The first time I came here was when I started to learn how to snowboard. This is a quick and cheap place to rent out a Burton starter board with bindings and Burton boots. Although it's Burton, these are beginner rentals so expect rental quality stuff - boards are chipped and dry, with no signs of it being waxed for ages. Also, the boots are lace-ups (Have a friend help you lace them up tight and beware of wet, icy conditions because the laces can freeze up). However, it's safe if you use it properly and check that everything's in place. The people renting the boards are fairly knowledgeable, so they give you the correct sized gear and place your bindings in a good stance. But just remember that your boots should fit snug and there should be a left and right! (Unlike one time were we were given 2 right boots! But we were given a free rental due to the mix up).

They're not super strict on returns. Generally you can rent it the day before and return it the morning after. That way you don't have to hurry to return the gear after a long day of shredding.

In the end, a decent place to rent your stuff without being double-charged in rental prices up on the slopes. Although, I'm happy I have my own gear now so I don't have to worry about their deposit fee (credit card required) in case you ruin or lose their board!

Note: Besides rentals, they carry a decent selection of current season gear/equipment (Badminton and Snowboarding generally) and Adidas clothing. Occasionally they'll have sales on selected items (20-40% off).

The woman who works in this store creeps me out!!

After entering the store, a woman approached me and told me what was on sale in the store.  I said thank you and continue shopping.  As I browsed around, I couldn't help but to feel like the woman was following me.  Every where I walked, there she was behind me stalking me.  Everything I touched something she would tell me how nice or if it was on sale or not.

At a time I even tried to lose her by taking laps around the store and squeezing through racks, but boy was she persistent!!  It almost felt like a scene out of "Don't Be a Menace to South Central while drinking your Juice in the Hood" (http://www.youtube.com...)

No joke, always about 4 meters away at all times, "HURRY UP AND BUY!!!"

When it was still the "Fashion Warehouse" a few years ago, this place was a 1-2 star worthy place at best.  The "sporty" clothes were severely outdated and the layout of the store was much like the Aberdeen Centre at the time - a work in progress.

Fast forward a few years, Aberdeen is now thriving and seems to be complete - which includes Impulse, which looks like it has gone through a semi-make over itself.  The store is more of a "wide open spaces" layout and has began selling brands that are sporty and functional.

Northface is still way too expensive here and the Columbia wear needs some variety.  There was some interesting shirts and jackets from Puma but a lacking Nike inventory.  Service was virtually non-existent - most of the employees were huddled up and giggling while people aimlessly roamed the store.

One thing I do appreciate about Impulse is they do repairs for snowboarding equipment and they have a machine in the back for restringing tennis rackets.  The fees / repair prices on their charge don't seem bad.  If I never end up buying anything form here (which is likely), I at least have a place to to fix my gear.
