I don't usually like iHop, but this location wasn't too bad.
The staff are all friendly.
Great that it's 24 hours, not so great that...their service is a bit slow at those late hours, which makes sense. And the food? It's decent :) -
Review from Deena B.
Corona, CA
It's been while since I've taken the time to report a restaurant experience...good or bad, but my dining experience today at the fairly new iHop Restaurant in Torrance deemed it necessary for me to report.
My husband and I stopped at this iHop for breakfast today as I was on my way to work and it was located between the hotel that we stayed at last night and my job. Ordinarily the businesses in this area are known to be of better quality and service due to the area and the clientele that they serve. Nonetheless we entered the restaurant and were seated probably within 20 mins of arriving. The hostess first seated us at a table that was located by the bathroom and I asked to be seated somewhere else even if it meant we would have to wait a little while longer. Note...I just believe that seating in restaurants shouldn't ever be located directly by the bathroom or kitchen; it just does something to my dining experience to say the least...I won't ever sit by either one and usually will inform the waitress that I wouldn't like a table in these areas.
When we were seated we first noticed that there were alot of food and stuff on the floor, which appeared to not have been cleaned since the last customers. We didn't say anything and just overlooked it. I ordered the "Pick a Pancake" breakfast and ordered my eggs scrambled with cheese, green onions, spinach, and tomotoes. It took them some time to prepare our food so to say the least we were HUNGRY. When the waitress brought my order, she hadn't provided any butter for my pancakes, ketchup on the table, and I also had to ask for extra napkins...I know the last one is pretty common but you can tell alot about a good waitress that just knows the common things to ask or bring. As for my eggs, there was no green onions and it was filled with green peppers. I said to the waitress did they have green onions, and she explained that they didn't. I then told her that green peppers under no circumcstances was a substitute for green onions; especially since I didn't order that. She took the eggs and had them redone. The waitress, by the way who name was Delorian, asked my husband if he wanted some more orange juice, and he replied yes. About ten minutes later we heard her ask the group next to us if they wanted more orange juice, they replied yes, was provided more OJ, but husband still hadn't receive his re-fill.
The waitress returned with my eggs, which by the way wasn't cooked as fluffly as the first order but was ok, and we then reminded her about the OJ re-fill. I was drinking water, but she didn't notice that I needed a re-fill either...oh well I thought. The last interesting thing is I saw the manager, Mark, walking around and asking customers if they were ok, but he never looked in our direction. Our waitress had then been gone about 15-20 mins. to which I told my husband if we wanted to stiff them on the bill; now would be a good time as no one even noticed us sitting there. I finally made eye contact with the waitress and she then remembered to get our check, no not come see if we needed anything else, but proceeded to get out check. When she returned I asked her if they were short staff that day, and she replied that they were short two servers. I explained to her my concerns and she politely apologized on behalf of the establishment and noted that this wasn't common for them.
When we approached the register two hostesses standing there asked if everything was ok (Why did they ask me that) and I replied no it wasn't and again proceeded to tell them my concerns about our first dining experience at this iHop. One hostess responded that that was the first time that she had ever heard any complaints. I asked her how long had she been working there, and she replied 3 wks. I chuckled and said, I guess the first time this had happen just happened to be to us and our first visit. I also expressed my feelings about the manager and that I found it interesting that possibly the people that he spoke to were regular customers and I noted that managing is not about assisting only the customers that you are familiar with, but all customers.
To our waitress, Delorian, defense she did give us a 20% discount off our check, which after looking at our receipt ended up being more of a 15% cause she never took the bellpeppers off our receipt...yes that's right they had the nerve to charge us for the green peppers. We pay enough for eating out, I just think that it's worth the time to note the quality of the service restaurants offer be-it good or bad. Delorian did ask us to give them another chance to show us that they are a good servicing iHop...I don't know, but I'll keep that in mind.

