Review from Ernie B.
Burnaby, BC
Noticed it while driving by and went in for lunch.
As noted by Joyce, the place is small. Seems to be a blend of restaurant and cafe.
Had the oxtail for lunch, which was really good. Only thing is that an medium oxtail lunch with a bottle of ting ran me over $20. Pretty pricey for lunch. For dinner, this price seems fine, but they could really do for some $12 lunch specials (that said, the do have daily specials for $9).
I'll go back for dinner. -

Burnaby, BC
Jamaica me happy!
Jumped cartwheels when I noticed the new hole in the wall across from Metrotown thinking my prayers were answered and I wouldn't have to trek down to Commercial Drive for my patty fix anymore!
Lets just say there is no quick fix in this life so I might just have to incorporate both now.
Island Grill brings a new meaning to tiny with no more than 3 tables in the place but the flavour is definitely there with vibrant colours and design.
Being from Toronto I can truthfully say I have tasted the best when it comes to authentic island fare and have been bitterly disappointed with BC's attempt at recreating it until tonight.
The menu covers a wide range from oxtail, jerk chicken, curry goat and probably anything else that moves but its the patties that put a smile on my face. Whenever I try one it is like tempting fate but this version was damm good! Just the right tease of spices and the proper texture combined with a tender not dry crust. Me likey!
Now the downer was the price and while I know restaurants especially small ones have to make a profit does it have to be 400%?
I have never paid more than 1.50 or $2 for one and choked a little when it came up to $9.85 for two.
Whoa Nelly!
After a quick HST calculation in my mind, they were still overpriced and it would definitely have to be a real strong craving to visit this haunt on a regular basis.
Good yes, pricey yes but worth a trip to Jamaica via Burnaby.
