I have yet to complete my search for the perfect bike, but in a recent wander, Jack Nauss looked like an appropriate spot to further my investigations.
While the focus seems to be on repairs, there are still a handful of tuned up bikes for sale that are ready to go. A little more expensive than what I came across at Ideal, but still very decent, none the less.
Service was super. Casual, cool-- the guys were very helpful in providing me the appropriate run-though, and I awkwardly stumbled through my lack of bike expertise.
Another great independent shop, and I'll probably be more apt to use it for repairs than an actual purchase. Staff seem to be true professionals who love what they do, and thats all good in my books. -

This used to be my favorite bike shop years ago when Jack was still alive. He always took amazing care of you and made sure you got what you needed at a reasonable price. Since Jack has passed his son has taken over the business, I've found the "taking care of you" part of the business to be be like the points on "Who's line is it".... doesn't really matter. I don't possess a multi $$$ dollar bike but it does the job, and when I needed a flat repaired quickly so that I could use the bike to get to work I was charged quite a lot for new back wheel and my derailleur was out after the work so that my shifters kept skipping gears. When I returned to complain the response was "so, you want a tune up as well" like I should have expected to fix this myself. He did wind up adjusting the derailleur slightly better but it still jumped gears and I had to take it to another bike shop to get it fixed. I think Jack must have been getting gas pains in his grave every time his son crapped on another customer. I will admit that his son does good work and knows bikes better that almost anyone else in the city. I think that is why it upsets me so much because I really liked this place before. Anyhow, they've lost my business because I'm not willing to put up with that bullshit; I've never returned since that day. Good luck to you if you go. Bike snobs will probably fair better.

Sometimes it is true what they say that you get what you paid for. Now at Jack Nauss this is more of a speciality store that is designed for those high end bike lovers. It is amazing some of the prices that people will pay for a bike. Now I am not saying that this store inpaticular is expensive I am saying that some are just expensive.
When in BC we purchased my son a BMX stunt bike with custom break work to the bars could spin as well as some other goodies. Well during one of his many adventures he broke the breaks. We went to Nauss and the educated staff helped up pick up what we need and state that is there was any issues to bring the bike in and they would take a crack at it. Luckily we were able to fix it with not that much expense. Now funny we fixed it and then someone stole the bike from the shed, go figure hey. -

On my current quest for a bike I popped into Nauss Bicycle Shop earlier this past week.
The proprietor was very friendly and knowledgeable! A few used bikes were available for my perusal although I gather that this bike shop focuses more on repairs.
I will definitely be back to Nauss Bike Shop when my (soon to be purchased) bike requires maintenance though!
*A little more expensive than a few of the other used bike shops in town. Check out this spot for any unique modification you may need! -

I popped into this bike center yesterday, sans wheels, to find out costs and services included in a general tune up.
I was greeted by two cute guys who were very helpful and attentive! I was shown on a bike exactly what would take place with the tune up and was told the benefits of having said services done.
Prices are reasonable (around $50) to have everything greased up and adjusted, and as well, the costs of part replacement is on average lower than some of the shops I've dealt with as of late.
I'll save my fifth star until I actually have my bike serviced. However, this was a great bike chitchat experience. The employees were helpful, had good explanations and were funny to boot. Yay. -

We have used Jack Nauss several times to repair our bikes. I like it here because you know the service is great.
The staff here is great, and you will not get overcharged. We had to repair two tires and straighten the frame.
The turn around time is fairly quick. They also gave some good does and don't to do for the next time. -

This is an excellent bike shop. One of the best in the city for repairs, if not the best. If you think your bike has had it, don't give up until you let these guys have a look. It is not your typical bike shop where new staff pass through and have to get trained regularly, and you don't know if the guy working on your bike has years or months of experience. At Nauss your bike is looked after by someone with years of experience period. They are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The showroom does not have a lot of bikes, but they do have Opus brand bikes (made in Quebec) which is unique in Halifax. I highly recommend checking these guys out especially for repairs and general maintenance.

I learned about the Jack Nauss shop when I bought a refurbished bike from an ex-employee. He only had good things to say about it, so when I'd paid him for my new ride I scooted over to Nauss for some bar tape. The guys on staff were helpful, first taping my boyfriend's handlebars as I watched, and then indulging me as I slowly redid the process on my bike. They seemed cool with having us back in the workroom, and we enjoyed the experience. I've been back since for minor repairs, and the service has been just as good. I'll definitely continue to go there for my bike repair needs.