How does IHOP get packed at 530pm on a weeknight? 30+ mins for a table and 20-30+ mins for a togo order?
I've been to this IHOP location a handful of times to actually order some takeout (my usual New York Cheesecake Pancake). The service isn't that bad, but I just can't stand the wait when you're in a rush to pick up some specialty pancakes. The parking lot is always so crowded at all times of day! Their bathrooms are kind of dirty dirty also..... -

Been here a few times and not impressed. EXTREMELY slow service and to boot we tried to get a to go order 15 minutes before they closed and they said no because no one was inside and they were pretty much closed for business. Hours of operation are for service up until the closing time. Not being cleaned up and closed at exactly that time.

This location is okay....the food was decent and the service was prompt. However, this place was DIRTY! our table and our seats had food residue. The noise level is insane and you see kids screaming everywhere.
I had the steak omelette which was very starchy and filling. I wouldn't recommend it if you're not that hungry though because again...it's quite starchy. Also, the pancakes were delicious. You can't go wrong with their pancakes!
Overall, I had to say that the experience overruled any good feelings the food could have brought to me. Next time will be better hopefully =/ -

It's an IHOP, don't expect too much.
You have you average pancakes, average eggs, really oily bacon and sausage, and dry hash browns. That being said, prices are a little bit on the expensive side for what you get. A Two x Two x Two combo runs you about a little over $8 after tax and tip, which isn't exactly expensive but for that I'd rather go to McDonald's across the street and eat like a glut. Guess the only reason to come here is that there is usually never any wait, the service is quite snappy, and you want a place to sit and eat your breakfast. -

Pancakes - 5 stars. I only order a short stack of 3 buttermilk pancakes when we come here. The pancakes are always perfectly cooked, light and fluffy. My hubby usually gets some kind of omelet, which he usually doesn't finish because the portions are so big. He is usually happy with the meal. Their menus list calorie count if you're into that type of thing.
Atmosphere - 2 stars. This location is really popular for some reason with seniors. Even though this restaurant is small and cramped, large groups like to pile in. It is extremely busy and noisy before 10:30 during the week.
Parking - not a problem. It's in a large strip mall. -

I came in here late at night with two friends. I was seated immediately, but didn't receive water for 45 minutes (what a joke). Finally, the manager on duty brought us water and took our order. 40 minutes later.... still no food.
I talked to the manager on duty and said if our food hadn't been made yet, we would be leaving. She said our food was on the window and would be coming out. I walked back to my table... 20 minutes later and still no food. At this point I was about to lose it because she lied and said our food was ready.
Finally our appetizer comes out and my friend mentions that it is too salty. The manager over-hears, walks over to our table and says, "If the quality of our food is not up to your standards I can cancel the rest of your order".
My food comes out 10 minutes later and the order is completely wrong. I ordered a crepe, eggs, and 4 sausages. I received pancakes, eggs, and 2 sausages. I was so mad at this point... I just wanted to leave.
I will never come here again. It should be illegal to spend over two hours in an IHOP. It wasn't even busy... we came late at night. Our meal ended up being free, but I would have rather paid $7 for my crepe and spent only 45 minutes in there. -

We were in a hurry to eat and be out of there, but man service was slowww today :(
The host noticed the seats were really dirty so he moved us to another booth, which was dirty as well. He explained it was just after the lunch rush was over so they were still cleaning...but still, multiple dirty booths, and not even getting a rag to sweep off food remnants from the previous guests? :( No bueno in my book.
I just had to scoot and find a non-greasy spot to sit on.
We ordered the chicken fajita omelette and garden omelette.
My garden omelette was HUGE but when I cut it up, I realized the filling was basically all egg and a mountain of cheese on top that it was really had to chew through all that cheese. There were a barely passable amount of veggies, and the bell peppers were diced into tiny, tiny pieces. The only thing that saved it were the tomato slices on top.
The pancakes were just your standard IHOP pancakes--dry and just OK.
The downside was that for two drinks and two omelettes, the meal came out to over $30 with tax and tip for lunch! I miss eating off the kid's menu (chocolate smiley pancakes, anyone?), but now I think it's time to move on... -

