A butcher/deli that offers a limited selection of very high quality fresh and cured/prepared meats, sausages, a few kinds of pickles, and not much else.

The prosciutto is just superb. Maybe the best I've ever eaten. Everything else also made to a very high standard. Recommended without reservation.

Arrive before 5:30 PM on weekdays or Saturday, and bring cash. They don't take plastic. Strictly a retail shop, not a restaurant.

Oh my freaken God,,,,even better the 250th time I've been here. Don't miss the Sat specials, they are a MUST have...........get ready for it..........Smoked homemade meat loaf,,,,to die for and spicy sausages the essential ingredient in a western sandwich. Thank you J, N & Z....luv the babushka and daughters who run the place.

Maybe it is because I now only eat meat on a rare occasion (such as now), that I found J, N & Z Deli smokehouse a bit of a trip when I first walked in. Never mind the questionably (in)sane woman who butted in front of me with a jar of pickles, the shop is very authentic with smoked meat hanging from everywhere and the scent of smoky flavour permeating the shop.

My fears were quelled as soon as I spotted a VERY authentic Ukrainian sausage (kolbassa) my absolute favourite, and a treat from that was passed down from my Ukrainian Baba and Mum. One bite in and I'm hooked! I will definitely come back here from now one for my fix! The authenticity is no joke as the owners are from Yugoslavia and they have been sharing their smoked meat with Vancouver-ites for decades. Lucky us!

Mission to Try Vancouver's 101 Best eats
Two birds with one stone - while heading the MAKE IT! What a great trip :)

    Item 1: Smoked Beet Tenderloin
    Item 2: Serbian Garlic Sausage
All cured in house, and man made - shelf life = FOREVER
The lady was nice enough to tell us about the family store, and offered free samples.

The best way to eat is.. probably is the way it is, with crackers or cheese. I decided to cook the sausage in a pasta and I think it took out the flavour a little bit. I enjoyed the the Beef tenderloin more, as it was thinly sliced, unlike the link of sausage. Both were full of flavour, well cured.

For one link of sausage and about 12 slices of beef, it came it $3.00!
There are so many other types of meats to try... I can only imagine how delicious those will be!

Magical meat shop on Commercial - truly an experience.  One step in the door and the smell will start you drooling.  Whether you want more traditional cold cuts or sausages or more eclectic Hungarian bacons or exotic dried meats, this store is a fantastic place.  I find the prices to be no higher than local grocers for fresh cut sandwich meats and seems to be cheaper than the Grotta down the block (if you want cheese for your meats, definitely make a stop at the La Grotta Del Formaggio on the same block).

We head here every Saturday to get our weekly sausage fix. My husband is Polish so he requires a certain level of nitrates or he just dies. We always get kranskis (smaller smoked sausages) Sometimes they are even warm (omg). I highly recommend the Prague Ham (like your regular deli ham only 100x better) and the Eva Edam cheese. In the summer I get their BBQ sausages and the white sausages too. Their prices are totally comparable to your supermarket deli but everything is top quality. For liverwurst fans they have coarse or fine varieties and if you want to try something really different ask for Metka  (sp?).  It is almost like tartar but must have paprika or something red in it. Full of meaty goodness. Things to note. 1. They are closed Sundays and Mondays, 1 month in the summer and usually 1 month in the winter. Very European.  Saturdays are really busy and the lineup can be out the door especially in the summer.
