I was pleasantly surprised about how good the food was.  I went there last night as part of food meetup.  The owner closed the restaurant for us and prepared the food mild.  Some of us thought it was still spicy.  My thoughts.....with this kind of cuisine, you need to be spicy!!

    My favorites:

1)lentil cakes-very flavourful and with a hint of spice. It had the texture of a soft cookie.  It was so good, I helped myself to a second one.
2)mutton rolls-I thought there was too much pastry shell but the mutton was moist.  Didn't realize how spicy it was until I finished it!
3)mutton curry-the meat was tender and I liked the smell of the spices she used.
4)veggie dished-she prepared a good variety for us.  I loved the okra although others found it slimy, the lentils and eggplant
5)hopper-for dessert was pretty good.  the coconut filling inside had the right amount of sweetness and shell was pretty and delicate.

I would definitely go back for another

    * Delicious Sri Lankan specialties *

I haven't found much in the way of Sri Lankan food in Vancouver, and heard about this spot offering homestyle Sri Lankan food and had to just head on over.

Made the mistake in my excitement of trying to go for dinner on a Wednesday.  Who knew that was the only day of the week they are closed?!?!?!?!  Ok.....Made it back today for lunch, and I'm glad I did.

I had the mutton string hopper kotthu.  They took the string hoppers, and minced them up with a lovely balance of veggies, spices, and of course mutton.  Everything was so fresh tasting.  The mutton was tender and flavourful.  The string hoppers and cabbage had some nice caramelization, and the chilis in the "medium heat" version were freshly diced instead of just adding a sauce.  The balance of the dish was fabulous, and it wasn't greasy at all.  A winner!

Also got to try the kiri pani (yogurt with palm syrup).  It was a nice thick yogurt covered in a very pleasantly sweet syrup.

This place is a definite keeper, and I'm looking forward to returning to sample my way through the menu.

They have a nice selection on the menu including some harder to find items like bitter melon curry, crab curry, string hoppers, and pittu!  Can't wait to sample some more......

There are a few random Malaysian and Singaporean dishes on the menu too, but they are clearly not the focus.

    This place is a find!

The food is great, the service rules.

I came here randomly during a little walking adventure, and boy am I glad I did!

We had the veggie Kotthu and the mutton curry, both delicious.  We drank a wood apple lassi--- really cool taste.  Ask them to show you a wood-apple, it's freakin cool!!

There was a huge party of Sri Lankan's in the side room, all dolled up in gorgeous traditional clothing.  After their dinner, the karaoke started and so did the dancing!  I totally want to come back here for a karaoke dance party--- but this was for a private party so we played it cool.

The food was yummy (I wish they had photos on their menu because I have no idea what to order) though the deep  fried banana dessert was  small for my liking.

Our server and another guy (I think the owner) brought us random dishes to try for free--- soooo sweet of them.  They were the coolest guys in the world.  The owner wore a pimping gold chain and looked like a Sri Lankan version of James Brown.  He showed us his Bollywood moves....pretty much the coolest guy ever!

I loved the food (need a tutorial) but will be back to see the AWESOME staff.  Seriously, such an experience.

This is a humble restaurant without much ambience or appealing decor.  The front is not particularly inviting either.

The food is another story.  Everything we ordered was very tasty, Roti, Dosa, and Lamprais.  Lots of flavor and good texture.  I look forward to returning to eat more.

Note:  if you don't like spicy food, be sure to ask them to lower the heat.

I will have to revisit this place as not knowing what to order I tried to get the waiter to recommend items and end up spending $21 for lunch, Later I saw on menu there are combo plates and daily special through the week.  Tried two kinds of hoppers and mutton curry and they were tasty.
