I second everything Jimi S. wrote, right down to the bias (I, too am an impatient student)
ITC is a wonderful place to discover yourself as a performer, comedian, public speaker, and/or person. The instructors are warm, helpful people and you get the feeling that everyone in the company is rooting for you.
All of the performances happen at Comedy Bar now, which is great because it's like a clubhouse outside of class - a place where you run into the people you maybe took an intro class with and thought you'd never see again; a place where instructors, students, and neighborhood regulars alike enjoy a cheap pint and a laugh.
ITC is great and with free Improv 101 classes, what do you have to lose? Go now. Seriously.

If you're looking to improve your ability to speak in front of crowds - If the writer in you is interested in what makes a comedy scene tick - If you're an actor looking to add some freedom and joy back in to your playing - If you're an improvisor and you want to learn the long form "Harold" based on the teachings of Del Close - AND you want to meet a ton of new, fun and interesting  people - Impatient Theatre is the place to be.  Check it out!  You'll be glad you did!!

I just finished the intensive improv 101 and will say that it is the best free thing on offer in Toronto!  It would be worth it even if I paid for it.  We had 18 hours of training that taught us various skills, all in an accepting positive environment.  Whether I use this for developing more of the drama side of me or whether I use this new found knowledge for everyday interpersonal, I have developed some great new useful skills.

So I shall qualify this review at the beginning by saying that I perform for the Impatient Theatre Company at their current haunt called The Savannah Room on College and Spadina.  Now, I will say no more about the teams that perform than at their best, they do some of the most innovative, courageous, and witty improvisation that you can find in the city.  Go see for yourself and you can write a less biased review.  However, I do think that I am in the same position as anyone else to comment on the schooling aspect of ITC, as the only other way to learn more about them is to learn from them by training with them.   I have taken classes there and virtually all instructors there have gone through schooling at the ITC as well as with a host of other improv companies, festivals, and well known teachers the world over.  They are also young, vibrant and working players that do improv almost on a daily basis.  The classes are VERY VERY affordable, especially the first level.  ITC is also the only school in the city that teaches "longform Harold", a form of improv,  as the focus of their education.  The studio for teaching is very west at Roncessvalles and Queen, which could be a haul for some people, but, hey, if you are really interested then it's nuisance will just fade away.  So if you are interested in improvisation, come out to the Savannah Room and check out classes at the above web address and JUDGE FOR YOURSELF.

Specialties

The Impatient Theatre Co. offers improv classes and shows in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Our unique approach to teaching improv is unlike that of any other training centre in the city.

History

Established in 2001

Impatient Theatre Co. began as an ensemble of 12 improvisers. In October 2001, the company began producing the Toronto Cage Match and introduced Toronto to the Harold in its weekly show.

In 2002, the ensemble show switched to performing a no holds barred, "punk-rock improv" version of the Armando. On November 1, 2005, the ITC opened the doors to its first training centre. Impatient spent two years at this studio, building the company into Canada's fastest growing training centre.

After two years, the company's growth led to the move to its current home at Queen Street W. We now have a number of teams, most of whom have completed the ITC training program.

Since 2002, the company has presented the Toronto Improv Festival every August. The festival has featured cast members of MADtv, Saturday Night Live, 30 Rock, Cloverfield, Carpoolers, Mean Girls, Waiting for Guffman, Best In Show and many more.

Meet the Business Owner: Kevin R.

Kevin is the founder and artistic director of the Impatient Theatre Co. He has been a featured instructor at the Chicago Improv Festival and North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival.

His highly effective teaching style comes from his incredibly diverse training. He has studied with masters of the craft from all across North America: Toronto, Chicago and Los Angeles including such luminaries as Alan Arkin and Micheal Gellman (Second City), Mick Napier and Joe Bill (Annoyance Theatre), Bob Dassie, Craig Cackowski and Noah Gregoropolis (i.O. Theatre). He puts this style to use onstage, in class and as a director/coach.

Amalgamating his various training experiences and lessons into a style that is rooted in character, relationship, truthfulness and authenticity, Kevin has developed a training program that encourages the empowerment of improvisers within the context of group improvisation.

Kevin did his post-graduate studies in professional screenwriting.
