Review from Sydney B.
It's a good thing I didn't realize this place was nearby until today. I enjoyed watching Jacques Torres on the old tv show Dessert Circus (complete with cartoon images in the credits and the famous chocolatier pedaling his bicycle carrying a baguette).
Now, here I was, as if I could walk into the tv show and nibble in person. The sweet smell of delicious chocolate greeted me as I stepped into this spacious chocolate shop, complete with a hot chocolate bar. I strolled around to survey the offerings, and decided to switch from window shopping to sampling one of the wine-infused chocolates. I sat on one of the couches and enjoyed my treat the way it should be done--leisurely.
The real triumph of the day: I just had one of the chocolate chip cookies, and it may have been the best chocolate chip cookie I've ever had.
Merci Jacques Torres! -

If I were a chocoholic the Jacques Torres Chocolate store would be my idea of heaven. I've been aware of Jacques Torres from his days on public TV and the Food Network so I was pleasantly surprised to find that one of his stores was so close to me.
Walking in, you cannot help but notice the intense, sweet smell of chocolate. Bunnies, eggs, bars and baskets are everywhere, oh my! There's even a hot chocolate bar and a small refrigerator filled with frozen macarons! I was told that they offered samples, if I wanted try some. Off to one side patrons can look through the glass to see the factory where the confections are made.
At the counter, they offer samples of their chocolate chip cookies. OMG. There are enough pictures of this item on this site and for good reason. If you like you CCC's filled with butter and large chunks of chocolate, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, this is the cookie for you. It was deeee - licious! It wasn't too sweet and held up well to the weight of all that chocolate.
The chocolate is quite smooth and isn't too sweet. I bought some milk, dark and coffee flavored bars for my coworkers and they all seemed to love them.Listed in: N.Y.C., Baby!

got their famous chocolate chip cookie, for $2-3?
i am not sure...the cookies were pretty big and
they did not use chocolate chips sparingly, but
i think i had better chocolate chips elsewhere.
but since i love chocolate chip cookies so much,
i will definitely try them until i get a better batch!! :) -
Review from Joe L.
If you like chocolate and have never been to a Jacques Torres location, particularly this one which is like Willy Wonka's playhouse, you should be ashamed of yourself.
The chocolate (bars, pieces, truffles, chocolate-covered everything) is superlative. The chocolate chip cookies are pretty much the best I've ever had. Get them warmed up and you will never want to eat chocolate chip cookies from anywhere else. They also have a beverage station and I would encourage you to try their hot chocolate. The wicked, which is a bit spicy, and the peanut butter, are both outstanding. In the summer, they also serve ice cream, which is excellent.
I'm telling you, this place will change your life. Do it. Do it now! -
Review from Lee M.
This place is very dangerous for anybody concerned with calorie intake. As soon as you walk into the store, the aroma of chocolate is so intoxicating that you have to be inhuman if you walk out without any treats.
I'm a fan of his individual chocolates (particularly the hazelnut and cayenne which are $1.50 per (definitely not cheap, but an indulgence that is worth twice the price). I didn't partake in anything but a couple of individual chocolates, but there were plenty of other great looking options, like the chocolate covered corn flakes, ice cream, cookies and lots of holiday options for both easter and passover.
A must-see destination for any foodie in New York. -

A must visit for any chocolate fiend.
This place sells wall to wall chocolate, everything from chocolate-covered pretzels to ice cream sandwiches to truffles. The hot chocolate is fabulous, and so are the warm and delicious chocolate chip cookies. And the service couldn't be sweeter.
But if you're on a diet, avoid this place at all costs - it's hard to leave without indulging in a treat. -
Review from Miriam W.
I am noshing on a bag of Jacques Torres caramel corn drizzled with dark chocolate as I'm writing this, and it's a happy making snack. We stopped in earlier today for a hot chocolate and sat at the coffee bar, enjoying both our treat and chatting with the friendly staff. The space is great, with windows looking in on the workers as they make chocolates and pastry, and plenty of seating for relaxing. This is a terrific spot to pick up a gift basket for a very lucky someone.

