We stumbled on this place for our New Years celebration and were delighted, a huge selection of choices and we could actually find something to eat on our GAPS diet. The sauces were tasty and the service was great.
I really liked the atmosphere as well. It was kind of like a diner, very comfortable dining experience. -

Have you ever gone to the bathroom at a restaurant and as you were washing your hands, someone in their restaurant uniform exits the other stall and the bathroom without washing their hands?

Average service, boring decor, but great food.
I feel kinda sad for this branch because it is so quiet if it is not either dinner or lunch time. This branch will close soon if not a lot of people are going. I do enjoy a nice Korean restuarant in the Metro South Burnaby area so I can go drop by with friends.
The good thing about this place is the food. Their hot pots is what I die for here... It is so traditional Korean like. I give them a good thumbs up for food. Not a lot of people know but for sure the Hot Pots are the best here!! I don't like their separate dishes here because they are pricey and not appealing to me at all.
Their decor here is just UGH. Yes your Murals of paint brush horses, and traditional murals of gardens of Korea is just so bland. Sorry, they are not murals, they are just wall paper.... Dislike. On top of that this place used to be a Knight and Day, they kept most of the seats and the placement. It is just horrendous...
The service here is sub par. The waiter was very nice with us, as he was trying to communicate, but his English was just not up to par. We barely understood him, but he kinda knew what we were ordering, which was a good thing.
Me and friends had a great time, but will only come back maybe for the food and the hot pots, but maybe not for anything else... -

I found this restaurant the food quality and taste much better than Richmond. However, the service was slow.
We liked the Kim Chi Beef & tofu pot, it's tasty and not too spicy. Also, BBQ beef ribs was so tender and juicy. -

Sorry I prefer other Korean restaurants in Burnaby. Was not impressed with their service and food was just OK. I have definitely had better Korean foods.
The lady who took my order may have been super senior or the owner's wife as she is bossy and not friendly. First, she wouldn't let us change seat when I explained that the location is not comfortable. But she was like there is only 2 of you and the table is saved for bigger groups of 4 ppl.
Second, she took our order and failed to repeat the order. When the food came, she ordered 2 of the same beef dishes for us rather than just 1. So in total, we had 3 dishes. The worst part was she insisted that we made an ordering mistake and wanted us to eat and pay for both beef dishes. There is only 2 of us, we are both girls...why would we have ordered 3 beef dishes and how can we finish it? The husband owner showed up and graciously took the extra beef dish away.
It's sad when customer service is not valued in a restaurant, especially when there are so many better Korean restaurants in the area.
Truly, apart from the poor service, the food would not have attracted me back. I would send my friends to other Korean restaurants on Kingsway or further down on Imperial Street.
Not going back to this place. -

1 star for the convenient location and the fact that I had no problems finding a parking spot. -

I don't really feel the last reviewer gave this place fair treatment. Does it have the same ambience as the other restaurants? No, but it's also got parking and is less likely to be full given its size.
The food is identical to the other locations.
My only complaint is with the menu. Seeing the "Korean people are subservient to the Mongol" people written in the introductory paragraph explaining Korea on the back page was one of the highlights of a trip to Jang Mo Jib for me.
None of that here. The Jang Mo Jib near Metrotown does to Korean food what Ihop did to the traditional small scale diner. -

Th reason for this review is this: every time I go out for Korean food, i always order the same dish; the potato noodles with beef broth (something like that). This dish is super yummy...or at least thats how it is at OTHER Korean restaurants. I was not impressed at all. The broth was over cooked and tasteless. I was drinking cloudy, grey, tasteless soup with 2-3 small bite size pieces of beef. The lady grabbed two bowls off her counter, one containing salt and the other chopped green onions. Apparently I had to put my own green onions and salt in the soup! The chopped onions were drying out.... and when I was leaving, I saw her put it back on the counter... I think it is against Food Safe standards to re serve something that has been on another customer's table (because you never know what the customer will do to the food!) The sitting area was not as clean either. The service was average. I am not asking this Korean restaurant to make me authentic Italian pasta or anything like that. I am just asking for a commonly ordered (and on their menu) bowl of noodles. I don't understand how I got THAT instead.
I don't recommend this place at all.... if you go there, its at your own discretion!Listed in: Places You Want to Avoid! (if…

Review from Barry Y.
Coquitlam, BC
This is our second visit to Burnaby location of Jang Mo Jib simply because the first one was so good. We drove in from Coquitlam to have dinner with the family again for the second time arriving at the restaurant right around 6:00pm. The restaurant was busy but not full....perhaps 50-60% capacity.
We ordered Gahl Bee Jjim, Bool Go Gee and Ssuk Uh Soon Doo Boo which was more than enough for the 4 of us. Others who ordered after us were getting their meals served before us which irked me a bit.....expected. After about 20 minutes, they served us Ssuk Uh Soon Doo Boo (tofu soup pot) followed with the Korean appetizers. Shortly after, the Bool Go Gee arrived. We all dug in and started to enjoy our meal. I realized our Gahl Bee Jjim (hotpot) had not arrived. I flagged down a waiter and was told they forgot and they'll bring it right away. Right away does not mean right away - it took them 10 minutes to gather the raw ingredients together for our hot pot. Since we were so probably half way through our meal you can understand I was not a happy camper. Because of tonight's experience I will not be making a trip from Coquitlam to Burnaby for Korean food anytime soon!
The food was awesome despite them forgetting our hot pot. I definitely thought the service could've have been better. Waiters and waitresses were not attentive!
The ambience is nice and suits the restaurant. Booth seats are size to smaller sized bodies. Ventilation is not very good in the restaurant. They opened the front door of the restaurant to help air out the restaurant. The breeze was COLD! -

This one is located at the old "Knight & Day" out past Metrotown. It doesn't even feel like any of their other locations throughout the lower mainland. Not the best out of the locations they have either, go to the others if you have a chance. If you want affordable, and cheap, I can say that it is, just don't expect to be wowed. When you walk in, it doesn't even feel like a Korean restaurant.
