We really wanted to try this place because I was looking for authentic Bibimbap. I am not even sure what the name of the dish my husband had but it was some kind of BBQ beef with red sauce. He said it was really good. I liked the bibimbap a lot. I am not a big fan of kimchi because it seems to always be too spicy but we liked what was served to us.

It was a little bit on the pricey side in my opinion but we will go back. I really liked the decor and ambiance and the server and cashier were very nice. We went for dinner around 3pm or thereabouts so there wasn't a wait for a table. It was a little on the loud side but I find that to be normal anywhere we eat in Richmond. =D

Decided to give this a place a go and see if their hot pot is

Parking is decent thanks to plenty of parking along the side and in a large lot in the back.

The place was actually pretty deserted.  The dining room was literally empty.  Oh wow.  On the other side though, I could hear voices in the lounge area.  Inside is an oldschool projector playing Korean music videos.

My friend and I had the Gam Ja Tahng (pork bone hot pot).  This was pretty typical, with large pieces of random pig bits (spine?).  We requested that the dish be made spicy, and they achieved that by sprinkling shredded jalapenos over the whole dish.  Awesomeness.

Service was slow, and the waitress wasn't too friendly.  Maybe she gets hit on a lot or something.

The liquor selection was quite hurting.  They sold cheapo stuff like Canadian and Kokanee, but the most Asian beer they had was Tsingtao, which isn't even Korean.  (it's Chinese)  So we went thirsty.

Ah!!! There were so long queues outside every restaurant in richmond alexandra road. Atleast a wait of half an hour. As we were so hungry, got to select this place as it had BBQ on their logo thinking that we would get atleast some better food.

The first impression was so bad with me. Though we were waiting for a table, they had allocated first to some other people who came later to us.( for sure they didn't reserve it prior to their arrival).

Finally got a table, and we ordered few dishes from Ala carte like Squid, chicken wings, rice and few others.
Chicken wings were not bad. ( the only thing I liked) .
    The squid curry was terrible.

    Overall :
    Cons:
Bad service. No proper interaction. They don't really respond to the call bell that is on the table.
They just left us with chop sticks without even asking if we needed some forks and knives. And when we asked for it, it took ages for them to get to the table.
Food was not worth the price.
    Washrooms were not clean either.

    Pros:
    The eating place was comfortable.
    Chicken wings. Rice.

For sure, I would not choose this place again at any cost.

    Yelp's 30 day challenge - 7/30.

Jang Mo Jib wasn't what we thought it was.

I had known the history of the building and the previous tenants and it didn't seem to do well for me when we decided to come and try this place out.  I was already pre-judging it would be a 1 star experience.

However in the present, this place was surprising in a positive way.

I'm glad to say that the present occupies something very different and better than what I had anticipated.

It was relatively clean, the place isn't a BBQ place but has a larger variety of hot pots and prepared BBQ style foods for you to enjoy.

At first you may think it's rather pricey, but there is quite a bit of food so be carefull you don't over order.

You hear stories good and bad and really, you've got to come and try it yourself to decide.

I won't give it 5 stars, that would honestly be too generous.
The seat next to us still had food on it, but other than that, it was pretty clean and the service was good until they got hyper busy.

So come early for dinner @ 5 to 5:30 and you'll get a decent parking spot and service and food.  Come on a Saturday night after 6 and, expect to wait.

Note: parking stalls between the trees is for two cars to fit inside.

Note: Very few Koreans were dining here tonight (Saturday night) which lead me to think,  Is it really that good?  I guess so?
There were alot of other Asians who seemed to like the food.

I haven't had Korean food in awhile and my cousin and her boyfriend brought me here. We had some sort of spicy pork rib soup and wow was it a treat! Food came super quick and the service was alright. The only problem with most korean places and this may be one of the worst i've ever experienced is the service bell. It was CONSTANT and it wasn't a short bell, it was a LONG ASS SONG every time someone pressed it.

Next time i'm going to have the korean bbq and wear headphones while i munch down.

I love Korean Food. We always drive by this place on Alexandra (Richmond's best food street, by the way) and it always calls me back.

The portions here are huge. We commonly have to force ourselves to finish everything we get here.We decided to order the normal things, the spicy chicken, bbq squid, and the hot pot. The food is outstanding! I sometimes joke that I could soak rice in the spicy sauce on the bbq squid and live with just that for the rest of my life! That aside, the rest of our meal was fantastic. Their small side dishes (kim chi, turnips, potatoes...etc) are great but they don't bring enough! This is always a must for me because I have been known to eat quite a bit of kim chi!

