Buffets, generally, aren't going to offer you the best of culinary experiences, because the idea is to produce relatively low cost food for the masses and try to keep up. So I went with no unreasonable expectations.
Our advantage is we got there early, because once it started getting busy they can't keep up with demand for their naan (which is very, very good). There was a good selection of items - about five different mains, and of course ample basmati rice. Not overwhelming with selection, but that's quite reasonable. I wasn't expecting a Mandarin style buffet with 300 items.
Only a couple of people were working, didn't really see much of them at all, except when they brought out some water and when we paid.
So, could you get better Indian food elsewhere? Probably. Does Indian Buffet Palace put out a decent spread for a good price? Yes. Will I go back? Yeah, for sure. It's close to my office and a good option. -

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG! An all you can eat Indian buffet?!
This is how excited I was when I found out about this place.
On a trip out to Bayer's Lake on a particularly crappy weather day, my bf, brother and I were excited to find this place when we were tired, cold and hungry.
It was only okay. The vegetarian selections were minimal although I'd heard they would be vast. The lentil soup tasted like what bong water smells like. I returned a second and third time with similar experiences. I wonder if I'm just not into Indian food from whatever region of India the owners are from. I was so sad to not fall in love with this restaurant. I REALLY love Indian food!
The third time I was there, there were meaty samosas. The owners dug out some tiny frozen vegetarian samosas for me so that I could have a samosa too. The samosas weren't very good, but it was really nice of them to do that.
I want so badly for this place to be awesome. I'd try the one in Dartmouth just to be sure that it doesn't suck too. -

Was anxious to try this place with a group of friends, but was utterly disappointed with the quality of cuisine.
The food was available in the form of a buffet, yet from the get-go the food looked rather unpalatable, as the presentation needed much to be admired.
The buffet selections are kept "warm" (a term I use quite loosely) on electric skillets, and so it all tasted cold and bland by the time we returned to our seats.
The worst part though, was not the dining experience itself, but the issues which arose afterward. Out of the seven of us who dined at Indian Buffet Palace, five of us (including myself) felt absolutely terrible afterwards. Effects of the buffet foods? Wouldn't surprise me given the temperature and taste of the buffet foods.
No doubt, at under $10 a meal, this is probably the cheapest location for Indian cuisine- yet I've learned that sometimes you get what you pay for, and based on my experience here, I will not be returning any time soon -

The new Indian Buffet Palace and India Palace have renewed my faith in HRM's capacity to boast tasty ethnic restaurants on both sides of the bridge.
The two locations sit at geographical extremes, neither being centrally located, which is a shame if you find yourself perpetually sans car. Taking the bus to Bayers Lake is akin to stepping inside a stagnant sauna on wheels, complete with screaming infants and hordes of humans. Let's not forget how incompatible Bayers Lake is to being on foot, with no sidewalks creating a hazardous saunter if you find yourself travelling by two feet and a heartbeat.
Okay, transportation rant ceases hear. When you finally find yourself at this hole in the wall dining lounge, you will be greeted by friendly, yet quasi edgy employees, as it's perpetually busy. Find a table, and get a plate, because you may be competing for heaping scoops. If you arrive a little after the buffet opens, it can be hard to stay on top of getting the dishes you crave. My input: get there right at opening so the trays are fresh and heaping.
The veggie offerings were relatively slim when I visited, and the pakoras were few and far between. The naan was a hot commodity as well, so it was challenging to secure a piece before the platter was barren.
There was a sweet kid helping out, who was the best part of the customer service experience. Her dad said she loved being there, and from the smile on her face, it was evident she was happy to greet people and direct them to a table.
I look forward to my next visit, as I'm sure they've ironed out some of the kinks of being a new Halifax destination. Four starts allotted for simply existing and as well, offering pretty tasty food! -

If you like all you can eat buffets, then you will definitely want to try Indian Buffet. It's in a tiny strip mall off Chain Lake Drive and just before Kids R Kids.
The place is small - 5 or 6 booths and lunch time is pretty busy. Just warning you, that's all.
The dishes change, but the menu remains the same - 3 vegetarian, 2 meat, 2 soups and Naan bread (not sure if it's made on site, but it's fresh and delicious). You can go back as many times as you like, although truthfully, I could barely make it through one plateful. And all for $9.99.
The owner/waiter was most pleasant and his wife was busy refilling each of the warming dishes as needed. It's a very home-style affair and quite tasty for the price. That said, there wasn't very much chicken in the chicken biryani (usually my favorite Indian dish) and the flavor of each dish seemed very similar to the one beside it.