This is worth the trip just for the bar. Order one of Jacques signature hot chocolate drinks and bask in the wonderful aromas wafting in this beautiful patisserie. The staff is friendly and really helpful. I sent a gift basket to a friend in New Orleans and it went very well. I really thought the cookies were excellent. I tried the peanut butter chocolate and the chocolate chip cookie. I thought the chocolate chip cookie was a little sweet for me and rich too but still enjoyed it excitedly. I loved the peanut butter cookie even more. We bought a box of truffles to go, having picked out 6 each. I thought these were good. I have had better at just a few places but am splitting hairs, these were very good and didn't last long. If you are anywhere near the neighborhood I strongly suggest you stop by and have a nibble.

Jacques Torres is an over-the-top chocolate store; they have almond bark, huge insane cookies, and CHOCOLATE COVERED CORN FLAKES. I was thinking about those today and headed over when I headed home.
While I was at it, I got a few Valentine's treats for my roommate: one of the huge, rich cookies, some of the dark chocolate bark, and another bag of the aforementioned flakes. You gotta figure that anything you cover in chocolate is going to be better than it was; judging by the ingredients label, these were just run-of-the-mill corn flakes, but when you coat them with dark chocolate, it makes them magic.
My roommate could only eat half the cookie, he said, or he'd get "twitchy feet." Can't have that; tomorrow is another day.Listed in: Chocolate

CHOCOLATE ON CHOCOLATE ACTION
i like this location because they have big windows so you can see the operations of the back factory!
----chocolate chip cookie: make sure to ask them to WARM IT UP so its melty! not bad.. nice chew with a buttery crust
----classic hot chocolate: tasted watered down
GREAT ATMOSPHERE, they have tables and couches for you to enjoy your experience! but i wasn't a huge fan of the chocolate, but i much prefer the cookies and hot chocolate at Max Brenner! -

I know, I know--the point of visiting here is for the amazing hot chocolate....and that was the intention! And, as soon as we walked in, every thought of that flew out of my mind as we were engulfed in Choco-heaven.
Everything chocolate you could ever imagine....literally, we felt like Charlie in Johnny Depp's (I wish) Chocolate Factory. ;) Next best thing, Jacques Torres himself was there- nice!
I spied a HUGE chocolate bar called "Big Daddy"- no brainer, I had to get it for a gift! Jacques was so gracious to sign it and came out to chat with us. That was special, especially since he was so busy getting ready for his TV spot the next AM.
I got the "quickies"- one for me, and a couple for other people that would appreciate the humor in it ;) Also, the chocolate bark full of omegas- pistachios & other nuts- HEALTHY! :)
Can't wait to stock up again when I'm back in April...seriously, as good as it gets- heart! -

I love this place. I have a crush on Jacque. I am utterly jealous of this man's life and all that he has accomplished within the world of chocolate. His shop is magnificent, chocolates wildly creative and delicious, and the fact that he's here about 90% of the time I stop in the store, teaching others about his work and actually making the chocolate in the shop, just makes this place all the more amazing. You cannot go wrong with anything here, but recos include the hot chocolate (get it wicked), ice cream (when available outside in the summer), massive chocolate chip cookies, and cocoa dusted almonds. Oh yes.

Best chocolate chip cookie ever! You really have to have one. Every bite is full of chocolatey goodness and here is why: They use circular chocolate disks and layer them in the batter. My boss would buy these for us on someone's birthday because it was across the street from our office. Now, whenever I visit the City, I have to get one. And definitely get it warmed up!

