Review from K. M. L.

I just got new glasses here, and my friend had a complete eye exam here as well. We were very impressed with the knowledge, quality, and selection that this clinic offers, and the prices were better than most of the other many places I had visited in my extensive search for the right frames. My friend learned from her exam that she did not, in fact, need new glasses, which was also very good to know. And staff were very helpful--Tim, the manager, is amazingly knowledgeable.
So I disagree with the first reviewer that there is a small selection to choose from--on the contrary, we were amazed by the amount and variety! As for the price, when compared to many other clinics/shops, I probably saved $100-$200 here...
We will definitely return when it is time to renew our prescriptions. -
Review from Roanna Z.
Image moved to this location on the south side of Hastings from across the street a while ago. I noticed it one day and what actually caught my eye, (-pardon the pun,) was the special they offer. Pay for the eye exam, 89-ish and if you can score a frame from the front window drawers, (which are of course older frames, and mostly for women,) they throw those in for free.
Naturally, the lenses are quite another matter. I got lucky and found a random, retro style frame but my lenses did cost 130 in the end and they were nothing fancy at all, just basic driving lenses. I really need the progressives, but those lenses are 289 bucks. Too dear for me right now.
One thing different for this location is that there is a 'stylist' on hand to help you pick out a frame that works for you. She's a funny bunny that one, but I rather enjoyed working with her. She is also quite knowledgeable about eyes and lenses. In the end I picked out a frame that she hadn't pointed out but when I picked up the completed pair she was there and did like my choice. *whew!* Wouldn't want to disappoint the stylist! lol.
There is one doctor on duty who does the actual exam, one optometrist to assist and a also another few 'would be' optometrists who are all very knowledgeable.
All in all this Image Optometry was not a bad choice for me. -

First things first - Dr. Toor is an awesome optometrist. Takes the time to explain what he's doing and by far the most comprehensive eye exam I've had. He did a retina exam, glaucoma test and had me do a visual field test.
You might think that's pretty standard - but it was quite the difference from my old-school Chinatown optometrist, which was: "Sit down - read the letters. Number 1 or 2? Number 2 or 3? Okay - here's your prescription, see you in a few years. NEXT!"
I booked an appointment and I was in the examination chair in 5 minutes of arriving. It was kinda of weird seeing the neon sign out front and all the eyewear in the shop - I remember this place when it was a pizza joint. Oh well, at least it's more reputable than the optician/cake shop across the street. But I guess the scent of baked good can only enhance the eye exam experience.
You'll also notice all the sports gear in the shop - seems like the Image Optometry chain sells itself on being the optometrists for the Canucks, Lions and Giants. And Dr. Toor was introduced to me as the optometrist for the Canucks training camp. I'm sure he's a good doctor - but associating yourself with perpetual losers? Meh.
But that's not the reason for the low rating - the big ad for this place is that the eye exam and a pair of frames and lenses are included for $89.95. Great deal, right?
WRONG - you have to pick their clearance lenses. When I asked to see the 'freebie' frames, all I saw were girl's frames. I don't mean 'girl's' in an offensive way - I mean 'girl's' in a 'everything-is-pink/lilac-and-fitted-for-prepubsce nt-girl's' way. Oh - you want UV/anti-glare? That's more. You want hi-index lenses so you aren't wearing Coke bottle glasses? That's a LOT more. With all the 'extras' tacked on with a half-decent frame - the price range was the exact same as if I walked into any random optical store with everything included. So it's not really a discount. Finally, even when looking at the non-clearance frames - the selection was horrible.
The salesmen were pretty pushy and insisted they could make frames fit by bending the arms and that half-rims would work for my offset prescription. Unless he's conquered the laws of thermodynamics, I doubt they are telling the truth. The worst part is that they do their sales pitch while you're in the waiting area waiting for the dilation eye drops to kick in and you're half blind. You're captive. You know that chatty guy that wants to start a conversation with you when you're both at a urinal? They were THAT GUY.
I guess I could have just insisted they give me my 'free' pair of Coke bottle, ill-fitting and glaring glasses as a backup pair - but I didn't want to deal with their sales department anymore and left immediately after my eye exam.
If you're coming here, Dr. Toor is great and I will go back to him again. Just don't expect to walk out with an eye exam and decent glasses for $90.Listed in: Shots Fired, East Van Life, Get Your Grown Man On

I don't visit the Optometrist much, but I certainly had a good experience here. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The examination was very quick (not rushed) and smooth. Dr. Mckinnon was very nice and and answered any questions I might have. I didn't feel rushed at all.
The reason I did not give this place a higher rating is because the store is really small and lacking selections of nicer frames. They have a very limit selection of frames and I guess it is to cater to the locals there. The nice thing is that you can take your prescription to another Image Optometry Clinic to get the discount on frames.
Good place to get an eye exam, not so good for frames :(
