Chinese dinner for one #6: sweet & sour pork, beef chop suey (vegetables) and pork fried rice all for $8.95!

I'm a breakfast kind of lady, I like to think I'm a breakfast connoisseur.
This comes with the knowledge that sometimes a fairly priced breakfast can cancel out the fact that it is subpar. In this case that happened. I've been here previously and wasn't blown away by their breakfast, but it is cheap (see how that works?) I'm not a huge fan I their potato styling, I prefer my hash browns shredded.
We can't have it all and this certainly did the job of feeding my belly and keeping my spending in check. -

Call me crazy, but I'm normally a little sceptical about restaurants that have signs saying they serve Chinese and Canadian food. I don't know what it is, but for some reason that screams "AVOID" to me. Well, the morning after a crazy night on the town, when I'm achin' for someone to cook me a greasy spoon breakfast, my scepticism flies out the window. I just want cheap food, and fast!
Enter Jane's.
For a ridiculously inexpensive $3.95, you can get a solid breakfast consisting of eggs, hash browns, toast and a meat item of your choice. I don't even think you could cook that at home for under $3.95! To top it off, they are very fast; you can usually be in and out within a half hour, which is great for those hungover mornings where you want to keep your public interaction to a minimum.
Now, the food may not be knock-your-socks-off tasty, but it's at least comparable to what you'd likely get if you dragged your butt out of bed and cooked for yourself. It's not worth driving to if you're not in the area, but it sure is a solid option for the North Burnaby posse.Listed in: So you're poor? Fret no more!

This place is great if all you want is a cheap breakfast and you're sick of Bon's Off Broadway.
They proudly post a page from the local newspaper rating them as the best chinese food in the area, but i wouldn't put a ton of stock in that rating... -

***Update January 30, 2010*** Jane's has raised the price of their breakfast by $1 making it $3.95...when the heck did this happen?***
I will admit this is not a fancy schmancy place but you get good food at a good price. The cafe is LEGENDARY for its $2.95 breakfast (two eggs, toast, choice of meat (ham, bacon or sausage) and hash browns. The price, as of now, has increased to $3.50 but it's still the most popular dish at this spot.
Janes has a wide selection of breakfast, lunch and dinner items at reasonable prices. My item of choice for breakfast is the Denver Omelette but you can have French Toast or pancakes as well. For lunch or dinner, there are burgers, sandwich platters, steak dishes, pork chops, various soups and even Chinese items.
It's a great place and Janes breakfast special lasts until 3 pm (I believe). The service is great...you get greeted the moment you enter the door and seat yourself. I highly recommend it. -

Visiting from out of town and went with some friends who are locals. When he owner greeted my friends by name and I knew I was in good hands. I got the breakfast special for $3.95 which was pretty good. The hash-browns were a little under done, which I was told is not usually a problem. If I lived in the Vancouver area I would probably be a regular here too.

$3.95 Breakfast till 4PM! What more do you want??? I have ate here over 10 times and am always satisfied. The staff is not too talkative, but have a friendly smile. I only eat the breakfast here, the other food is extremely greasy!
