middle of an urban center and enjoy the sensuality of the surroundings and the music.  And forget that underneath is a garage and train tracks.

Amazing creation of Frank Gehry. I could not imagine millennium park without this pavilion. It joins the park space with the building space. And though the materials are very cold and modern, they match Chicago's style very well. Being here feels like you are in the oasis of the modern world.

Also, the events that take place here are amazing. The acoustics are perfect when you sit in the middle of red area. What is even better, that usually the concerts are free and you can even come here in the middle of the day to watch rehearsals and see orchestras preparing.

I needed something phenomenal to celebrate my 200th review. So I asked myself, I said: "Self. what's the biggest and best thing you've done in the past year in the city?"  And the answer was the free Andrew Bird concert at Millennium Park in the Pritzker Pavilion, which actually took place in the summer of 2008. And it was free! As are so many events and concerts here. How great is that?

Summer for me used to mean Ravinia, but Millennium Park has spoiled me. Easier access, no shuttle buses/parking, no hordes of people squeezing through small gates, just this open-air work of art and architecture and nature, which you can access on foot, and not have to pay $22.00 to sit on the lawn. And you may be sharing space with the homeless, the downtown high-rise crowd, suburbanites, young and old, professors and ribbon clerks - anyone and everyone.

The Pavilion, where I've been privileged to see and hear Andrew B, a taping of "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me", numerous classical and jazz concerts, and across the street at the Petrillo Band Shell, which features all the free music festivals, and all of the other attractions of Millennium and Grant Park, have to be the best collective and ongoing freebie in the city, and possibly the country. Taking advantage of them makes you forget for awhile the taxes, Laz Parking, mercenary and unwarranted ticketing, the embarrassing politics, and some other punitive aspects of big city living. But we are by nature (and weather) a place of extremes. And the positive and generous excitement produced by a place like Priztker and Millenium Park is something there for all of us. A most democratic and accessible wonder.

Today I had the distinct pleasure of hearing the Dalai Lama speak at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion and I was very very impressed, not only with the Dalai Lama himself, but with the venue!

The sound was flawless and the grass green and lush.  I'm really eager to come back for a concert, and I plan on being here every Saturday for the free yoga/Pilate's/dance classes!

On an absolutely shocking and surprising note:  the bathrooms were CLEAN!  Very clean at that.  Sparkly clean, without the faintest hint of the stale bathroom stench clinging to the walls.

When I used to work downtown (10 min. walk to Pritzker) I'd come here all the time for lunch on a summer afternoon. I'd find a little block to nap on in the garden area. Nothing like sleeping under the warm sun on a beautiful day.

From this vantage point, the city looks peaceful yet strong as the skyscrapers glitter in the sunlight. I give 4 stars alone just for the ambiance.

Listening to the orchestra play on a summer night makes me feel all warm and gitty. I haven't been to many, but hope to catch some events this summer. Bringing along all the bare necessities for a summer night picnic.

Oh deconstructionism, how I love to sit under thee. I love that he made it asymmetrical...who does that? Mr. Gehry does.

The sound in this place is great and it seems like it shouldn't be because it's so wide open. But even way in the back, it's full sound. This is like Ravinia without the mile hikes, bad location and long waits.

This review is a little late, but whatever.

I've been to two shows here - Wilco and Andrew Bird.

All I can say is, both were incredible, and it's not just because both always put on a great show. Of course that's part of it, but the venue has a lot to do with it.

For Wilco, we were on the lawn. It was hands-down the best Wilco show I've ever been to. The sound quality was perfect, even though we weren't in the pavilion. They have these interesting speakers that go over your head, out across the lawn, unlike most outdoor arenas.

The best part of all? When the sun goes down, this amazing city's skyline is your backdrop! Does it get better than that?

Andrew Bird was awesome as usual - and to boot, the show was free and on my birthday. Again, excellent sound quality, beautiful city.

I am a little mad at myself for not going to more shows there. I will work on it in the future.

