Okay seriously... how much time have I spent on 17th Ave?!? Years? Decades? A quarter of a century?
And still, it wasn't until yesterday that I had ever stepped foot inside Indo-Designer Rugs. One question: WHHHYYY?!?!?
What a cool store! I mean, don't get me wrong, it's not like I"m a rug collector or anything, but I can definitely appreciate a beautiful rug. And considering this place carries Nepalese rugs, Indian rugs, silk rugs, Persian rugs, Afghanee rugs, and the list goes on and on, even an amateur rug observer can see that this place is where it's at. Plus, as if that wasn't enough, they also carry artifacts, statues, room dividers, showpieces and interior decorations. This place is absolutely amazing. And it's HUUUUUGE. From the outside, yeah, it looks pretty big, but you walk in, and it goes back as far as the eye can see! It's amaaazing!
I will however warn you ahead of time: It costs big money to have things like what they carry shipped to Canada. So yes, everything is pretty highly priced. But keep in mind that artifacts, showpieces and designer rugs are always pricey. And hey, they do have a very thorough clearance section, so if you're on the 'spend-less' regiment, then you can definitely peruse this section and the chances of you seeing something you like are very high.
Indo-Designer Rugs makes me wish I had a big mansion to put all these amazing things in. Well, for now, I'll just have to stick to going there to look, but mark my words, as soon as I get my very first luxurious crib, It will be completely furnished courtesy of Indo-Designer Rugs. Lookin' forward to it! -

Feeling plush and luxurious, I decided to check out this carpet store on 17th Ave. The window display is always enticing here and the large grandiose interior does not let you down either.
I was immediately welcomed by a very polite man named Mike who is from Iran and who definitely knows everything there is to know about carpets.
He said that most of the carpets here were from Pakistan, Indian, Afghanistan and Persia. Every carpet in the store is hand-woven, there is not one machine made carpet in the whole store.
I am a huge fan of Kalim carpets and Mike showed me a great selection from India. The usual colors of the Kulim are earth tones; mustards, smoky reds, browns and cranberry. This is a more simple carpet and usually with geometric designs, these ranged anywhere from $100 to $200 for a 3 by 3 foot carpet to 3 by 8 foot runner. This is an amazing price considering these are all imported, hand woven and 100% wool.
Then he showed me the carpets I know my mother would love; 3 by 3 meters of hand woven silk weaves, amazing, floral designs, elegant and so well made, these start at well over 2000 dollars.
There is a 50% sale going on as we speak that brings the sale well into January. And the store is also tastefully filled with beautiful Indian furniture with antique architectural pieces and hand carved floral reliefs and designs. Gorgeous.
The store must be well over 6000 square feet and everything is so elegantly and well arranged that I am sure you won't have problems finding a carpet that could pimp up your home in here.
