Jake man I like ya. I haven't been to your original location downtown, but if it's anything like what you're doing out west, then props to you.
Pretty upscale place compared to boring chains located around it. We sat in the bar area and had beer and appetizers. Onion ring platter was bigger than I expected, both the size of the plate and the size of the rings. Calamari was good with three dipping sauces. Probably my least favorite of the three we ordered was the teryayki tenderloin tidbits (try saying that three times fast) which was surprising because this is a steak place, but the pieces were just too small and not enough; although still rather tasty. It won't deter me from coming back and trying a full steak dinner here next time. Cute waitress was on the ball right away with orders, refills, etc. Both domestics and craft beers on tap (I liked the Glacier Ale from Red Lodge MT).
What else is there to say? Good food + good atmosphere + good drinks + good service = good time. I'll be back again. -

Super disappointing dinner. I've been to Jake's downtown and have always been happy. This review was for an experience in Oct. 2010.
Went here on a work trip, the parking lot was packed we were fucking starving after 14 hrs outside.
Beer: Decent selection, props for having local flavors
Atmosphere: like a Sullivans or other $30/steak chain place, but with acid cowboy art
Service: Bullshit - just b/c you're an 8 in Billings doesn't mean you can be a pompous bitch (correction, just because you are a 10 or below anywhere doesn't mean you can be a pompous server). Its called service, fucking look it up in Websters.
Food: Ass...but at least not dirty ass. Blue cheese dressing was good. Ahi starter was a bit below average but I should have known better in MT. Burger...chophouse burger ($10). A fucking Costco patty. Yes, a fucking Costco patty. I don't know how yall roll, but a 10 motherfucking dollar chophouse burger at an establishment owned by one of the same as a top dollar steakhouse, should be fresh chuck or scrap from butcher cuts. Hell, Ive spent $15 on a burger and been blown away. But this shit....My co-worker go the shrimp plate...looked like it was taken straight from Long John Silvers. I asked the server and she responded that she never knew that that was what the burger was, after she recommended it to me b/c everyone likes it, its popular...
Now, the owner was sitting at the next table and watched this whole scene, and didn't make a move or ask management to come talk to me about my experience. Whatever dude, I won't be back to any of your establishments.
I give it 2 stars on the benefit of the doubt that their steak is the only thing that should be ordered (in which case don't call it a bar & grill, call it a steakhouse)
If you think I'm being vindictive, my average review is a 3.78, with more than half being 4 or 5 stars. -

There were a lot of problems with the service: we didn't get our bread for 20 minutes, I was asked specifically if i wanted anchovies on my caesar salad (and got SUPER excited because I LOVE anchovies on a caesar salad and like no where in billings does it) and then received a salad with no anchovies. My dining partner and I both ordered our steaks medium well-- mine came out medium rare and his came out well. One of the waitresses (not ours) was apparently the mother of someone I went to junior high school with 15 years ago, and came over to our table multiple times to talk to us, including showing us unsolicted family photos. And then, the piece de resistance, the worst service move in steak house history: some anorexic bus girl came out, put like a teaspoon of butter on my baked potato, and then took all the toppings away from me! I was horrified.
I overheard our waitress complaining at another table about how it had gotten so busy at 630... first of all there were several empty tables in her section, and second of all, what, they didn't think there were going to get lots of guests at 630 on saturday night the day after christmas?
Walker's has nothing to fear from this new jake's, even if its interior is very suggestive of.... the interior of walker's! -

The location is great but the service is not as prompt as one would hope for. Depending on the day- the food can be great or so-so depending on what you order. It is located downtown and could be in a better location.

Great chicken salad for lunch, the Million dollar salad, with a super great rasberry dressing, low fat, plus great service.

Muuuuuuuuch better than the original. (Of course, any eatery around here that's minus a seedy casino already gets bonus points.) Atmosphere upscale, warm and inviting, noise level acceptable. Staff was great. Food was delish - we had steaks, of course: the Santa Fe ribeye and the steak a la Jake's. Calamari for an appetizer -just the right consistency, not too heavily breaded, with three accompanying dips. French onion soup was fab.you.luss!

On a business trip to Billings, dropped in based on a drive by. Looked pretty good, figured i give it a shot. Sat at the bar. Good crowd, good buffalo burger. Decent wines by the glass and beers on tap. Worked out just fine for a business travel meal.