(Part Five of the NYC Food Crawl - Hot Chocolate Crawl; 1/15/12)
FACT: I chewed their orange hot cocoa.
I munched on the fresh bits of orange floating around within it, glad to be getting a small dose of fruit and Vitamin C during the diabetes-inducing hot cocoa crawl.
The smell of chocolate permeating the air...and the chairs and tables, and, soon, our clothing and hair, this place is chocolate, chocolate, and more chocolate!
The cocoas were flavorful and rich. Aside from Vosges, I found this place to have the most unique flavor combinations (orange, chai, peanut butter, et al). The cocoa was rich, just slightly more tolerable than Mariebelle, but I managed to finish everything I tried. The staff was quick and happy to give us a few free chocolate samples to go along with our cocoas. (As if we needed more chocolate...)
A fitting conclusion to our hot cocoa crawl! It was A-OK, indeed, quite pleasant. -

Awesome chocolate shop in NYC. I had the opportunity to meet and chat with Jacques Torres during my visit; Mr. Torres was very charming and made it a point to chat up all the customers.
I ordered the wicked hot chocolate without whipped cream. Upon seeing that, Mr. Torres insisted that was "all wrong" and that I put his freshly made whipped cream in it; he took my cup, and put it in himself! I have to admit: the whipped cream actually did make it taste better - I guess the dairy helped balance the uber rich/thick hot chocolate. Definitely worth trying!
I thought the cookies were OK, but love the chocolate! I was just bummed that they didn't offer their ice cream sandwiches (spring and summer only). -

Jacques Torres' appearance makes it a 5 star rating automatically!
My first time to the store and the man himself was there, actually making the drinks (for a quick second) and conversing with the patrons!
(Wicked Hot Chocolate) = Overall a good rich hot chocolate, but didn't taste the ancho chills nor the chipotle peppers as much, until I hit the bottom of the cup. So mix well!
(White Chai) White chocolate with a chai tea twist = Too sweet for my taste.
(Milk Chocolate covered pretzels) = Delicious, but a bit saltier than the average chocolate covered pretzels, but good nonetheless! -

I once dated a guy who introduced to me to Jacques Torres' chocolates after learning I was a chocolate snob. He even figured out the exact flavors I would like. He got mad points for originality but too bad he was such a mook, otherwise I would've kept him around. Oh well, at least he taught me that this place can be quite expensively addictive. Hopefully, my current boyfriend will read this review and get the hint. Oh, and the drinking chocolate is a combination of crack and heaven in a cup. This location is also cool because you can see the magic behind the awesomeness; makes me feel a bit like Charlie in the chocolate factory, only without the fear of short people singing ridiculous songs about the error of human choices. No, the only bad choice is choosing not to go here - that and weighing yourself after a day in this shop.

THE PLACE FOR THE CHOCOLATE FIEND IN YOU!!!
Holy FRIG! This is the real deal chocolatier to hit up in the city! This place makes Godiva look and taste like Russel Stovers. If you are like an alcoholic but for chocolate, this is a must visit for any occasion. You won't be angry about the amount of money you just dropped on chocolate after you're all done either.
Must Haves: OOOOO MAN!!! The hot chocolate is quite possible the most amazing thing in the world. By no means are you drinking watery or milky cocoa... this is like drinking pure melted chocolate cut with a bit of cream and topped with some dope whipped cream!!! Seriously a Chocogasm and a must have winter drink. Big Plus... Get the mix and make it yourself throughout the winter. Another +, option between standard and Wicked (hot/Spicy) hits up all those senses depending on your mood.
Summer months... All about the Ice cream sandwiches.... Fresh soft cookies crammed with their amazing quality chocolate chunks and filled with some of the creamiest hard ice cream! TOTAL FAT KID STATUS!
Ever seen a grown up get a total mental block over chocolate options? Just get on line and experience it for yourself. The Chocolate pieces will leave you wanting more. SOOO many choices... I only eat the dark stuff, and don't mess around with milk chocolates so get the pistachio marzipan, 80%, Wicked (hot/spicy), ginger, espresso, coconut, port, menage a trois, and peanut brittle as well as anything else that strikes your fancy. Get Chocolate Bars!!! They are quite the experience, great for keeping hidden in the house for a quick snack while your other isn't looking, or baking into your favorite goods that require chocolaty amazingness.
Occasions that call for THE JACQUES!!!
1) Your own chocolate needs
2) Anniversaries
3) Birthdays
4) Gifts for friends and family
5) Hot chocolate in the winter
6) Ice cream sandwiches in the summer
7) No reason whatsoever
This is an amazing place... Watch them make the chocolate while you sip a hot chocolate... Walk in and it semi-resembles and smells like Willy Wonka... Watch yourself and others turn into little kids as you run around the chocolate and drool... The staff is friendly and incredibly helpful. This place is a chocolate overload!
Remember, You're here because your an alcoholic, but for chocolate!Listed in: Food and coffee on the go in…, Shopping in the City...

