Woo hoo! 300th review! (And 100th "First to Review" to boot.) This deserves a story and a photo.
Being a new Vancouverite I was a little shocked to discover that I had to get my marriage license from an insurance place. Before moving to the land of marriage equality, my wife and I had gone to the local government office in our former city in California to ask for a marriage license and were, of course, denied (this was before same-sex marriage was legally recognized in California). We were kind of hoping to have a reparative experience at some nice government office in Vancouver. No such luck.
We noticed that one of the insurance offices listed on the Vital Statistics web page was at our favourite store, London Drugs. We called up a couple of friends to tell them that we were heading down to pick up our license. They volunteered to come along so that it would feel more festive than just running in for cat litter, toothpaste and a marriage license.
So here we came, four women, a digital camera, and a professional size video camera. The man at the counter was really sweet and tolerated our overly enthusiastic posse that wanted to document the momentous occasion. Given the last time we'd requested a marriage license in our home country, we'd been shot down, his professionalism and courtesy to us was greatly appreciated! He even took a picture of the four of us when it was all said and done.
