Review from Noah K.

I had a collision with a train of shopping carts at Home Depot, scatching my headlight and damaging all three of the right side body panels of my Volvo C30.
Upon meeting Jim it was apparent that he was someone who cared, and throughout our dealings he was competent and professional, taking the time to explain all of the options, and called/emailed to keep me apprised.
Besides the regular body work, he polished out the headlight cover so it wouldn't need to be replaced, and brought in a dentless repair expert which eliminated the need to fill/pain one of the dents.
The end result was first rate; you'd never know anything had happened.
I thought the cost was very reasonable; it was about the same as Magnussen a block away but included a couple of damaged areas I hadn't noticed the first time and weren't included in Magnussen's estimate. -

This review is to offer our sincere appreciation to the team at Independence Auto Body for the great job they did restoring the bodywork and paint on our vintage 1969 VW. My wife is the original owner of this car and it has sentimental value to us because it is how we met 30 years ago.
I was referred to Independence Auto Body by a local car enthusiast. I also interviewed 2 other local body shops that were referred to me by the repair shop that was supplying our parts and rebuilding the motor in our VW. We decided to use Independence Auto Body because the owner, Jim, listened to our needs and answered our questions. He also made suggestions and offered advice; which was extremely helpful because my wife and I had never before restored a car.
Jim and the team made the experience of restoring our car a joy, not a job. We were asked pertinent questions at critical decision points (there are a lot of these when restoring a car) and we never had any surprises. They took the time to explain things we didn't understand. Also, none of our parts were misplaced, damaged, or lost during the complete disassembly and reassembly of our car during the restoration process. Plus, they did a great job of matching our car's original Diamond Blue paint color.
Independence Auto Body's attention to detail and quality of workmanship is exceptional. They kept our car clean and took great care in preparation, paint and handling the new and vintage parts that they installed. Thank you to Jim and his team for their honesty, integrity, and for the outstanding job they did restoring our classic Beetle to better-than-new condition. -

Just got my front bumper replaced there. I was paying out of pocket, so I was looking around for a while. Independence was recommended to me by a friend (which per Jim is how they get their customers, they don't have any huge signs or anything).
They did a great job on the car, made it ready sooner than it was supposed to be (He said. 2-3 days after he get parts from dealer, so estimate was 5 days, got the car on Friday afternoon: 3.5 days), for cheaper (apparently some part was not needed, so he didn't charge me for that).
Going to a body shop is as much fun as going to a dentist, you don't know how much pain or cost it would cause! But working with these guys, makes is as easy and as painless as it gets. The main thing for me, was the feeling that, unlike many of other body shops that try to charge as much as they could, they are actually doing an honest job and actually do care about their customers. -

I recently was rear ended driving home on the 101 on a Friday evening. Such a lovely way to start your weekend, no? I was referred to this auto body shop by Meissner's in Palo Alto (I had good experiences with them before). I've never had such an easy and (dare i say) pleasant experience.
I was assisted by Jim from start to finish. He was honest, caring, and sincere. He helped get my car done as quickly as possible, letting me know about the progress each step of the way. I mentioned when I dropped it off that I was interested in getting an oil change while I was there. He took care of it...at no charge! Unbelievable!
When I picked up my car it looked brand new (they had washed it) and all of my paperwork was ready and neat as could be. I can't even tell you how shocked and awed I was at this whole experience. I will forever recommend this place and always use it for any necessary fixes in the future (knock on wood). -

my car was merged into by a semi on the weekend, so i took my car in for an estimate on monday after reading other positive reviews on yelp. the estimate was fair and lower than the next place i visited, but still more than my insurance valued my car... that's what happens when you dance with semis...
however, the car (2002 Subaru Forester) was still drivable, but the rear wheel well had been crushed in, and would occasionally rub against the tire when the suspension compressed, and i needed to fix that for an upcoming roadtrip.
at first blush, the diagnosis was that i would need a frame bender, and it would be occupied until wednesday.
came in wednesday, but the frame bender was still occupied. Jim thought we might try the slide hammer to pull it out, and after the mechanic gave it a few good hits, it started looking great, and ended up solving my problem entirely.
i asked how much for the service, and he told me no charge. i then tried to offer a tip, but he politely declined... fantastic service here, my day was saved. -

Independence Auto Body is in a class by itself. Three years ago, Jim and team did extensive work on our Camry when we were rear-ended on the freeway. Last week, I returned when I dinged my fender pretty badly in a parking garage. My husband has also used Jim for work on his Jetta.
In EVERY instance, Jim has been knowledgeable, genuine and responsive. He inspires the utmost trust and confidence. He takes the time to thoroughly explain the different options and the pros and cons of each. I also appreciate how he mindful he is of budget concerns and always points out alternatives that might save a few $s. And...the results speak for themselves. He does beautiful work!! (He's hands on, too. He gets in there with his employees and does the work!)
While we hope we won't have a need to use his services again soon, I would go back to Independence in a heartbeat. -

Jim and Independence were recommended to me by a friend and I'm extremely happy with the work he did. I was in an accident where the other driver was at fault and Jim did a fantastic job on the repair (I drive an '08 luxury SUV, and it looks as good as new). He also was great at communication and completing the work in a timely manner. Hopefully I won't need Jim's services again, but in the event I do, I would use Independence again without hesitation.

I highly recommend this tiny, friendly shop, especially to anyone in Palo Alto or Mountain View (it helps that I can walk to it in a pinch). I've had work done on both a Honda and BMW. The new paint on the plastic bumper covers matches the rest of the cars better than the factory original. The rates are insurance industry standard, and I can speak from experience that they have a good working relationship with State Farm, at least.

I have used Jim at Independence for several cars - in EVERY case he was very professional, fair priced, and fast. He knows how to deal with insurance companies, shows you as much of the paperwork/parts that you want to see, and on two occasions went WAY above and beyond the normal call of duty! The first time was when our babysitter scraped the entire side of our car - Jim did a great job repairing it but decided he didn't like the way the new paint looked against the more oxidized paint on the other side - so he painted the entire car! The second time was when the convertible car I had in for body repair also needed a new roof - Jim is not in the upholstery business but he took care of getting a replacement roof put on for me! He probably only does that for repeat customers (we've had a string of bad luck with cars...) but it was such a relief to me to have it all taken care of! I trust Jim and highly recommend him to anyone needing auto body work!