Went here today ( Labor Day ). Very Busy. Wait time was 20 minutes and it all started with:
Environment - Cramped. Whether it was busy or not I felt cramped. Seating was too close to eachother felt like a party of 50 instead of 3.
Service - expected the delay since it was Labor Day. Other than that our hostess and server were good. She paid attention to us even though it was busy as hell.
Food - I ordered some French Toast stuffed with cream cheese something something. It came with sausages, eggs, and hash browns. It was so good. I finished my meal for the first time. French toast stuffed with cream cheese reminded me of many cream pie moments.
Overall - Great minus the cramped seating. Stuffed with cream, sausage on the side, and a little bit of hash brown on the side was an all too familiar experience that you keep coming back to. -

For an IHOP, this place is pleasant and clean. Maybe because it just opened, or maybe because my hot hot hot friend Sylvia works there..
Unlimited coffee for 1.99 that is really tasty? Mmm. Butter Pecan Syrup? Even better.
But the BEST THING about this IHOP is the fact that I DIDN'T CRAP MY PANTS afterwards. eat that, denny's. -
Review from Hugo C.
My fellow members of the local Church of IHOP know what a struggle the last couple of years have been.
As soon as new owners invaded the Del Amo mall (i.e. Del Amo Fashion Center -- the 1980's called, they'd like their name back), they put the IHOP on Carson & Hawthorne on a month-to-month lease and, in the course of a year, shut it down to build a Crate & Barrel.
It was a loss to the congregation, but we fought on. That's what we learned from IHOP: you never quit (on finishing your plate), you keep going (until you finish or barf). We moved on to the location on Avalon & Carson. Sure, it was a bit ghetto and at times a bit shady. That didn't detract from our worship. We were there for a higher being, not even the usual group of 10 loud and irritating teenagers was going to keep us away. It's hard to describe the loss we experienced when we all drove by the Carson location only to feel dejection and bereavement at the boarded up windows that we found, instead of the enlightenment and sharpened sense of cognizance that we came looking for.
This IHOP that was built @ Crossroads seemed to be the silver lining -- we looked to it to be our new shepherd. I've never been more disappointed. The usual hustle and bustle of an IHOP full of character and love was seemingly replaced by an empty, sterile environment more reminiscent of an operating table.
I keep trying to make my way back, but each time I am greeted with a lackluster experience. The service staff is so bored from standing around with nothing to do most of the day that they forget the most basic service skill: pretending to be happy. I'd even be able to forgive that if I were able to place my attention elsewhere, but I can't even do that. This place is routinely empty. On numerous occasions, we're the only table in the entire damn place. The IHOP faithful have deemed this place to not be worthy of our worship.
Remember, the sign outside might say IHOP, but it's just a mirage. -

To sum up everyone else's reviews:
FOOD
- small portions
- mediocre quality
- not price-appropriate
ATMOSPHERE
- crammed space
- unplanned seating and organization
- lack of warm, welcoming diner vibe
- service could be better, but bearable
Growing up, I used to think going to IHOP was exciting, but this location is really just a hole in the wall. The size of the restaurant seems appropriate for a cafe, not a breakfast diner. If waiters and waitresses only have to move over a step to greet the next table, doesn't that say something to the owner? Apparently not. While I am a fan of their nutella crepes, high prices for sides because the -

Review from Leslie W.
I have always liked IHOP, but i hate their restaurants. They are real narrow and built for tiny people. This particular branch always seats people right next to each other instead of spreading people out. The result is my elbow in someone's syrup. I get involved in everyone else's conversations, too, because I don't have a choice, they are seated right next to me. I guess the strategy is making everyone part of a great big international family.
Forget that! :)
My niece and I stopped in a for a chicken sandwich. Well, that is what she initially wanted, but then she ended up getting 2 pancakes, 2 eggs and 2 sausage links. She really liked it. I was feeling like chicken fried steak, so I gave in to the craving. They have a larger size, so given the option, I went for it. Big mistake. The steak covered almost the whole plate. Think personal sized pizza, then go a bit bigger than that. It was covered with a gravy that was ok, but I ended up putting Tabasco all over it. I got the vegetables, which were just a little overcooked, but not terribly. Instead of mashed potatoes, I decided on "seasoned red skin potatoes." In my head, I was picturing whole red skin potatoes boiled and seasoned. The potatoes were fried and/or baked, it was hard to tell. I can't even say they were seasoned. They were highly disappointing.
The worst was the service. We waited for several minutes before the waiter brought us our drinks. The food came quickly, then he started bugging us. He literally came by every 3 minutes. I figured he wanted us to leave, so I took most of my food home, just to get out of there. The people next to me were sorry to see me go, as I enriched their dinner coversation. We're gonna hook up on Facebook, I'm sure. -

