For all those who wept when Junk & Foibles closed the doors on its whimsical collection of vintage finds, rest easy knowing that the space has been reimagined and reinvigorated in its new life as an upscale womens fashion boutique.
Gorgeous hardwood floors, luxury interior design, and all the modern touches that just make a place feel special come alive at J&R Grimsmo, a shop worth visiting no matter what your style simply to see how beautiful Halifax boutiques are becoming these days. I'm actually kicking myself for not taking photos during my visit.
Looking for world-renowned brands like Gucci and Prada? Keep looking. Grimsmo skips the big guns and instead creates a home for the best kept secrets of fashion-higher end brands that are bubbling up, many of which are Canadian. This is a destination for true fashionistas, not just label-lovers.
No representation for the fellas yet, which was a bit of a disappointment, but the friendly owner let me know that they've had a good bit of interest from male customers and just might think about bringing in some options further down the road. Translation: if you want nice thing, men, now's the time to get in there and make sure they know it. -

If you're looking for something different to wear or just an admirer of beautiful simplicity, pop into J&R Grimsmo. Fashionistas for sure should add this boutique to their must-visit lists.
J&R Grimsmo is the latest and maybe the most stylish addition to the Halifax women's fashion scene. Located in the old Junk & Foibles spot, the owners have made the most of this beautiful space refinishing the floors to their lovely original state and using older pieces of furniture such as chest of drawers and an amazing counter to create a very unique retail space.
One of my besties gave me a very cool necklace from here (made of brass with two charms--a map of France and a small replica of a hammer) so of course I paid a visit to see what other goodies I could find.
The clothing leans toward the casual, yet dressy style. There are pieces for both work and the evening. Prices are definitely on the higher end, but the pieces are beautiful in their simplicity and clean lines. The kind of funky classics you could keep in your closet for years.
The store also sells great accessories including unique necklaces and rings and belts. Plus there are also some quirkier items like hand hooked throw pillows and paper mobiles with nature themes. I found a very nice hand cream to put on my Christmas wish list.
Although the prices are definitely on the higher side, the service did not reflect the price point. I was met with a friendly greeting and no pressure, leaving me to browse the beautiful surroundings and wares in peace. Even if you can only afford to browse, be sure to pay a visit.Listed in: 30 Day Yelp Challenge
