I absolutely love coming to the Iron Goat. The views from anywhere inside or outside the building are just incredible. I have yet to eat anything here that I have been disappointed with.

Upon walking in through the huge heavy doors, you are greeted with quite an open space. I really like how they have the place laid out - the upper floor doesn't diminish the lower floor (like it can in some restaurants). With a large, vaulted ceiling and one side of the building completely windowed, there is always a beautiful view of the mountains outside (if the weather cooperates).

I will state this though - if you don't like your Guinness in a can, don't buy it here. Many of the beers they have available come in a can.

It's one of a few places I like to get to if I can when I'm in Canmore. Highly recommended.

This was my first visit to the Iron Goat after hearing several good things about the restaurant.
I came with my mother and young daughter for lunch and was able to get a table with a nice view of the mountains. The lunch selection is mostly sandwiches and pizza and I was a little disappointed that I didn't see any salads on the menu.
I ended up ordering the Turkey Club sandwich, which was made with a turkey patty instead of actual slices of turkey breast, and a side salad. My mother ordered the Roast Brisket sandwich with a side of fries. I have to say my Turkey Club wasn't bad but seeing as I am a fan of the original version I wasn't keen on the patty instead of actual turkey. There was nothing wrong with it, but it just wasn't to my taste. The side house salad was fresh and flavorful. However, the Brisket sandwich was really good. It came on a focaccia bread with creamy coleslaw on top that complimented the meat really well. The fries were tasty but not homemade.
The waitress was decent but didn't really do more than take our order, check on us once and provide the bill. No friendly smile, or even friendly conversation occurred.
The food was good, the view was very good and the service acceptable. I will go back and try it again and hope that we get better service next time.

Went here with family during a holiday ski trip. Made a reservation, only to arrive and find that they didn't have enough tables yet. Had to get drinks in the bar and wait for a table.

Food was good, but very expensive for what you get. For one of our apps we ordered the crab claws, which was a MAJOR mistake as there was hardly any meat in any of them. My steak was good but I shouldn't have paid $5 for the extra sauteed mushrooms, which were flavorless. I should have talked with the chef and schooled him on how to properly prepare sauteed mushrooms.

The Iron Goat for me is a "must stop" in Canmore.  The food is good, but honestly, that is not the appeal for me.  The appeal, is the stunning, STUNNING view!

When you take the nordic center exit to get into Canmore, instead of turning "right" to go downtown, take a left. :)  About half way up the hill on the left, you will see the Iron Goat, with its large windows, and rugged elegance.  Even though the food is tasty there, the primarily reason I go, is for that view.

I have had, and sampled a few of their appetizers over a few visits, including their mountain spinach salad, mahi-mahi nicoise plate, goat cheese pastilla and bruschetta two ways.

The Goat Cheese Pastilla was absolutely delcious, but quite frankly, I didn't know what it was when I ordered. The menu highlighted lots of yumminess, but I didn't quite realize it was wrapped in pastry (my bad), so for me, it was a delicious, mouth watering calorie bomb, that I likely will not indulge in again, due to the guilt and shame.

The Mahi Mahi plate looked amazing!  I had a sample of it off my friend's plate, but the presentation was unbelievable.  On a long, thin, grilled mahi-mahi, new potatoes, tomato, hard-boiled egg,
green beans, olives and dijon vinaigrette. It looks healthy, tasty and of course, very fancy. :)

What's even cooler, is that the prices are not unreasonable.  I have paid more for an entre at chain restaurants such as Earls and Moxie's in Calgary, than I have seen on the Iron Goat menu.  That is not intended to be a shot at some of our chains, it is more a comparison.  Considering I am perched on the side of a mountain, I would expect more of a premium.  Entres in the $15-$30 range are not uncommon on the Iron Goat menu.

If you are just looking for a pint, some appies, a gormet pizza, or a delicious meal, definately consider the Iron Goat.  As mentioned, it's a "must stop" for me.  If I'm going to eat, I may as well enjoy good food, and a breathtaking view.

Found this place from a friend as its tucked away on the opposite side to the main drag of Canmore.

Its kind of a theme style bar/restaurant, been here only twice so I'm still sat on the fence as a reviewer!

Right the location is just fantastic, they have a patio heated dining area which is quite big and the view of the three sisters is just bob on!
Inside its quite open plan but the tables aren't too close that your watching what you say or indeed listening to others (not that I advocate that kind of thing)
There is an upstairs which I haven't seen so I'm not sure if its a reserved thing or if there is a separate menu choice, the menu is pretty good and covers quite a lot of taste and here is were I'm  sat on the fence.

First time here I wanted to try the Elk Steak as we were eating quite late, it came with a Maple Glaze which just didn't work, really good soft tender meat with like a glaze that was as hard as nails.
Second time was early afternoon so it was a salad, which was Ok.

I have taken a look at the menu on-line and from what I can see they seem to change things around quite a lot so maybe I got something that they were trying out, the prices are pretty good for the location, so for me I'm keeping the review open ended and will give the Iron Goat a bit more time and see what else it has to offer.

If you are in the area I would really give this place a look, the food needs more reviews!!!!

This restaurant was spectacular.  I have been in and around Canmore quite a bit this week and this place had really good pizza and ribs.  The service was exceptional, and that is saying a lot!  If you are only in Canmore for a night, go to the Iron Goat.....And make sure to try their ice cream, it is truly one of a kind and delicious!!!