Num. I experienced the chocolate chip, vanilla ice cream sandwich a few weeks back. It was so big that I couldn't get a good sized bite, so I took a bunch of small ones. Ended splitting it with my S.O. as it was way overwhelming.
Gotta say I preferred the cookie to the ice cream - - and I love vanilla ice cream (would've preferred a creamier variety). -

Awesome chocolate store in NYC. Made a trip specifically to Jacques Torres to get some chocolate to bring back to family/friends in San Francisco. The chocolate is on the pricey side, but that's the price you pay for good chcolate.
I got a box for my sister and since it was nearing father's day, I got a fish chcolate for my boyfriend's father. I was able to select the chocolates I wanted for the box. While we were here, we bought a chocolate cookie.. it was so delicious!
If you spend more than $25 they give you a free insulated bag for your chocolate. If you want to just buy the bag itself, it's like a couple bucks or something. The ladies working explained how we should care for our chocolate as we had a long day ahead of us and how to care for it while traveling on the plane.
Hm.. I guess I should ask my sister how she liked the chocolates! -

I work nearby and have been warming up to this place over the past year. Some of my favorites are the coconut macaroons, WHICH ARE AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, sorry about that. Also good is the white chocolate bar and the chocolate and caramel drizzled popcorn. Yummy.
I have also tried the truffles (definitely pass on the Chai Tea truffle) which I only thought were ok, and the chocolate chip cookie, which was very chocolatety. I'm not too into chocolate chip cookies, but if you are you would probably like it.
A great gift idea is to pre-order their chocolate high heel shoe (about $50.00), which is very pretty, and you can order in milk or dark chocolate.
My only gripe is they usually only have the macaroons frozen :( -

Don't leave here without trying their hot chocolate - if you like spicy, opt for the "Wicked".
They have amazing chocolate chip cookies as well.
If you are a chocolate aficionado, it's definitely worth a visit. Staff is friendly and there are plenty of goodies to choose from! There are also a couple of places to sit and relax as you are sipping your hot chocolate and eating cookies.

You never realize how few ice cream places there are in Manhattan until you are scambling to find one in boiling temps on a late July weekday. Not gelato, not soft-serve fro yo--- I want old fashioned, hard ice cream on a sugar cone. "Is that too much to ask for?" I cry out to the heavens as the blazing sun burns my eyes. "When will Stewart's invade Manhatta!?!"
Today, I happened to be on Hudson when I had my psychotic break from the heat, and I found a rare oasis in this ice cream barren city at Jacques Torres. And not only did I find ice cream---cassis sorbet in NYC--- someone pinch me.
It's going to be a struggle, but next time I'll give the ice cream sandwich a try--- or maybe I'll just double-fist. -
Review from Louis P.
You already know how good Jacques Torres Chocolate is, but did you know about the ice cream?
Right around Memorial Day they roll out a wooden ice cream stand on the Hudson Street side of the store. I walk by it every day and finally checked it out a month ago...i've been back 6 times since!
First time i tried the strawberry and it was good, but i knew i had to be missing something better so the 2nd time i went with the dark chocolate chip and it was exraordinary!
Third time the nice girl at the stand suggested i tried the pistachio....YES!!
It's not the gimmicky green ice cream you get at the chain stores, and it has real pistachio in it instead of almonds like other places. It's honestly the best pistachio iced cream i've ever had and at the top of any ice cream in general i've had.
I try to limit myself to one visit a week because i'm sure it's adding to my expanding wasteline but trust me when i say it's great!
They have plenty of other flavors, most of them are variations of chocolate of course, so check it out when you are in the Hudson Street area.
They are outside most days in the summer, except during heatwaves.
Don't go too early because the ice cream is a little hard when they first
set up at 10am, try going after 11 to be safe.
Don't forget to tip, it's hot outside! -

