I'm one of those people who doesn't actually like Greek food. Everyone I share this with expresses extreme disbelief - like it's something I'd bother to lie about. Then they start rattling off the names of restaurants I absolutely MUST try.
"Opa."
Did that a few times, didn't like it.
"Athens."
Heavens, no! I've been there twice - both were a punishment for being hungry.
Inevitably the discussion leads to, "you can't possibly NOT like Greek food."
Hey, what can I say? I'm a rare and wondrous creature. I hang out with centaurs and unicorns and I'm pretty sure they don't like Greek food, either.
But ... and there is definitely a but here, cuz I love this restaurant. The service is always great and the food is terrific. So it turns out, it's NOT All Greek To Me - this one is a rare gem that sets itself apart from a group of restaurants that (in my humble opinion) feature under-flavored food that is over-cooked and over-priced.
Unfortunately, It's All Greek To Me has me stuck in a rut. I always order the same thing - the souvlaki pitas. I feel boring and predictable, but they're yummy, so if it ain't broke... -

I like Greek food, very much.
I have been to It's All Greek to Me a few times. The first time I had the Yemista and ate so much I could not move. It was great! Yesterday, we were in for lunch and I could not decide on an item so I got the platter which included (but not limited too) spanikopita, dolmades and pita points with 3 dips. It was rather tasty. The Spanikopita was extremely flakey, but very good. The dolmades lacked some spice though, unfortunately. The bf had the chicken souvlaki accompanied with some frsh homemade fries which he enjoyed.
I find the menu small, without a lot of options although menu items are priced reasonably, our billl came to $35 ish.
The restaurant was lovely, the decor is very welcoming and cozy and our server was fabulous and very attentive.Listed in: Flavours of the World

Be still my heart!
We went the way of ordering from their Express Menu which you can find on their website listed above. Delivery took about 35 minutes at peak hours and I live out in Fairview so it's impressive they even came out here. Now on to the good stuff! The food and prices!
I rarely eat potatoes. We just don't get along. I make two exceptions: Christmas dinner and Greek places cause good liftin' they're good. The salads were fantastic, the rice delightful and the Soulvakis (lamb and chicken) were divine. My days in Halifax are numbered but this is deffo a place I'll be bringing friends to before I leave. Excellent on every level. -

I absolutely LOVE this place.
After living away for some time and always having to hear from my friends how much they love It's All Greek To Me, I knew it was a place I had to dine. My girlfriends and I now make it a regular place to meet up for a delicious meal.
The atmosphere is charming; it's small, but no one minds that you're in close quarters with other diners. The staff are outstanding - every member of the team welcomes you in, and makes you feel at home.
And, of course the food! The food is, in my opinion, the best greek food in town. I'm no expert of course, but if I'm going for greek, this is the only place I'll consider!Listed in: Date Night!, Ethnic Eats, Quinpool Favs

A recipe for success in the restaurant business? Care about your food. Really... care... about.. your... food. Also hire good staff and treat them with respect..
This place does it right- delicious, fresh, quality ingredients; and owners who run a tight ship. Been going here for over four years now. Never been disappointed. Excellent calamari, lamb souvlaki dinner, and home made desserts.
The baklava is like heaven when the roses are in bloom. Yum Yum. Triple Yum. -

I've only recently become hooked on greek fare (sheltered childhood), and my newfound addiction was happily fed tonight, during my first visit to this delightful restaurant. The decor is quite charming, even homey. Our server was very sweet and attentive, and our food and drinks came promptly, especially considering that they were fairly busy at the time.
I ordered the grilled salmon with rice, lemon roasted potatoes, and a greek salad, and it was all delicious. The salmon was cooked perfectly, moist and tender, and the potatoes in particular were mouth wateringly tasty. Mike had the lamb souvlakia, which came with the same three side dishes as mine, and he was very pleased with his meal as well.
Way to go, "It's All Greek to Me", it's all tasty too!Listed in: Greekin' Out

Love this place !!! Growing up in Toronto, on the Danforth ( Greektown ) kinda makes me an expert on Greek food. OK, expert might be a stretch but I have eaten in more Greek restaurants then I can recall.
This place gets massive points on decor, menu and service. The owner is usually around and greets people, even making first timers feel like regulars.
The menu is vast enough to accommodate all taste and eating disorders. Portions are a healthy size with good presentation. I can do without the toasted bread that accompanies the glasses of water prior to the order, but hey that's just me.
There was a time many moons ago when you only had one choice for good Greek food in Halifax, Opa had it locked down. That said, both restaurants are a completely different experience and both very good. This one is a quaint individual place small in size, yet still packs a punch with good energy and a cool vibe.
I'm guessing 10 or so visits to Its All Greek To Me without a bad or even average meal, is the number one reason why I'll be back. -

One of my fave Greek restaurants in the city (and I'm picky - considering I grew up on souvlaki and pastichio).
Their dip platters are great for sharing, tasty souvlaki and calamari (my favourite).
You can also have dinner parties catered by them.
The best thing about this place though is the atmosphere. The manager/ head waiter treats every single guest like he is welcoming them into his own home. Love. -