Saw an amazing Death Cab for Cutie show here last night, and confirmed that the sound is great even when you're sitting in the back 1/3 of the lawn area. Minus one star because there was no hope of being able to see at all, due to the fact that the lawn is not sloped nearly enough. Even my tall friends could not see. However, it was kind of cool because everyone on the lawn eventually figured out you couldn't see, and sat down again, and the whole thing was very chill and laid-back.

For less than the price of a CD, we each got an hour and a half of live music while laying on our picnic blanket watching the fog roll in over the city and staring up at the skyline. Fantastic experience. And, as someone who attended the ridiculously overcrowded Decemberists show for free, I was glad they sold tickets to this one, which kept the back of the lawn nice and roomy and relaxed.

I've seen other free music here, like the symphony orchestra, and it's just an all-around amazing venue.

Central Park needs one of these. You can find lawn anywhere, but outdoor concert venues with good acoustics are few and rare. And the free rehearsal concerts are great for lunchtime picnickers.

Really amazing.  The sound is great, there's plenty of space.  They bring great concerts here, big names, small names, locals.  Its very relaxed and you can definitely have a conversation too.  Finally its BYOB!

Had a beautiful opening night to the Grant Park Music Festival last night. The lawn at the Pritzker Pavilion is a great place for music, socializing, a bottle of wine, some snacks, and it's easier to get back and forth then Ravinia. Plus - IT'S FREE! I'm a Ravinia junkie from way back, and the hubby and I have been a little more than bummed at the direction our beloved Festival has gone this year. Very expensive lawn tickets, and not enough classical or jazz shows. Ramsey Lewis for 27 bucks? Ouch. The Pritzker Pavilion lawn is considerably smaller, but the sound is lush and the view of the city...well...come on, it's spectacular.

Wish it was a little easier to navigate (as far as getting to the potty) and the lawn isn't treated with bug stuff like Ravinia, that I could tell anyway, but beyond that, it's a great, cheap evening out.

Architecture buffs, Music freaks, and winos unite!
Most concerts are byob and the the pavillion boasts the most stellar sound system I've ever heard. There is Bike Parking on all sides of the park. Beware douchy security that will speed up to you on their mall cop segways  to ask you to get off your bike and walk it through the park. Bikes are not allowed on the grass- even walking.

Although I think this is a beautiful outdoor venue located in the beautiful downtown area.  My first free concert experience there left a sour taste in my mouth...this had nothing to do with the show/venue/sound, i was extremely happy with all of this..it is the staff and the way people run this place that left me very disappointed.

they broke every rule in the book at last nights she & him concert and there were tons of safety hazards at the event..more particularly in the front seating area. If the signs clearly state that absolutely no person can stand in the aisles...why was this not being enforced at all? people were all over the place..and kept piling in..should there not be a way to limit how many people enter that area given its a free show where thousands will attend? This poses for a very dangerous situation if not controlled properly, which what seemed like the only 3 security guards staffed had zero control over.  Considering the amount of people who will attend a free show surely a system should be developed to not allow the seating area to be overfilled with bodies...maybe having more than 3 incompetent security guards trying to control hundreds of people would be a good start?

Also..where on earth are the accommodations for the handicapped?  I notice here on yelp it says wheelchair accessible..really?  Then why the heck did the family with the handicapped kid get told by security that they could go up front with him for safety and a better view only to be placed in harms way by the dozens of selfish and disrespectful idiots up there who all but fell on top of him?  i feared for the safety of the boy myself and all because he wanted to catch a glimpse of his favorite band..which didn't happen, and his parents were forced to leave as all security could say was "There's nothing we can do"...good job 'accommodating' for people on wheelchairs, park staff.

Its sad that such a beautiful park seemed to be run by people who were not prepared to handle the amount of people attending this event...I personally would not want to go here again for a known act..maybe the experience in the lawn is a different one..but in the "seating area" everything is just a mess and its pretty sad.