This location is tiny! But it is very clean. But every time we go (which is usually a week day night), it's usually empty. Sometimes even two people eating..sad. Weekends are much busier & usually there's a wait since it's so small. We used to go to the one on Avalon all the time, but this one's a lot closer to us. I just wish it was open 24 hours like how Avalon would be on certain days.
I love IHOP! The Ham & Cheese Melt gets me every time..way better than the Moons Over my Hammy at Denny's. I like their cheesesteak sandwich too. I'm a sucker for American food. But I over indulge their pancakes...ahhh...served hot & they smell oh so good. I love their seasonal pancakes that they serve. I remember a special blueberry one last year. That was to die for. I just have a special place in my heart for pancakes (or anything sweet in general). Mmm mm mm... -

This IHOP is located in a very promising eatery part of a large strip mall. We had been tempted to stop in for awhile to have a childhood throwback of when our parents would take us to the International House of Pancakes in other states. Mind you, we've been to other locations through recent years, but not this one. We decided to go yesterday for an early dinner. Let me FIRST say that the hostess/server was alone the entire time we were there trying to do it all. She was very pleasant. In the meanwhile, we noticed the manager (male .. so I don't get managers confused here) sitting in a little back office the entire time. It took a very long time to get our soup .. our entree ... refills and finally the check. It was painful. We were sitting near where the manager was in his office and we noticed that not once did he look out to see how things were going or if the one gal needed any assistance. The food was pure, thick sauce (think lots of thickening flour) ladened comfort food... served with even more starches on the same plate .. corn with mashed potatoes, covered in even more of the same sauce. The soup was a loaded potato soup (again so thick you could cut it) topped with sour cream and shredded cheese. All in all, it was not a good experience. The tables had empty coffee pots on them, menus strewn around, sticky tables from the breakfast syrups, etc. The second section of the restaurant (which faces the front windows) was closed off with the chairs flipped over on the tables. We thought the restaurant was closed when we walked up .. but it was just to show that THAT part of the restaurant was not being used and off limits. It was only 5-6pm on a Sunday! Just as we were leaving, another employee walked in for the later shift, I guess. Still no check-up by the manager sitting in his office. Unfortunately, I don't think we'll be back to this location.

All IHOPs are pretty much guaranteed to have the usual fare, pancakes, crepes, omelets and the like. The waiter was pleasant enough and the service was quick. The only cons are that the table wasn't cleaned very well and the wall had some random stuff on it that I was sitting next to...unpleasant.

The management at this location lies to their customers. The "fall promotion" of Pumpkin Pancakes runs from 10-03 to 01-03 each season.
On December 4, 2009, I took my mom to this location as I was jonesing for some Pumpkin Pancakes. I was told by the server that they were out but would have them the next day.
I called the next day to confirm that Pumpkin Pancakes were available as I was going to go back a 2nd day in a row for my favorite pancakes.
I was told by a staff member that the Pumpkin Pancakes are no longer available!
WTF?
The table tents states they run thru 01-03. I emailed the Corp Office thru their website and never heard back. I called the Corp Office and told them that I never heard back from my complaint.
I was told that the location manager would call me. Yeah right, you have a complaint and the location manager is going to call and resolve the issue.
The Corp Office re-flagged my complaint and again sent it to the location manager to call me.
It's been 10 days. The liar hasn't called. Why? Because he knows its a damn lie that Pumpkin Pancakes ARE available and he doesn't e to balls to come clean and tell me that he lied, and that Pumpkin Pancakes ARE available.
So, I'm letting everyone out there in YELP LAND know that the manager of this location is a g-d liar!
Keep Pumpkin Pancakes on the menu as your supposed to thru 01-03!!
If the management can't be honest about keeping promotions on their menu - what else are they lying about or hiding.
I don't recommend this location due to management prone to lies. -