Overall, the food compensates for the downright horrible service here. If you come here, make sure that the hostess and servers remember to seat you! There have been enough times where they forget and seat people that came quite a bit after you...just because they forgot. No apologies, just a 'we will get you in soon'.. Oh well, I'll forget this because the food is some of my favourite!

Service here is usually terrible. They usually lack servers and are slow to respond. Their call bell system is flawed, because they don't answer them! :( Do not eat here if you are in a rush!

I usually order R2, the stone bowl, with the spicy sauce on the side.
They also have good cold spicy noodles. Although I see most people order this, I would NOT order their large soups ever again (about $30), the meat in it tends to get overcooked, and the broth is really nothing special....

My wife and I had another craving for Korean food and we were not disappointed. Sure it's a little bit loud and the service is a little bit different from Western restaurant style service but the food is amazing.
So good that it deserves upgrade 5 stars.

Come here if you like the taste of condescension.

The first time I came here I would have given Jang Mo Jib 4 stars.  I'd been to the Robson location as well as the Alexandra Rd. one and found their food is very delicious, really something that is still difficult to find in Vancouver for Korean food (authentic + tasty).

But a visit to Jang Mo Jib last night left a bitter taste in my mouth.  I was here for a birthday party and the 10 of us devoured our first round of tasty food and decided to order more.  Their LA-style gal bi was delicious so we eagerly got another order of that - so imagine our surprise when we got bulgogi instead.

I know bulgogi is still beef and it's still good, but it wasn't what we wanted.  We flagged down a waitress and told her about the mistake.  Another waiter came back later and asked who was the waitress that took the order...that waitress came out later and essentially bullied us into taking the bulgogi.  She refused to listen to us when we said we distinctly remember ordering galbi and instead insisted that we had ordered bulgogi.  It was obvious that she didn't think it possible that she could have possibly pressed "B3" into the ordering device instead of "B2."

My friend (the birthday boy) decided that bulgogi was better than running the risk of them spitting in our food or something else awful so he just kind of gave up.  But really, you're accusing us of not knowing what we ordered (or how to read "short-ribs")?  Plus it's not like we were trying to get out of paying for something - the galbi is a more expensive dish!  We just want what we ordered.

I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone anymore, unless you enjoy being bullied into eating something that you didn't order.

Wow this is NOTHING like the Jang Mo Jib downtown Vancouver.  The place is huge and the portions are huge!!  BEWARE - THE PORTIONS ARE GIGANTIC.

We ordered way too much for 4 people.

We had the Kam Ja Tang (pork bone hot pot), Jap Chae and the seafood omelette and I think we packed half of it to go.  The food came quick and everything was delicious.  Maybe it's because I haven't had Korean food for a while.  But we all enjoyed our dinner very much.

The service was not so good though - there's a nifty button on your table that you can press to get the server's attention.  Asking them to bring extra spoons and utensils and takeout boxes took a while.  But all in all, a great meal!

Been here a couple of times now. Mouth-watering Korean-style BBQ beef short ribs? Check. Good for groups? Yup. Noisy? Well, yeah. Chopsticks are more delicate and slippery than the norm, and service can be on the slow side, but the food does not disappoint.

First time we came to Aberdeen Mall we at here in the food court. Apparently they have more than one locations which means their food has to be good and it was! Cheap, fast and delicious Korean food.

Portions are huge! I felt like having Jap Chae and they had Jap Chae by itself, full portion for about $10 I think? and then they have the half portion of Jap Chae w/steam rice for $5.95 so I opted for that and thank gawd I did because even the half portion was very filling.

Food is absolutely DELICIOUS!! The service was alright. They took the orders and left and rarely came back to do any water or tea refills.

Since I was here with family and we were all busy talking, I didn't realize how much food we ordered. But everything was absolutely delicious. We had bbq items as well as the bibimbap and tofu soup. The bibimbap could have been better, there was not that much meat in it.

Just to reiterate, the food is freaking DELICIOUS!

I have been here several times, and more recently, brought my parents here to try Korean food for the first time. This place, although a little on the pricier side, is well worth a visit. The experience turned them into Korean food fans! The food is very tasty and plentiful, and the service is friendly. The environment is large and open, yet somewhat cozy. I recommend the BBQ pork dish, along with the steamed dumplings and seafood pancake. Their noodle soups are also worth a try.

The food is quite good at Jang Mo Jib,but the price is a little too high for some of their dishes.  The service is alright 6 out of 10.  Good side: they have huge parking lot for customer!
