Review from Adam S.
This review is actually for the Jane's satellite shop at the Discovery Centre on Barrington. It's very similar to Jane's Next Door, but with a smaller selection of goods.
This location is perfect for the downtown work crowd and, smaller selection or not, it's still my favourite destination for lunch. The sandwiches are great (in particular, I love the turkey) and are served on great sourdough or whole wheat breads from Julien's bakery. It's also a great spot to get a bowl of soup with a to-die-for biscuit. Earlier today, I had a bowl of the Thai carrot and ginger. Loved every spoonful. Not to mention every bite of the soup-drenched biscuit.
I'm also a big fan of the citrus iced tea. It has a very subtle "tea" flavour, but gets a lot of bunch from orange and lemon juices. Very bright summery drink that goes perfectly with a sandwich.
The cookies are probably not for everyone. Most of time that I've had them, they've been very crispy (though certainly not overcooked). Still tasty, but I don't think they'd be huge crowd-pleasers.
The space itself is definitely small and I've heard it can get busy around the lunch hour. Since there's limited seating, I usually head down around 11:45, buy my goods, and head back to my office to make all of my co-workers very jealous.
The prices aren't unreasonable - around $7 for a sandwich and under $5 for a bowl of soup and a biscuit. They also have a selection of desserts (lemon bars, brownies, etc.) and frozen food to take home.
Do yourself a favour and spend your next break heading down to Jane's. -

Best Brunch. Best muffins and best brownie in the city. I have told 100 people this and none have called me a liar yet. :)
The coffee is legendary, my friends and I cannot find a place that serves better coffee...I can only think of one place in Montreal in Little Italy that even compares....
The staff is amazing, caring, thoughtful, prompt and always fun to talk to...
Also addictive is the soup and the dessert menu. I dare you not to indulge or peel your eyes away from the menu board while you are eating... -

My new Saturday AM tradition is to wake up bright and early and go for a walk across the Common to Jane's Next Door. Their coffee is always perfect, and what's more, they have incredible goodies for breakfast.
Case in point: the sweet potato breakfast biscuit. This innocuous looking creation is filled with egg, cheese, bacon, and veggies (there's a non-meat version, too). It is pure deliciousness, and I don't care if I become obese eating these babies. So. Good.
Their take-out food is also quite nice. I'm a fan of their sweet potato/black bean casserole and their sticky toffee pudding. They also sell Jane's famous tomato butter there, which, weirdly enough, goes with basically everything.
A bonus to shopping at this little store: everyone who I've encountered working where is basically The. Nicest. Ever. They smile and make awesome chit-chat as I stumble in at 8 AM. Such pleasant folks. Love having this store in my neighbourhood! -

Jane's has everything covered. I did not know this take out section was there. But what a find, thank to the other Yelper's.
We went here to grab some food for our picnic last weekend. The weather was so nice. Sandwiches, treats and drink.
A great place to grab when your on the go. -

Yum. I love stopping there to pick up a cookie or a lemon square on my way home. The frozen take-away meals are delicious, though a bit on the pricey side.

This little take-away spot is a perfect edition to the Jane's empire. You can pop in on sunny day and grab yourself a sammy, then head to the Commons for a picnic.
If you're in need of some well-crafted food to nourish your weary soul, I highly recommend giving Jane's Next Door a whirl. There are sandwiches available for veggies and meat eaters, as well as salads and baked goods - try a muffin when you're in, it won't disappoint! As well, you can purchase food to be prepared at home, like gourmet frozen mac & cheese bakes. Yum!
If you need a quick java, they can hook you up and get you on your way in no time flat. You can also invest in some of Jane's delicious tomato butter to take home and make a sandwich of your very own.
Whatever you need in terms of a quick meal fix, Jane's Next Door is a great choice, dishing out lovingly made, tasty meals sure to satisfy and sate!Listed in: The Essentials: Grocery…

Its genius, really. The heart of Jane's cultivated experience is one that we can take home and save for later. Wholesome delectables of the sweet, frozen, and fresh variety are offered up in "to-go" type settings-- stamp, sealed, delivered, approved!
Jane's is a special little resto that has acquired serious cult status for its wholesome, heart-healthy dishes. Attention to many dietary preferences, its emphasis on local, organic ingredients is the common ground, and a reason Haligonians and tourists line up at the door.
I love to stock up on treats when I can. Made from scratch, and with the best of ingredients, I am assured that my muffins are just like mom used to make... none of those additives or preservatives, no way! They also have sandwiches, salads, frozen meals, and a variety of other baked goods to pick from.
There is no question that this is a fabulous addition to Jane's main restaurant setting. People love this restaurant and what its all about- to take it home with you is the icing on the cake! -

This is a great place to grab some quick and delicious food. I especially like to come here when I'm on my way to the beach and grab my entire picnic lunch from the pre-made sandwiches in the cooler. (MMM curried chicken) They also sell frozen soups (also made in the kitchen at Jane's) as well as sweets and some frozen entrees, too. Fast, fresh, and delicious.