My first Greek cuisine experience! This place came highly recommended from a friend, and I can see why.
The service was great, and our waiter was always on his toes and available when we needed him. We started with incredibly delicious tzatziki dip, and then I ordered the musakka. When I ordered, I accidently requested "Mufassa" with gusto, and then I was teased for the rest of the meal. Languages are clearly not my strong point.
The restaurant has a great Greek feel, and would make a lovely place to take a first date. Prices are mid-range to expensive, however, so I wouldn't recommend it for those on a tight budget. -

Its All Greek to Me is a flavourful spot with lots of energy. There are some delicious veggie options and an always fresh 'n tasty appeal.
Try the dips, they are fantastic. I've ordered the melizanosalata (eggplant, garlic and olive oil) and the hummus-- both a real treat. The overall menu offers a pretty good range for meat eaters and veggies alike. Whether lamb, beef, or veggie is your desire, its all cooked up in high impact flavour.
Service is pretty steady. I do not protest to efficient and friendly service. If you're craving Greek, give this place a go. -

It's all the best Greek to me and everyone I know agrees!
It's All Greek To Me is the best Greek restaurant in the city! We all went for a friend's birthday and had the best time thanks to the amazing staff, wonderful food, and great pricing this place has!
The food is the best, freshest, and highest quality I have had in the city. And I have gone to quite a few Greek restaurants. I had the Spanakopita which was thick and had flavor all over it!
My friend Jen has some health concerns so she needed to ask for certain things to be taken off her dishes. Normally, no matter what restaurant we all go to, when Jen asks for certain things to be taken off her plate, they always forget to take off one item and so she has to ask them to take it back. But at It's All Greek To Me, the cooks had it right the very first time! This has never happened before and I advised her to buy a lottery ticket afterwards because this was obviously a very special, lucky occasion.
After we ate the wonderful food, they gave my friend a plate that read "Happy Birthday Charlene," on it. She was told that she could then take it outside and smash it which is of course tradition, or keep it. She's a smasher so we knew what she would choose.
I can't say enough good things about It's All Greek To Me. For years we have found restaurants that had great food, but were too pricey. Or cheap places with bad food. Or great service with bad food etc.... It's All Greek To Me does Greek food perfectly! I have never heard a bad thing from anyone I have met and after going there, I know why. If you are in the mood for Greek, there is only one place to go. -

First of all, if it's your birthday, they let you smash a plate on the floor of the entryway - how awesome is that?!
Second of all, the owner is friendly, friendly, friendly and treats everyone like they are his best friend without seeming the least bit smarmy.
Third of all, they have flaming cheese. Flaming cheese! Once, the waiter nearly singed the ceiling, the flames flew so high (plus he was carrying it over his head). I know other Greek restaurants have flaming cheese too, but here, they do it with real, uh...flare.
Oh, and the food is delicious, Fresh, flavourful. Probably the best Greek in the city. A little pricier, but worth it.
And by the way, it's often really difficult to get in here without a reservation, so plan ahead. -

Even though it's not my favorite of the many Greek restaurants in this city, It's All Greek To Me (or as my sister call it, simply "Greek Me") is certainly high up on the list.
There is something about the white and blue decor that makes this restaurant stand out from the rest of the sometimes dreary looking buildings on Quinpool Road, and the inside is just as bright.
I was lucky enough to get a seat next to the fireplace last time I stopped in and with the music playing and chatter from neighbouring tables I almost though I was at home enjoying a meal. Then my meal arrived and it became clear I wasn't home because mom's Greek cooking is limited to scooping hummus from a carton, and this hummus tasted very fresh.
Although I haven't tried any, rumour has it that "Greek Me" has a great wine list and even eight choices from the homeland, Greece itself. I can only imagine at what expense, but if the rest of the prices are any indication you'll probably be fine in the pocketbook.
Hot Hint: As mentioned, tell someone on staff that it's your birthday and you get to celebrate in Greek tradition by breaking a plate. -

Despite all the rave reviews, somehow we had missed taking in It's All Greek To Me. We remedied that last night, as we decided to stop in for take-out after doing the weekend grocery run.
I called my order in and about a half-hour later, we arrived to pick it up. First of all, we found a parking spot directly outside the restaurant - always a good omen.
As we approached the restaurant, we were greeted with lively Greek music the likes of which we hadn't heard since Greekfest the year before.
Stepping inside, though, set our first impression on it's ear. Instead of the boisterous atmosphere we'd expected, we entered a quiet and subdued dining room. Lit by votive candles strategically placed around the room, the glassware and cutlery positively glistened. A server came over immediately and when we gave our name, scurried back into the kitchen to determine the status of our order. A scant five minutes later, we had paid for our food and were headed home.
Once at home, we dove into the bags of food. (Yes, bags-with-an-s: we don't do Greek food half-way!) The Greek salad, although light on olives and tomatoes, had feta generously spread throughout. The house dressing was perfectly seasoned, with an excellent olive oil base. We enjoyed the piping hot pita wedges with the zesty tzatziki, and then moved on to the main course. We'd each gotten a souvlaki plate - mine lamb, his chicken. The rice and potato sides were incredible; the rice must have been cooked with broth (and there was sautéed onion throughout), and the potatoes had been marinated before roasting. My lamb was a little bland, but still delicious and the same went for my boyfriend's chicken.
We each thought that the sheer volume of food should mean that we saved some for later but in truth we couldn't do it: we had to gobble up the entire dish in one sitting, it was just. that. good.
It's All Greek To Me gets five stars from me, as much for the service as the food. I can't wait to go back and have a sit-down meal in their dining room (perhaps in the summer, as Lacey says!).
Tip: It's All Greek To Me Express is the take-out and delivery side of the restaurant, and they do take debit on delivery. -

