Do I love this place or what!!! The best collection of spices ever and the price is just unreal!

The place is small and badly organized but trust me you won't regret spending time and money in this place. This is one of the very few places that I go out of my way to check out.

There was a time when I could never remember the name of this store. My friend and I used to call it "10 000 Watts of Indian Groceries" in reference to the "220 Volts" mentioned on their sign outside. I've come to be a huge fan of "10 000 Watts." I do a ton of Indian cooking at home and really appreciate their bargain prices on various lentils, more difficult-to-find spices such as mango powder, black salt, dried galangal and curry leaves.

They also carry a selection of Indian body care products such as the fun Ayurvedic Vicco toothpaste, as well as various soaps and hair treatments. It's certainly worth checking out their wide array of boxed spice mixtures-- they seem to have one for every possible type of dish you'd want to create-- as well as their delicious spicy snack mixes. Indian Groceries is an awesome store to browse even if you never intend to cook an Indian meal. They seem to be open reasonably late too, to serve all your 220 Volt needs.

Considering the slim pickings for Indian food in Halifax, your best bet is to make it yourself at home.

I always make a point of going there once a month to stock up on supplies! They have the beat mango pickle you can buy in this city, and it's in a big jar :)

If you love Indian food and love to cook, this is a must go if you haven't been there before.

I started learning how to cook traditional vegetarian Indian food when I dated someone who grew up in Bombay/Mumbai. The relationship is long over now, but I still love the curries, stir fries, home made yogurt and paneer.  I drive down to Halifax from Truro just to shop at this place sometimes.

Let's be honest, it's a little hole-in-the-wall, but it has fantastic food, spices, and Indian-fast-food items.

I dragged my mother in with me one day and she stood in the middle of the store like a lil lost sheep, so it helps if you have someone who knows a bit about Indian food or you might feel overwhelmed. Don't let that stop you, though. It just adds to the fun!  I've unwittingly brought the staff great entertainment in my ignorance several times.

(Somehow that's a recurring theme in my life anyway!)

I heart this little local business.

I love the Indian Grocery! You can get such great spices along with kitchen staples for low prices.

Last time I popped in, I picked up lentils along with an assortment of spices, from cardamom pods to some great chana masala mix. Oh, and they have fantastic frozen naan and paratha, as well as really great veggie samosas! Ever now and then I also like to treat myself to a glass bottle of orange Fanta - sweet bliss!

You can rent movies and I believe they sell Indian music CDs as well. They also offer an array of authentic Indian desserts along with everyday convenience store wares, like toilet paper and newspapers.

This is a really great resource to have in Halifax. It's nice to be able to shop at a specialty store centrally located with winning prices to boot. I recommend being brave and buying spices even if you haven't used them before. You may be pleasantly surprised by some of the tasty flavors you come up with in the kitchen!

My husband loves it for the Indian desserts...which are way too sweet for me. I love it for everything else - spices, rices, lentils (at least a half a dozen varieties) and other dried beans, frozen parathas - the best and quickest Indian snack ever, nan bread and more,

And lined up like solders are jars and jars of pickles, curries, sauces - all authentic Indian brands. Not to mention poppadoms and candies in case you can't decide between sweet or savory.

It's the perfect place to find anything East Asian.

Yay for Indian groceries!  I can find many things here to cook any number of Indian dishes.  Great selection of grains, lentils, and spices.  The people behind the counter are always friendly and helpful, and I am so glad it's just around the corner so I can pop in.