Jacques Torres, you are one charming chocolate man.
My roomie and I came here to try their infamous "Wicked Hot Chocolate" after seeing it being featured on Food Network's "Best Thing I Ever Ate." First off, I'm not really a chocolate gal and don't go cray cray for them when it's that ugly time of the month. Na mean, ladies? However, the whole experience at Chocolate Haven surpassed our expectations and brought chocolate to another level.
From the outside, they have big windows where you can see their little chocolate factory that looked like Willy Wonka factory. How fun, chocolate galore! This chocolate haven is very homey and festive with the holidays with room to sit and lounge. They have a variety of things from snowman chocolates, ice cream cookie sandwiches, coffee station, and gourmet chocolates on display. The list goes on.
When we were perusing all the different sweets and gifts they had, we heard someone ask if they could get an autograph from Jacques Torres. Soon enough we see the king of chocolate working the café area. Of course we had to order two wicked hot chocolates from him! Jacques is such a sweet man who was very friendly and asked where we were from. He mentioned that his wife has a chocolate store in LA called Madame Chocolate and joked that she was her biggest competition so "if you can't beat 'em, you marry em." Touche. Jacques was nice enough to take pictures with us and was a very down to earth funny dude. Hot chocolate got spilled on me somehow and he was extremely helpful and apologetic. Afterwards, he gave us a fresh warm chocolate chip cookie to go with our wicked hot chocolate. 5 stars just for his great customer service. Way to charm the ladies!
The wicked hot chocolate was wicked good! It was so rich, creamy, and sexy. It's made with real chocolate and has allspice, cinnamon, sweet ancho chili peppers, and ground chipotle chili peppers. Kudos to Jacques for all these daring bursting flavors and making it taste so delicious with the right amount of sweet and spice. It's definitely a must-try if you like hot chocolate.
Now I know they featured the Wicked hot chocolate on Best Thing I Ever Ate....but I think I found The Best Chocolate Chip Cookie I Ever Ate! Not only was it nice of Jacques to give us a complimentary cookie, it was nicely warm and toasted when we got it. It was oozing with real chunks of melted chocolate (none of that chocolate chip business) and it had the right amount of crisp on the outside and chewiness on the inside. The layer of chocolate melted in between the cookie dough was perfection. The size of the cookie was huge and big enough for two people so don't complain about it being $3. Warning, it can get messy. But hey, the messier it is, the better it tastes. *licks fingers* I even got two cookies to bring back to the cookie monster.
Overall, a great experience where the chef genuinely cares about his customers and his chocolate. We walked out realizing we received complimentary wicked hot chocolates with a chocolate chip cookie in our tummies, not too shabby at all. :)Listed in: I left my stomach in NYC!

My friend told me to try some samples before I committed to buying a cup of hot chocolate. She warned me that it was super sweet.
This was the conversation that ensued:
Employee: Are you going to order?
Me: Can I try a sample first?
Employee: Are you going to order?
Me: Can I try a sample first...?
Employee: Are you going to order?
Me: Well I wanted to try it before I buy it.
Then she ignored me.
Yuppp, that and after observing around saw a fistful of cornflakes dipped in chocolate selling for $6. I can go home and make that myself. -

Jacques Torres chocolate should be allowed on every diet. The chocolate is so good you want to eat a pound of it all at once but usually you are done after one, maybe two truffles. My favorites are all of them. The coconut truffle even tastes good to me and I usually dislike coconut. The best late night snack is the chocolate covered macaroons.
I met Jacques when he opened his 1st store in DUMBO, Brooklyn. Super nice guy! I was glad to discover the SoHo store last year. Jacques even remembered me! The mocha chinos will kick you awake. The people who work there are always pleasant when I've been there. -
