This noodle house was suggested to me by Jacqueline S. as a cheap and low-key dinner option in the Oliver neighborhood.  Sure enough, I came here on a weekday evening and thoroughly enjoyed my meal here.  It's a fusion-style Asian restaurant with a focus on Vietnamese and Japanese cuisine (even though Vietnam and Japan are separated by a small piece of land called China).

The food is honest to good, home style.  I had the stir-fry noodle bowl with pork chops and it was sooo delicious for an evening meal.  Flavorful, not spicy, the pork was tasty.  Since the stir-fry noodle was so cheap ($8 or so), greed got the better of me and I got a side of tempura.  The tempura was certainly something that stood out for me.  Deep-fried pieces of small veggies and some shrimp.  It was again different from a traditional Japanese restaurant, in that the pieces of vegetables were smaller and so more variety was there.

I was the only patron who was sitting at the restaurant but I noticed that many people came here to pick up to go orders.  It seems like a small little neighborhood favorite for people looking for Asian take-out on a Wednesday night.  I would come here again, when I'm in that part of town on a weeknight.  A special mention to the guy who runs the place.  He's such a nice person and a great conversationalist.

Me and a friend stopped by recently with the intention of trying out something more authentic than a Japanese chain restaurant would offer. We didn't find that here.

When we arrived, we were the only clients in the restaurant and we ordered a sushi roll called 'rock star', shrimp salad rolls, California roll, and some a small platter of assorted sashimi. The rock-star roll had avocado, cucumber, shrimp tempura, and spicy salmon on top. I felt that the spicy salmon overwhelmed the other flavors. I couldn't even taste the shrimp or the avocado in the sushi. The California roll was OK, yet nothing that beats the ones you could find in a supermarket. Salad rolls had too much lettuce and three small pieces of shrimp, the ones I usually get at T&T supermarket where better. In my experience, what I enjoyed the most was the sashimi, but not enough to make me want to come back to dine here.

The wait time was OK considering we were the only ones there. Yet the service left much to be desired. We were never offered any refills on our drinks. I asked the waitress what type of milk did their iced coffee have and when she said condensed, I told her never mind.  Yet about 15 minutes after the fact, she brought the coffee anyway.

There was some reconstruction going on around the restaurant and I needed to use the wash-rooms. These where in a very bad condition, the bathroom stalls didn't even have a lock on them, and lacking toilet paper as well.

Overall, considering the experience I believe I would have gotten more bang for my buck at another restaurant such as Maki Maki.

    Best Regards.

I go to this place semi-regularly, and I get take out even more often. It's never really very busy, hidden just off Jasper ave, and my food is always ready before they say it will be. I used to live right across the street and so I'm a little sad that they didn't open until after I moved.

Anyways. The food here is pretty good. They have yam tempura rolls, which I am in love with. And spicy salmon. They've recently expanded the menu to have a bunch of Vietnamese food too. I mostly still get sushi or the bento box, but my one experience with the noodle bowl was pretty good. If I'm going for sushi or pho, I probably wouldn't specifically come here, but it's good food with an even better location so I can't complain.

They put pork in the spring rolls though, if that matters to you.
