Review from John I.
Toronto, ON
High quality establishment with cleanliness and layout as key benefits. Lobby was nice and well appointed. Service in lobby (including doormen) was excellent and always on guard. There were no issues getting cabs and the doormen were friendly and respectful. Front desk staff was solid with no major issues. The concierge was decent, but unfortunately lacked that superior insight on the sights and sounds of Toronto. Also, the concierge's hours were less than optimal and it seemed liked no one else had any knowledge on those types of matters than he.
Rooms were spacious with newer furnishings and good sized television. Very poor channel availability and thus a failing grade on this one. Not great for business or professional travelers. Beds were fairly comfortable and room temperature was reasonable.
Location was excellent if you desire the Yorkville area. If you want to take a cab into the downtown area, be prepared for a $15 cab ride.
I recommend Intercontinental Hotel Toronto at or below $200 per night. -

Staying at this place while in town for a conference. High quality place? HAH!
Ummmmm there is black mold in the shower! All over! EW! I was completely blown away when I found black mold all throughout the shower. Shouldn't hotel showers get cleaned multiple times a week. Gross.
The bed had no sheets. What's up with that?!? If you enjoy no sheets and think blankets wrapped in paper towels is heaven, this is your place. The comforter literally felt like a paper towel. And I wanted a sheet because sometimes a thick comforter is just too much.
Oh and free wifi? Um noooo they charge you for that. I was really overall disappointed in this place. Perhaps I hyped it up too much as I figured a "high end 4 1/2 star restaurant" would have a bit higher standards. I have been way more impressed with a Holiday Inn Express. Service room please! -

Having stayed at a gazillion of Intercontinental hotels worldwide (thanks to the friends and family discount) expectations were high. Unfortunately I was slightly disappointed with how old and ordinary the hotel was.
The lobby was small and unimpressive, the hotel restaurant looked depressingly empty the entire time we were there, and the corridors were in need of a touch up (not a major overhaul, just a touch up!). And call me strange, but the best thing about checking into a new hotel is the anticipation when I open the door to my room. I just couldn't wait to see what the room looks like. This one, to put it bluntly, was a let-down.
Despite the above, everything was in working order, everyone was extremely nice and helpful, it is located in the nicer part of town and the stay was overall very pleasant.
But if you're looking for amenities like the Intercontinental Bali (http://www.intercontin...), or the (relatively) brand new Intercontinental Boston (http://www.intercontin...), like me, you'll be in for a disappointment. -

-Great location - right on the main drag and a great assortment of shopping and restaurants within 5 minutes.
-Minutes away from the Stillwater Spa at the Park Hyatt which my wife enjoyed.
-The ROM is right across the street
-The room was decent but as a few others have noted, its quite odd to not have a flat screen in your room when 2011 is less then a month away.
-While we didn't eat at the restaurant in the hotel, we did stop in the Proof Vodka Bar, great drinks and some decent appetizers.
-For the price and location, I'd stay here again.
I will caution in that while we were on the 8th floor, and could still "hear" the subway, it was very mild, but if your not accustomed to some outside noise... -

Above and beyond service at the InterCont. I'll get to that after I rave on the other features.
- Convenient to Yorkville -- all the restaurants and shops within a 5 min walk.
- Awesome view of ROM
- Best PILLOW selection ever. I had 7 pillows of varying firmness, all with very pretty French matellase cotton pillowcases!
My friends were visiting TO from NYC, and had the misfortune of leaving a passport on the plane. this dawned on said friend on the Sunday morning before departure.
The front desk and the concierge desk were like SHERLOCK and WATSON, calling Pearson, Montreal, Air Canada-- even Canada and US customs!!! All was done with complete professionalism and empathy. Let's face it-- losin' the passport is irresponsible but the team there made it truly a team effort. They even printed out application forms and helped us secure an appt at the US embassy for the next day.
Today the hotel emailed us confirming that the passport showed up a customs (We had it already), but what a gesture!!
I am so ready to write a glowing reco to the manager there. Wow.
Also, compared to the Park Hyatt and the Hazelton, the prices for the suite were excellent! -

