I stopped with Java U with my SO for a caffeniated beverage on our wait to dinner in Montreal.  The cafe was very modern and open.  It was nice to see a non-chain coffee place on Sherbrooke.  We were pleasantly surprised that they had a full menu of food along side their beverage list.

We decided to get an italian soda vs. coffee and it was well made.  There was ample seating with comfy bench couches you could relax at.  This location looks like a McGill university hang-out as there were a few students with their laptops working away.

I found out they have other Java U locations in the city, I will definitely keep an eye out for one in the future whenever I am in Montreal.

The coffee is decent, but anything beyond a cup o' jo is overpriced. The service was mediocre: even though we were having our coffee there, they gave us disposable styrofoam cups. It was nice to see a full food menu, though. The decor is pretentious, with bad acoustics and loud '80s rock pumped in from a radio (at least get your own music!). The crowd is young, very young student, so expect a lot of conversations about how much your neighbor didn't study last night; and if you are trying to get work done yourself, pick a more tranquil venue.
With so much space, they could easily have made a more active front and a quieter back space.
With all the other cafes to try in Montreal, I'll not be coming back.

This place is nice and cozy. Student-y and busy. Yummy food - salads are great! Delicious lattes. Haven't yet tried the fries, but they look good. Good service. Good location. Check it out.

wonderful experience ! Coffee is great. Would love to go back for the almond croissants ...! Also the cuban sandwich was nice and hot ! They have a good selection of sandwiches and pastries anytime of the day.
