Located in the sketchy downtown area of Windsor..  http://www.youtube.com...

Sunday dim sum is the best I've had in a long time.

Ignore the boogaloos, they're harmless, unless you get into a conversation with one of these street freaks.

The focus my friends is the goodness of quality Chinese dim sum.

Service is friendly, excellent variety, and prices reasonable... We ate really well for two and spent $27...

One of the few places to get Dim Sum in the city.

Jade is located on Wyandotte a little west of Ouelette. The place looks kind of crappy on the outside with their giant neon sign that burns your drunken eyes at 3 in the morning, but the place is pretty nice on the inside. It basically looks like a former nightclub with their giant dance floor filled with tables of Asians eating food. They even have the bar in the corner making me think this really was a nightclub before they took it over. Now it's a nice little restaurant that serves up dim sum items daily til 4 p.m.

I've come here on a couple of occasions and was able to try new things with each visit. But there are always staple dim sum items you can't leave without getting.

First off, I'm allergic to shrimp and other shellfish, but that doesn't stop me from stuffing my face with shrimp dumplings. Steamed shrimp dumplings are just addictive. Those little pieces of heaven are always plump and cooked perfectly at these dim sum places, and Jade is no exception.

Obsession aside...Other items are pretty good too. Their chicken feet are incredible and there is a nice portion of it for a good price. The skin is always good and it's tender and not chewy like other dim sum places might have. The steamed rice roll with shrimp is solid. That soy sauce/sugar mixture is good with anything. I usually get a plate just so I could use that sauce as a dipping sauce for my other items. The fried octopus is good, but tends to be a bit too chewy for my liking. The stuffed eggplant is great as the eggplant is tender on the inside and crispy on the outside with the right amount of sauce and a shrimp paste filling.

Their chow mein noodles are real good because they are not greasy. I can't stress enough how bad greasy chow mein noodles are and Jade avoids doing this. The turnip cake is good, but nothing special.

Overall, the prices are real good for the dim sum menu. I haven't tried their actual food, but if it's anything like their dim sum, I'm sure it's good. Although....I did try their pan fried pork dumplings at a catering event and they were excellent!....but I also tried the egg rolls and they just sucked. Filled with veggies that even vegetarians would avoid in a greasy mess. But disregard that last statement and I'll end on a more uplifting note. Jade is definitely a spot to go to if you want good dim sum at even better prices (everything's around $3).

Jade is a favorite of mine, and delivers consistently good food.  Never had a problem with take out, and the ladies I have dealt with are very nice.
The won ton soup is some of the best I have had, and they have a very good selection of dishes.  I especially like their shrimp dishes --- nice size and great flavor!
If it's specifically Dim Sum you want, you probably want to go closer to the university --- but for the majority of us that want great, non-greasy, delicious food, this is the spot to go!

The dim sum is as fresh and tasty as the best places in NYC or LA. Possibly even better, actually. Very reasonably priced. Nice waitstaff. Well worth the toll to cross the border for delicious dim sum. Will be back for more soon. It's an authentic dim sum restaurant, so it's not fancy by any stretch of the imagination. Go for the food, not the frills.

I would give this place zero stars if I could. Incredibly rude over the phone, completely ignored what I asked for, sent supposedly vegetarian dishes with meat in them, berated me for not asking for "eggplant in hunan sauce" with no meat (as though there was any indication it had meat in it), refused to make things right.

Of the things that came as expected, only the white rice and dim sum (ie, things bought pre-made and heated or fried) were decent. Everything else was greasy and awful.

I understand why they don't take credit cards for delivery - it;s so they have zero accountability when they screw up your delivery order. When I called back to say that my order was wrong in several ways (from no plates that I asked to be sent to my hotel to pork in the veggie Singapore noodles) they didn't care, and told me they would remake my food - at full price. Cash. I don't think so.

Dim sum is very authentic and good.  They have made to order dim sum menu with a solid assortment of staple items.  The shrimp dumplings and fun rolls were excellent.  They also have other steamed items like pork, shrimp/chives dumplings, steamed/bake pork buns, egg plant, fried taro root, sticky rice, egg custard tarts and chicken feet.

Their noodles were very good as well.  We had the chicken chow fun and the shanghai seafood noodles, quality was excellent and portions were good.

The place was packed on the weekend with mostly Cantonese speaking customers and a couple waiting in line.  Just be advised, the made to order items can take as long as 20 minutes, so don't be in a rush.

Overall a great dim sum experience an interesting first impression in Windsor.

    Enjoy!

I did enjoy eating at jade in the past. Tonight I called to order take out. They no longer accept credit card for deleivery leaving me searching for $50 cash I could give them. Instead I hung up and ordered pizza. I don't carry cash around. Either debit or credit at the door please. This isnt 1987.

When a company refuses to take some sort of morden day payment it's not a good sign for their company.

Even though Wah Court will always be -- in my opinion -- the stalwart in Chinese cuisine in Windsor (and possibly, May Wah), I'll still make the effort to check out other options in the area. Every disappointing experience reminds me that I shouldn't be so adventurous and just stick to the known and predictable.

    Enter Jade Chinese Cuisine (JCC.)

Compared to Wah Court, JCC is more inviting and, dare I say, more elegant of a space. Too bad the quality of the food does not quite reflect the ambiance.

A 3-person dinner special at JCC consisted of ordering three items from an extensive list and then receiving two complimentary lobsters, in addition to soup and dessert. At first glance, that may seem like quite the deal. Take a closer look, and you'll notice that the price tags on the former dishes boast inflated numbers.

The winter melon soup was a nice lead-in to our meal. For our three mains, we had the sizzling fish, seafood tofu hot pot, and the salt and pepper pork chops. While any diner could have easily stomached all three dishes, they weren't exactly spectacular in any way, which brings me to one of my pet peeves when it comes to salt and pepper pork chops. A 1:1 ratio of bones to meat is a-okay. A 4:1 ratio? Not okay. As for the lobsters, a more accurate description would be 'baby lobsters.' Lots of shell and not a whole lot of meat -- you get the jist. Thankfully, the black sesame soup (zhi ma hu) was a much needed 'dessert' and a good way to polish off our heavy msg-laden meal.

The service at JCC was a hit or miss. Our first server was incredibly helpful in explaining the menu and helping us decide what to order. After the change of shift, our second server was just plain rude.

The hours of operation here probably makes this a hotspot, especially given the fact that Caesars is only a few minute drive away. Last time I checked, they were open till 4 in the am. Unless you're up at an ungodly hour of 3:30 or so, I'd strongly suggest other Chinese restaurants in the area.

This place is awesome - especially if you are trying to sober up after a night on the town in Windsor.  They are open pretty late.  The food is very good and the restaurant is very clean.  My personal favorite is the chicken soo gai, but it is best to go in a group and order many options since they generally serve their food family style - this way you can try several options.  If you like seafood (and I do), try the spicy squid - it is delicious.

Great Place, been there once late night with a bunch of friends for dinner after Casinos, clubs, and bars.  The great thing about this place was that it opened late and their food was good.  Maybe it was because we order a lot of good and expensive food after winning a lot that night, but the food was done right.