Stayed at the InterContinental Yorkville with two other friends and it could not of been a better stay. We arrived very late in the night due to weather issues and the staff had everything ready for us. They were very friendly and professional and really knew the city very well.
The room was huge, but so was the bathroom. The shower also had the best water pressure I've ever had at a hotel. The windows looked right into the Royal Ontario Museum and the University of Toronto.
There is a great pool, workout room, and sauna on the top floor which had a great view of the CN Tower and Skyline at night. There is a Tim Hortons right next door for a cheaper breakfast alternative.
The room was always made up very cleanly and the staff eager to help. Would stay here again for sure. -

Ok, to start off, the other two reviews for this hotel are actually for the Intercontinental on Front Street (located by the CN Tower), so I'm technically the first to review THIS specific hotel...silly tourists.
I booked my reservations through Hotwire, and if you're booking a hotel through Hotwire (in Toronto) and get a listing for a 4 1/2 star hotel, there is only one in this city. If you don't know what I'm driving at here, please go in the corner and fall on a dull sword. ;-)
This hotel is located just west of Avenue Rd., on the north side of Bloor. It's directly across the street from the Royal Ontario Museum.
The rooms are very nice, the staff is very friendly and professional, and the hotel is located within walking distance of Yorkville and all the shopping you could want.
The hotel bar is a vodka bar called Proof. It is pricey, but very nice and not so busy that I couldn't sit in there with my daughter and have a few drinks after long days at the museum or about town. The food was good, and also cleverly disguised. For example, there were BarBQ Chicken Drummettes (5) for $15 and a Trio of Mini-Burgers (Chicken, Lamb & Beef) for $18. I joked as I ordered them that I've never paid $33 for a burger and wings, but hey, after three martinis, I didn't feel like walking to McDonalds!
I would most definitely recommend this hotel...especially if booking through Hotwire which doesn't allow you to book by hotel name, but then there's always that 4 1/2 Star thing. -

I wouldn't call it uber-luxury, but it's a very decent, servicable business traveller hotel located in downtown TO. Meaning it's kewl if you're there on business or to attend an event in Rogers Centre, but kinda blah if you're in TO for fun.
I couldn't find the elevators up to the rooms, they are hidden behind a wall. My room had a gorgeous view of the lake and the CN tower. Service was impeccably polite, and all the staff was helpful, except for the fact that they (a) forgot a mid-afternoon wake-up [nap] call and (b) they bang on the door to make beds/turndown at inopportune moments.
hmmmm, maybe that was their version of the wake-up call? -

I only spent one night here, but it was quite pleasant!
We booked on Priceline and were happily surprised to find that our room had been upgraded for free due to lack of availability. The staff was generally helpful, especially for a man that helped us map out some places to see during our stay. The lobby area is unexpectedly dark, with black walls, but I can't say it didn't look cool! Definitely not a traditional mirrored, chandeliered, floral-patterned carpet hotel--they have the sleek & modern look down pat.
As with other city hotels, you have to pay extra for a place to park. They charged $22/day for valet service with in and out privileges, but we parked it in a random lot for $16.
One cool bonus feature is that the CN tower is practically in the backyard of this hotel. Yes, if hotels had backyards, this one would be dominated by the tallest free-standing structure in North America (oh god, I sound like a travel brochure).
All in all, I'd say that the experience was a fine introduction to the Intercontinental hotel chain. I'd definitely stay there again! -

Excellent location and very pleasant staff. Lobby is worn and someone has a very heavy hand with the air freshener, which always makes one wonder. Room was spacious with large flat screen TV. I could not get the temperature below 23, which I found too warm, and I could not figure out the coffee machine, but otherwise all fine. No terry robes. Overall it was good value for $200.

I am a frequent traveler who stays quite often at the Holiday Inn & Intercontinental chain. The Intercontinental on Bloor is a decent hotel to stay at but by no means the best Intercontinental that I have stayed at. Call me a snob but its now 2010 and the hotel still hasn't upgraded to flat screen TV's? On this occasion I stayed at what was supposed to be an "upgraded" room but I think that meant that I had a sofa in the room. Apart from there were no other bells & whistles. The bathroom was nice and modern but there were only 2 towels and one of them was a shade of gray (it was supposed to be white). It had also not been given a thorough cleaning. That being said the room was only $145 US per night which is only just a little bit more than the Holiday Inn 2 blocks away which I stayed at last month (that had flat screen TV's). Overall 3 out of 5.

Beautiful hotel. Convenient location for shopping in the Yorkville area and I had an incredible, close up view of the ROM. Great service, helpful staff, spotless room, and comfortable bed. I've stayed twice and will return!
