I have been seeing Erin-Leigh at IS Salon since I moved to Vancouver 5 years ago and have never been disappointed. I was worried I would never find a stylist as good as the one I had in Victoria, but thankfully I was wrong. I have a LOT of hair and anways had trouble finding someone who could cut it properly (and thin it out), but Erin-Leigh has always done a fabulous job with the cut and colour.
She is great at offering ideas and suggestions for trying something new and is very good at listening to what I want and always makes sure I am happy with the results. It is so obvious that she has a natural eye and talent for hair styling and loves what she does!
I regularly have people comment on my hair stop me on the street to ask me where I get my hair done. And the best part is that Erin-Leigh is so easy-going and fun and makes me feel like i'm visiting with a friend. Go and see her!

I LOVE MALISSA she is my hair guru from IS.Salon.
I moved to the lover mainland 7 years ago. Finding a new hairstyles, was very difficult. I've tried some of my friends recommendations, some were OK, some were too expensive, some were just plain BAD. Nobody I fell inlove with! Before moving to the lower mainland, I went to the same person for 10 years and she was fabulous, I only trusted her with my hair. But since my visit back home to Winnipeg was only once or twice a year, my hair was starting to need some love. I realized with all this rain my hair needed more frequent love.
Thank goodness for people who write reviews!! I started google salons (I Know, CRAZY RIGHT!!) I was desperate what can I say. And I kept reading about this girl (Malissa) who spells her name with an "A". So I took my chance and booked an appointment.
I loved my first cut and colour with her, and I had so many complements!! To me what makes a really good haircut and colour is how is grows out... I loved it even more.. my hair kept growing into different styles I just loved it. She also gives free bang trimming which I took advantage of. I also found her pricing very reasonable. and not too pushy with products.
The salon it self it great and big lots of stylist, great products. -

Yep, hair magic. I am hooked, is. Salon (and Malissa) have my undying loyalty.
Went back for another cut/style (months longer than I should have waited, man I was looking shaggy) and with a few deft flicks of the wrist, Malissa once again transformed me. I swear I hardly saw her cut anything, but the difference was dramatic. I have never been so happy with a hair stylist in my life, I absolutely love my hair now.
And while she was working, she cheerfully explained more awesome science-y stuff about products and hair follicles and different methods of styling, cutting, etc and why/how they work. Never lecturing, just helpful tips and tricks (and the all important 'WHY it works') to keep my hair looking lovely at home. Science, it works!
The rest of the staff was super nice and friendly, and I find myself liking the space more with each visit (warm wood floor, big sunny windows). If the complimentary wine isn't your style, they have some nice teas and coffee to perk up your day. Additionally, they have a solid selection of high end salon products (Orofluido, the Moroccan Oil line, etc)
Not for the faint of wallet, but oh-so-worth-it! My hair has never been this healthy or looked so good for so long. Keeping my fingers crossed that Malissa and is. Salon are around for a long time to come!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Malissa disappeared from Bangtown and I was sad! But hooray we had found one another again at Is. Salon in Yaletown.
So, Yaletown may not be my regular haunt, but her prices are the same and this modern salon was friendly and welcoming. Don't be afraid, its not too fancy-shmancy!
But really, this review is for Malissa. She is an amazing stylist because she listens, is thorough and actually cares about you leaving with a result that you are happy with that also looks good.
She really took the time to do all the extra little things to bring my hair back to life and the maximise the life of the cut and color. She also offered free bang trims between visits.
She recommended some great product (but not in the "I-just-want-you-to-buy-some-extra-crap" kind of way) and gave me some great info on the products she used on my hair through the visit.
Plus, she's just a cool girl and a good conversationalist. The complimentary wine didn't hurt either.
My hair feels amazing. Check her out, she's killer. -

The first time i came to this salon was because my friend told me your first visit would be half off but they did not offer me that and said it was because the girl had cutted her hair was the owner erin so w.e i paid the full price but wasnt exactly satisfied ... & still I've been to this salon for a few times and also introduced my friends to this salon because they do an ok job but I think the results is just ok for the price they charge. I always explain and describe what I need or want but they still can't deliver because I have very thick hair. So every time I go there I spend about $75-100+ and still see no difference. They always explain and tell me to come back because my hair is this & that and they can't do much so they basically gave me a trim & wash every time for the price of $70-100 per cut. I think I rather go to another place.

i have been getting my hair cut by Malissa at is Salon and wanted to write a review on how much I appreciate her and her work.
have you ever had problems with stylists- asking them to only trim off a cm of your length and they cut four inches off!? Malissa won't do that to you. you are in safe hands because she listens and what you want is what you will get. plus she is lotsa fun to converse with :)
