The space that is the Imperial probably started life as a storage room of Barrymoore's and its still easy to miss tucked into a long, narrow corridor.Try and get the single window seat, which in warm weather is usually opened on to the street. They don't take reservations for brunch, so it's up to chance.
Speaking of brunch, that's the meal I've attended most. Despite only have 3 options on the menu, the fact that one is vegan means that brunch at the Imperial is 33.33% vegan! And equally vegetarian! Rejoice! The options when I went were vegan pancakes, vegetarian fritatta or a standard breakfast meat + eggs. All options come with a selection of toast and grilled vegetables and they serve locally roasted Ideal coffee. Not only is soy milk available, but a no extra charge, which is sadly not as common as I'd like, even in places that make a point of marketing to those trying to source their food ethically. Clearly a topic I can speak to at length and with no obvious bias or frustration.
I've only been once for dinner and I think the menu has changed more than once since then. Sadly, it has never been 33.33% vegan and those options tend to be a bit sparse, which is shame given it is otherwise creative and evolving.
Also present are a wide selection of B movie posters on the walls and Beau's beer on tap, though I am awarding my final bonus points on the patient and kind staff. Whether its occupying a table at length on a Friday night without ordering while waiting for tardy friends, or racing others to hover over the window seat before its fully vacated, the staff have never been less than bemused and tolerant with us. -

Since it opened a few years ago, the Imperial has become a regular Centretown hangout. Familiar faces - even if you don't know their names - are at almost every table whether you are wandering in for a pint of Beau's or for weekend brunch, and their single window-side table provides the best view of always entertaining Bank St. pedestrian traffic.
The Balderson Burger is a consistently good staple and on weekends, whichever you choose of the meat, veggie or vegan brunch options (there are just 3!) will likely be delicious. Special brunch treats include roasted tomato with every plate and excellent coffee (with bottomless refills). Servings are reasonable - not too small, and definitely not huge. -

I wasn't wowed by my first visit but this place certainly has potential.
The Imperial is a cozy whole-in-the-wall on Bank Street with a great vibe and friendly service. The beer list is limited but well chosen. The wine list is adequate but they allow you to bring your own bottle for a $15 corkage fee. For this, the Imperial gets MAJOR brownie points.
The menu offers mostly a variety of pizzas (including gluten free options) and sandwiches along with a few other mains dishes. We tried the bacon poutine as a starter and the duck confit with blueberries and guacamole sandwich and pulled pork sandwich as mains. The poutine and pulled pork sandwich were very tasty. The combination of guacamole and duck confit didn't work for me so next time I will ask to hold the guac.
Overall, we had a good experience and I will give this place another shot in the near future.
