The whole place is pretty eccentric, including the woman who runs the place.
When you walk in, it looks more like a vintage shop than a cafe because there is no indication that it is a cafe aside from its name. Simply look inquiringly at the woman who runs the place and she will ask you a series of questions to determine what type of beverage you'd like. She'll probably give you a choice (a coffee versus a latte) and insist that the more expensive drink is really the better choice.
Once you get your drink, you may sit anywhere you'd like, but you won't really feel like you're in a coffee shop. At least I didn't. I felt more like I was sitting in this woman's living room and thought it was a bit odd that I'd be sitting in her living room and not talking to her, so I settled in the back by her coffee roaster and had a good chat. She has a friendly dog named Buddy who, uh, really liked me.
If you want a coffee, this place is as good as any. It's not really professionally made but more homemade (see above) and she made a point of mentioning "fair trade" and "organic."
Either way, the place is sunny and kitsch, a bit like her, a bit like me. -

Charming cafe in Seaton Village. I'd call it the anti-Starbucks; you'll feel like you're in your aunt's living room. The decor is sprawling and confusing and for a moment I was unsure just where I was. I ended up spending almost THREE hours here chatting with with the outgoing owner, chilling with her dog, and reading in a cozy rocking chair. Feels like home. All the coffee is fair-trade, and reasonably priced.
Obligatory Title Pun: MAMA, I'm coming home.
Menu Readability: None to be found! I simply asked for a latte and got one.
Need to mention: This place has more Vanity Fair mags than I have ever seen in my life.
What this place teaches me about myself: With a bit of caffeine, I can get a lot of reading done.Listed in: Top Coffee Shops