For my second review of this Greek taverna, I'm opting for the same four star rating. Yesterday, I went in for an early lunch to find the place completely empty. I suppose we were there early around 11:30am, so I wasn't much surprised when the crowds started swarming around noon.
My table mates both chose the veggie souvlaki with Greek salad, as did I, and decided to just stick with lemon water for the sipping portion of the visit. Our meals took a little longer than I may have anticipated, but arrived before I started wondering if maybe they'd been lost on the way.
The portions appeared small: the salad was in a ramekin, topped with only two cherry tomatoes and one olive, while the pita, wrapped in paper, didn't look very bountifully stuffed on the large plate. I understand that the lunch size salad isn't designed to be monstrous, but if it's a Greek salad, I expect an ample amount of the veggies specific to this dish.
The pita was warm and fluffy, and the roasted veggies inside were crisp and fresh. The taziki hit a home run, and the all encompassing garlic zest was quite refreshing. I enjoyed my meal and felt satisfied upon scooping up the last mouthful; however, I think the meal would have benefited if it was taken up just a notch. I few more veggies in the salad and pita really would have made the meal pop.
The service, as always, was professional and attentive, and the space was bright and clean. I always enjoy myself at this Quinpool Road locale, but if it's to be a five star, they need to up the ante on veggie portion sizes and herbivore offerings.1 Previous Review: Show all »

It's All Greek To Me probably goes through more plates in a night than I will in my entire life. If it's your birthday you get to smash a plate on the floor as the room looks on a shouts "Opa!" I wonder how many people have lied about it being their birthday just to experience that satisfaction?
It's wonderful traditions like this and probably the most genuinely friendly owner I have ever met that set It's All Greek To Me apart from most of the restaurants on Quinpool Road and the city in general. I don't think I've ever met a friendlier owner of an establishment. He makes an effort to greet every patron and works hard to get them a seat when it's busy (I've experienced this a few times).
The food is delicious. I've never been to Greece, but everybody claims this is as authentic as it gets in Halifax. It makes me want to book a trip across the sea to check it out. The food is a little pricey, but the experience and quality make it absolutely worth every penny.
If you show up and it's too busy they also have a take out menu, so there's no excuse for not grabbing a bite from this place! If it's all Greek to you, then It's All Greek To Me is *!
* loosely translates into most excellent...unless my Greek is sloppier than I ever imagined! -

Now this is what I am talking about. Great portions as well as great prices. Being a chicken lover myself I went for the Chicken Souvlaki with rice and their special potato's. I thought when it was first served that they were boiled until I placed one into my mouth and my tasted buds went wild, they are delicious.
My friend that was with me had the baked Mediterranean Haddock which must have been good by the way that he devoured it. This special fish is not offered often as it is oven baked BUT if you book a reservation then you can request this.
Open Monday to Saturday from 11am to 10pm you can hit this busy hot spot or they even have a take out menu.. -

I do love this restaurant. The food is delicious and really the closest I've come to the Greek food I'm used to in Toronto - on the Danforth, better known as Greek Town and Montreal - where so many of the older generation still only speak Greek. Needless to say, it's hard to find a place that lives up to my expectations.
It's all Greek to Me does it in spades. The food is fresh and delicious and the staff very friendly - the owner always about and eager to please. Everyone feels like family by the time your order is place.
So say "OPA!" and head over for a couple of hours in sunny Greece - even if it's only for a couple of hours. -

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Halifax, and definitely my favorite Quinpool establishment. I am so glad to have such great Greek food in my neighborhood, and they even have a home delivery menu!
The owner and staff are so friendly, and the space has a really great cosey atmosphere.
The food is fresh and delicious, and the portions are big. You wont find better Greek food in Halifax for this price. I am a huge fan of the moussaka, which is always done to perfection. I'm always thrilled to see taramasolata on the starters list, which is my favorite dip. Its a hard consistency and texture to do right, but they always get it spot on.
I have also ordered home delivery once; they have a separate menu which is paired down, but they put on some extra souvlaki pita options for only $6.95. I tried my usual favorites, and one of the lamb souvlaki pitas, which not surprisingly, was also amazing.
Its all Greek to me is comparable to Opa, but with slightly lower prices and in my opinion, a much nicer atmosphere.
If you like Greek food, you will adore this restaurant! -

I'm not sure whether It's All Greek To Me or Opah is the best Greek restaurant in Halifax but I love the atmosphere at IAGTM. Its warm and cozy and lively. Excellent food every time.
